The big addition is the 2023 Porsche 911 GT3 R, finally crossing over from Forza Horizon 5. The latest evolution of Porsche’s venerable GT race car aims to continue the successful career of its predecessors.

Based on the 992 generation 911, the GT3 R features a brand new 4.2-liter flat six making 565hp before balance of performance rules. The engine has also been moved forward to improve weight distribution and make way for a new underbody rear diffuser. Other changes to the aerodynamics, engine and electronics aim to make the car better to drive for customer teams.

Wind the clock back a few decades and we arrive at the 1987 Porsche 961. This unicorn was built for the circuit specification of Group B regulations that were ultimately axed. As a result, only a single 961 was ever built.

Based on the 959, the 961 retained the advanced four-wheel drive system from the road car, but swapped out the adjustable suspension for a more simple unit for racing. The 2.9-liter, twin-turbocharged flat six was taken from the 959 street car, but ran higher turbo boost to produce 680hp. The 961 entered the 1987 Le Mans 24 Hours, where it sadly crashed and caught fire, ending the project for good.
