Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: Kart Attack

The start of a new week means a brand new set of Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races is now available, with three fresh multiplayer races to tackle over the coming seven days.

There’s a return for karts in this week’s events, as Race A takes you to Brands Hatch in the classic beginner’s racing ride.

Naturally it’s the Indy Circuit that hosts these miniature race cars, with a ten-lap blast around the hilly course in the Gran Turismo Racing Kart 125 Shifter. You’ll need to watch out for the False Start Check on the grid, which will see your engine power cut if you jump the start, so hold the kart on the brakes until the lights go out.

It’s a tricky vehicle to drive given the quick steering, short wheelbase, and tiny tires — Sports Soft grade this week — particularly on steering wheel peripherals. Given that Sportsmanship Rating updates are turned back on this week while Driver Rating updates remain off, you may be on a hiding to nothing.

Race B sees a trip to Deep Forest. It’s a second successive week for the circuit, but you’ll be racing it for six laps in the reverse direction and in the slower Gr.4 race category.

You’ve got free choice of any car in the class for this six-lap race, so long as it’s fitted with Racing Medium tires, but there’s a significant detail in play this week. That’s the availability of a range of vehicle settings options, which may see a bit of a mix of cars coming to the fore this week (alongside the inevitable Mazda 3).

Players will be able to adjust anti-roll bar, damper compression and extension, and spring natural frequency in suspension settings, and all differential settings — which could be interesting given the drivetrain mix of this class. Brake balance settings are also available, before and during the race.

This is also the case in Race C, which is a bit of a classic GT combo for the Gr.3 race cars at the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit.

Once again you’ll need Racing Medium tires, which shouldn’t wear too badly across the course of the ten-lap race even with the 6x multiplier, causing six times the normal rate of wear in effect.

That makes your choice at the mandatory pit stop a little more interesting: take new tires in the hope of making back the small amount of lost time, or keep them on to hold track position.

Either way, skipping this stop will cost you a minute by way of a post-race penalty, so make sure you take the trip through — and watch out for cutting the lines at entry or exit, which is worth a three-second penalty.

In order to access the Daily Races, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub.

With GT7’s Daily Races updating every Monday across the game’s life to date, the next new set should arrive on Monday February 12.
