Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges: Turbo Time

The new set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges is beginning to roll out around the globe, arriving on your console as its clock passes midnight on Wednesday evening.

Weekly Challenges is a feature that sets players a short playlist to accomplish during each seven-day period, often drawn from the World Circuits section of the game but sometimes including a new event created just for the week.

There’s special bonus prizes for completing the events, requiring that you finish at least third during the entry period whether or not you’ve completed the races in normal play previously.

Things start off slowly as usual, in the Sunday Cup Classic event at Goodwood. You only need use a road car for this event with no other limits set, and as it’s a simple, two-lap race worth just 5,000cr for victory, you may like to go overpowered just to get it out of the way.

The remainder of the events are a little more lucrative, beginning with the Silvia Sisters race at Deep Forest Reverse. You can use any of the road-going S13-S15 chassis Silvias for this race — including the 180SX and SilEighty — which is three laps long and awards 45,000cr.

One wrinkle with the event is that it’s part of a Bonus Menu Book, and that means you’ll need to have at least started the book — Book 45 — at any point in order to see the race. That requires you reach Collector Level 27, although it’s pretty likely that you’ll have met this criterion if you’ve already met the conditions to see the Weekly Challenges themselves…

A one-off race also awaits this week, with the return of the Honda Civic (EK) Type R event. You’ll need any car of this type — the Touring Car usually works best — for a five-lap race around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. You’ll earn 78,000cr if you take the win.

Grab something turbocharged for the Race of Turbo Sportscars at Grand Valley Highway-1 Reverse. There’s a hard 700PP limit here for the five-lap race, which awards 90,000cr for finishing in first place.

An 800PP cap applies to the final event for the week, the World Touring Car 800 race at Tokyo Expressway East Clockwise. There’s a healthy 200,000cr if you take victory in this ten-lap race which also requires that you fit racing-grade tires to your vehicle.

It’s all cash for this week’s bonus rewards. Completing one event awards a 100,000cr ticket, while finishing three gives a 150,000cr. Get them all done and you’ll earn a 500,000cr ticket, meaning a theoretical haul of just under 1.4m for the week’s racing.

The Weekly Challenges update at midnight local time on Wednesday evenings/Thursday mornings, with the next set due at that time on January 31/February 1. You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access.
