Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial: Class War

The next event in Gran Turismo 7’s Online Time Trials is now available, as the global hot-lap challenge takes players to Willow Springs for a Gr.3 category shoot-out.

Online Time Trials are time-limited events available in the Sport Mode section of the game. Each challenge runs for two weeks, with credit rewards available depending on how close you are to the world record time when the time runs out.

That means that the targets for each reward change each time the global best improves, so you may find that a time good enough for Gold one day might not be good enough when the event ends. Each event is worth 250,000cr if you’re within 10% of the best time (Bronze), rising to 1,000,000cr if you’re within 5% (Silver), topping out at 2,000,000cr for a time within 3% (Gold).

Willow Springs hosts the new Lap Time Challenge for the next two weeks — ending at 0659 UTC on Thursday December 7 — with the main Big Willow circuit the venue for an open category challenge.

You’ll need to use a Gr.3 car for this event, and you can select any vehicle you like from the GT3-like category. At this early stage, the Subaru BRZ GT300 ’21 appears to be favored among the top 100 times, although not exclusively so.

Modifications to the cars are not permitted, with vehicle settings fixed — unlike many recent Daily Races involving Gr.3 cars — and the Balance of Performance regulations set to “Medium”. Racing Hard tires are required.

Last week’s Daytona Lap Time Challenge remains available for another week. This event requires you to set the fastest lap you can in the Porsche 911 (992) GT3 RS, also on Racing Hard tires. Currently the world record stands at 1:44.261, with Gold therefore needing 1:47.388 or better; don’t forget the DRS!

In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. PlayStation Plus is not required, as they are not multiplayer events.

The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. That being the case, the next new Time Trial should arrive at 0700 UTC on Thursday November 30.
