My first experience with GT was when I first moved to Arizona in 1998. We had to move into an apartment while we were waiting for our house to be built, and there was a Wal-Mart shopping center nearby that had other businesses. One of them was a video rental place that happened to have a little area where you could try out games before you rented them.

One day I saw GT on the shelf so I tried it out there and liked what I saw, so I rented it for a few days. The day after I took it back I convinced my mom to buy it for me and the rest is history. :)

I would have been... 13 years old.

My first time with GT was when my brother let me play GT2: Endurance race on Seattle Circuit, Beetle Cup Car, 40 laps, going for a pit stop every 10 laps on supersoft, laughing about the occasional Viper-stuck in the hairpin, winning by 3 laps.
I wonder why Seattle Circuit is not in GT5...

The GT5 time trial demo that came out in 2009(?) At the time I was deeply addicted to Motorstorm Pacific Rift, and half the people on my friends list were excited about the upcoming GT5. I tried the demo, slid all over the place and said "man there's no way I'll ever get into this game..." :D

This one will blow you away
i Dont remember =d
I am 16 so you do the math, my parents had tons of cash back then so they bought the PlayStation and a bunch of games including Granturismo and twisted metal, to this day im addicted to both and if Spyro was still around i would be to!

It was '97 and had just did my first motor swap, GSR 1.8L in a Captiva blue Si. My Honda mechanic friend was also into road racing Honda's. He shows me an Auto Week or a Motortrend magazine and in a small little picture was a CTR going over a racing curb. I went out to find a used PS1 and picked one up at a pawn shop. Unfortunately i was moving to a rural area and didnt know if i was going to be able to get on release day.

Long story short, at that time the JDM DC2 Integra was the shiz. I think I beat 3/4 of the game with that car...black...good times. :)

PS2 comes out. Only game I had on PS1, same with the PS2 and 3.

I've rented games but GT are the only ones purchased.

GT1, I was 5 years old going through all the dealerships when I came across the Viper. I've been in love ever since.

GT1 on PS1, I remember how blown away we were by the graphics and the ability to mess around with the cars. Been playing ever since.

This, I walked into the local game spot at the time and a Prelude Si caming flying around the corner on the screen. I immediately bought the game and called into work the following morning. lol
I have been playing it since then.

Post up your first experience with this wonderful series, mine personally was at my uncles with gt4 and I did a rally but was totally terrible, but I was 6 at the time. What have you done lately to recreate this experience, have you been for a drive on THAT track in THAT car?

Me too,but I started playing gt3 when I was around 4-5!still love gt3's ost today...

Yep GT1 good times good times... Yeah i have played and beaten every GT... Enjoyed every minute... I also love the vipers my favorite is the 1998 GTS COUPE... great car

GT1, 98 I think, and never stopped playing the serie. My favourite GT1 car was the TVR cerbera Limited edition. Best car in GT1 in my opinion.

read about it in playstation magazine got it on release (gt1 ps1)

biggest memory mauve and green tvr's (with rm back when you could rm any car ingame) going toe to toe for hours on end
had one barrel roll dukes of hazard style over the top of me and land on its wheels last corner trial mountain
i still play my same mate tho now its online so no walking home at early hours any more

i was 27 years old and im still putting in the laps :)

you don't stop playing when you get old you get old when you stop playing. that's what i tell the wife

Aghhhhh, memories!
It first started when I was 5, Dad bought me a PS2 along with 5 games, one being GT3. Didn't really get it but I remember farming the Super Speedway race in my bone stock MX5! Good times!
Got GT Concept because of a hotel we used to stay in, they had GT2 in the hotel rooms and a GT Concept booth in the main lobby; I remember facing some 20 year old with loads of people watching us, and I won! :D Also, Toyota pod race!
Got GT4:P, remember dragging my mum to GAME to buy it, only with the shop being closed. :troll:
Bought GT4, remember stepping on the case and cracking it down the side. :( Luckily it still open and closed and I still have the case to this day!
GT5:P, didn't have PSN at first, then about 2 months before I stopped playing it we got WiFi so I got PSN and had a blast, even with the slow loading times.
And here we are, still a GT fan to this day.
It's amazing how many memories I have involving GT, not just in-game but involving life too. Jeez.

Borrowing my friend's memory card and then proceeding to transfer all of his cars onto my garage in GT3. His reaction was priceless when we did 2-Player battles and we both had the same exact cars every time! :sly:👍

That or managing to gold all licenses from B to IA in GT2, bronzing Super License, then going and buying a useless Fiat 500. Had to start a new game because I couldn't win a damn race with that car, and if I sold it, I wouldn't have enough to buy even a mediocre car!

Gran Turismo 1 - In 2000, my uncle let me play the game on his 50+" rear projection tv.
Later that year, he gave me the ps1 and GT1 as a Christmas present, and I was hooked.
Of course, I sucked. I was 5 years old .

I got GT2 in 2002.

In December 2010 I played a GT5 Demo at HMV, and was my first experience with GT5 that left me speechless.

I got a PS2 with GT3 and GT4 in 2011. I'm trying to grab a job, just to get a PS3, GT5, and F1 2011.

Gran Turismo 2 - I was five years when I first started playing. My cousin had a PS1 and she would always invite me over to do races. Her dad pretty much owned every car in the game, so we had a wide range to choose from. We did some crazy stuff like Mini vs Speed 12, 500 vs Skyline, Etc. Me and here grew up with Gran Turismo.

My first GT was when I first got my PS2... got the game with a PS2 bundle at Toys R Us.
We plugged it in and our first car was the crappy miata... even though the car sucked, we were hooked. Once we got into better cars we tried out the endurance races. We ended up getting lucky with one of the F1 cars... the FO90/S I think... played the hell out of that until GT4 came out

I remember playing my first gt game at my cousins house. I can't remember if it was 1 or 2 but I was amazed. I come from a Ninetendo background and I had my snes at the time with crappy racing games. I must have been at his house everyday for a month playing with him. I finally got a ps2 and grabbed gt3 when it came out, I was so happy. Even my dad loved me playing it, he said it teaches about cars while you have fun with it (he's a mechanic). I went on to get gt4, which I loved, especially for the event screen (the map).

My first experience was with GT5! I was looking for NASCAR games and noticed something about a weird named game with NASCAR in it. I saw the video on the PS store where Kaz was at Texas and thought they would have all drivers and tracks... Kept asking my parents for it (11 at the time) and finally for Chrismas Santa left a copy for me. Well for the first 3 or 4 months I use the recommended Jeff Gordon car to race online, then traded my Corvette ZR1 RM for a Tony Stewart NASCAR. At first I had absolutely no idea what the heck this game was, now after a year and a half I have at least 35 days playing time on the game I Love it,but really needs a Kevin Harvick NASCAR! :D
Sorry if I got a little off topic..

GT2!!!! as soon as i started playing it i was hooked... just everything about it was amazing the cars and the tracks... best part about it was during this time my dad got his lotus Elise S1 160 special edition and when i found out the Elise was in the game that was the only car i would drive lol i was around 6 or 7 years old when i got that game i can never forget it.

GT1 on PS1, way back in July 1998. I was slightly half of my current age, and it was a birthday present (my racing game stable at the time consisting of the first and third NFS). I remember spending a solid 30 minutes trying to pass the first license test with the old Demio GL-X starting and stopping, annoyed that my dad had managed silver his first try. Oh, how the tables have changed :D

I bought a white MA70 Supra, and settled for awful finishes in the Sunday cup for a few (probably dozens of) rounds, until I could afford a Viper GTS (my bedroom poster car of the time). I've since made sure to have the former in my garage as soon as possible in every game; the latter, it's a bit harder, since the classic blue and white stripes is gone.

It's a bit scary to think the series has been a constant in my life for over half the time I've been around, and I've even met a few dozen people in real life because of it!

Started playing GT at around 5 or 6 years old had the lot then stopped for many years seen GT5 advertisement on tv after a 5 minute think ... i got up went out and wax £400 on a ps3 never looked back

Played GT5 on a demo stool in Virgin Megastores. Then proceeded to sell my Xbox and bought GT5 and a PS3. When I first got home and booted it up, I was disappointed, but after Spec 2.0 I can't stop playing.

playing GT Concept and GT3 A:spec on my cousin's PS2 back then.

SSR11, Complex String and Laguna Seca when it was still under the sunset. Good times, good times.

Ever since the first one, it was a genre changing game and set the standard for every driving game since, I got goosebumps just watching the intro! I still love the bit where that white nsx launches off the line at start.

1999, Gran Turismo (1).

What has stuck in my mind as the first GT memories are license tests, especially some "go around circle in Mitsubishi evo" kind of test. :)

Next memories are of same kind evo on Autumn Ring mini after I bought some "hold in your lap" -type of steering wheel and got to experience some counter steering action. Got totally hooked... :)

Edit: Just realized that my avatar shows me going sideways on Autumn Ring Mini in GT5, not with Evo this time though :)

Same here. My older brother and I were amazed by the graphics. He got into the tuning aspect as he had more experience than I did at the time. Once I got the hang of the physics we would both play all day racing each others lap times and taking turns in between a couple laps when racing the computer to collect cash and win cars.
