JR98 GAMING
Since @mister dog created the top 3 7th generation games thread, I thought it would be interesting to see what people like most in the 6th console generation. You can include any PC games released within 2001-2006 and any games that were released on XBOX or the Playstation 2.

1. Gran Turismo 4
2. ToCa Race Driver 3
3. Gran Turismo 3

Honourable Mentions: Le Mans 24 Hours, ToCa Race Driver 2, Grand Theft Auto III, Need For Speed Carbon, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2, Forza Motorsport, Just Cause, Ford Racing 3, Outrun 2, Burnout 3, JUICED, Street Legal Racing Redline, rFactor, GTR2.

1. GTA San Andreas
2. Burnout Revenge
3. Gran Turismo 4

  1. Enthusia Professional Racing
  2. Metroid Prime
  3. Ace Combat Zero
Even though Ace Combat Zero doesn't have the best missions, I feel its inspiring soundtrack, well-balanced gameplay, and wide variety of aircraft make it the apex of the series. The story is also a notch above; more engaging than AC04, not as melodramatic as AC5, and not outright cheese like AC6. I haven't found another air combat game as good as this.

Metroid Prime wasn't just a great game, it had something to prove: that a first-person Metroid game wasn't the sacrilege people expected it to be. It was atmospheric and immersive, well-designed, challenging, and brought Samus Aran into 3D with flair. The next two games in the trilogy struggled to live up to the standard it set, and in Metroid Prime Trilogy form with Wiimote+Nunchuck controls, there's no contest.

Enthusia is simply the best racing game of all time. Superb physics that remain unrivaled by any console game since, a diverse collection of cars, engaging and creative street circuits plus Tsukuba and the Nordschleife, innovative gameplay, accurate sounds, exceptional attention to detail...it's a delightfully nerdy (and obtuse) game and it's no surprise it didn't survive, but it's such a shame it didn't.

Seriously? DRIV3R? Well if that's what you think, DRIV3R is among the worst for me
Driv3r had a lot of fun glitches, and some that were just plain annoying. But Driv3r was one of my first ps2 games and I played it nearly every day.

Parralel Lines was far better. I found DRIV3R as Ubi's worst game

Far Cry
Metal Gear Solid 2
Half-Life 2

Driv3r chat : For what it's worth I remember that being pretty fun as a rental at a friend's house. It lacks any of the real depth that a GTA has though.

Edit: Totally forgot about World of Warcraft. The original release was in the time frame so I guess it can bump Far Cry on my list. Not counting WoW i probably played more Counter-Strike than anything else during this period but it's original release is before 2001.

#1 GTA Vice City (easy choice)
#2 Bully
#3 Red Dead Revolver

And even though much of the game's aspects became redundant, as a fan of The Godfather movie, I really enjoyed The Godfather game.

Oh, and how can I forget the Hitman games from this era?

GT3
GTA vice city
Zone of the enders

I don't remember exactly when these games came out, but I think they are in that 2001-2006 range.

I voted GT3 and GTA because I spent an extreme amount of time playing them. I voted zone of the enders because I thought it was a brilliant game when it came out.

I thought Driv3r was the worst in the series, I much preferred the all the others.

The story was awful, had huge bugs and the shooting was crap. Main redeeming features were damage (Always been Driver's strong point) and the graphics

GT4
Ico
GTA: Vice City

I also enjoyed Driv3r, very unpolished but still found it a lot of fun. The Getaway and its sequel were good too.

Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix
Need For Speed Underground 2
Burnout Revenge

Honourable mentions go to the ToCA Race Driver series and Gran Turismo 3.

1. Nascar Racing 2003
2. Battlefield 1942
3. Need for Speed Undergroud series

Many many many hours spent on these games but its so hard to list only 3 as 2001-2006 was probably the peak of gaming for me. I could make a huge list lol

Weeeeell...

The sixth generation started in '98, technically, since Sega released the Dreamcast at the end of '98 in Japan and in early '99 in other markets. Why am I being nitpicky, though? Because my number 1 entry would not make the cut-off, otherwise :D Kinda surprising that I'm the first to point that out, especially since I never cared about the Dreamcast

1) Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.
2) Gran Turismo 4
3) WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos and WarCraft III: The Frozen Throne

My favourite era :)

Gran Turismo 4
Resident Evil 4
Pro Evo Soccer 4
Grand Theft Auto 3

I know the topic was the top 3 but i can't drop any of these all the list, literally played all these games away after their sequels came out, including the wait for GT5 i still went back to GT4 after!

The PS2 era for me personally will never be beaten in amount of quality games that came out for a single system.

1-MGS3
2-RE4
3-Burnout 3

Honorable mentions:
-The Warriors
-Def Jam Fight for NY
-Battlefront

1. GTA: Vice City.
2. Bully.
3. Gran Turismo 3.

Honourable mentions to GT4, Pro Evo 5, GTA III and NFSU 1 & 2.

1. GT4
2. GT3
3. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (GC)

Chosen based on number of hours played. There are absolutely loads of games that could be in a top three in this Gen. It was the high watermark for gaming.
