Milestone has announced that the latest entry in the MotoGP series will arrive this summer. Reaching players on June 7, MotoGP 18 promises to be a big step forward for the franchise with new features, more accurate tracks and a new engine powering the title.
Billed as a reboot for the MotoGP franchise, 18 will use Unreal Engine 4 to deliver a graphical overhaul compared to previous entries. Milestone is making big changes to the fidelity of the series with advancements in track design, damage modelling and even rider faces. The use of drone-scanning technology will nail the circuits on the calendar as closely as possible. The pilots in the game have had their faces 3D-scanned, so they should be more realistic than ever.
As far as features are concerned, MotoGP 18 will deliver a comprehensive MotoGP experience that not only includes the flagship discipline but its feeder series too. MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3 and Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup are all here with full authenticity. With the title including every driver and track in the series, die-hard fans should be able to find what they’re looking for.
This year’s career mode appears to be taking inspiration from the latest Formula 1 title. Highlights in the announcement include a more advanced bike development system to help improve bike performance throughout the career mode. New cutscenes will also help in making players feel like part of the MotoGP tour. A “MotoGP ID” is also referenced, but we aren’t sure what this will entail just yet. According to Lead Designer Matteo Pezzotti Milestone will reveal more details about the game soon.
Following the announcement of V-Rally 4 earlier this month, MotoGP 18 will also launch on Nintendo Switch. The move to Unreal Engine 4 is most likely making this possible, with the console natively supporting the platform. Milestone has stated that a Switch version will release soon after the June 7 launch on other platforms.
