Does anyone else hate the fact that you have to be online to race in these bonus races? Why can't they just add the library of events to the A-spec career? Fine keep the time trial events in the seasonal events but addition of new events just to be taken away later doesn't make much sense to me IMO.

On their end, it's much easier to update things like this since most GT5 players will have an internet connection anyway. The fact that these events change gives the game more variety/re-playability/keeps players hooked for longer.

For the nissan challenge i used the standard gt-r '07, you can't tune the engine but you can lighten it a bit and then it was alot easier. I was 5-6 seconds off first time, then after i tuned, i overtook the guy about halfway thru the last lap.

I haven't raced any of the easier bonus races yet, but I got gold on the Last GT-R challenge at SSR5, and I can say hand on heart, these challenges appear to be well easy!

I'm not saying this because I am some sort of racing god, just that the GT_R race I entered was so easy it was almost laughable.

I got second place in the first race I did, and I was 'bouncing off every wall'! On a second attempt I got close to the Ford GT, and on the third, I had the 'give me the 300k already' attitude, so I switched on skid recovery force, and smoke the Ford GT.

If you want to race it properly though, you have to maximize your speed through the corner sections, because once the Ford GT gets on the straights, it will open up on you.

I haven't raced any of the other challenges yet, but if the GT-R challenge is anything to go by, then they will be nothing more than money making exercises! (Which I have a sneaking suspicion they are anyway. Why else allow driving aids?) 👍

Just done the SSR5 event.

I used the GT-R spec v 09. Tried it stock drove like I normally do finished 7th.

Reduced the weight on the lard arse put diffs, airfilter, and soft tyres on. I then drove like a complete t@wt. If this was real life I would have no brakes, front tyres or wing mirrors left. I managed to take the GT on the 2nd gear hair pin on the last lap.

What great fun that was!!

Could someone who is good at the Fiat challenge please post a video where you got 1st place? I've tried everything in this thread and am always 5 seconds behind leader.

Thanks.

Fair enough. But if these events got stored in the A-spec career, they could still add new events. Like if they had the new events in the spotlight by placing it in Seasonal and move the old ones to the A-spec library. Win-Win situation 👍

+1 on that.

Love these Seasonal events. I love the way they get you to drive things you might not otherwise drive. The RX7 around Deep was superb fun. The Challenger was very different with big power, no revs and dodgy suspension. And I LOVE my 09 GTR. I'm definitely going to buy another and give it the same setup, but full power, because this one is just perfect as it is and I want to be able to enjoy it again as is. Can't wait to see what's in 'next season' :)

Yea the difficulty level isn't ratcheted up too high for these, but I found them to be immense fun!

And there seems to be a positive buzz about the game in these forums, due to update v1.05, which is a welcomed change. :)

For the Indy Road Course all I did was:
FC Transmission set to 168mph
Racing Air Filter

No oil change -> 425HP

I just bought another SpecV '09 (Have the GT Academy version but yes, you can't use it) ...and I was going to upgrade this car anyway.

Did the following for SSR5 Challenge:
Stage 3 WR
Window Weight Reduction
CF Hood
Chassis Reinforcement
Racing Air Filter
FC Transmission
Twin Plate Clutch
Semi-Racing Flywheel
Adjustable LSD
Torque Sensing Center Diff
Carbon Drive Shaft
FC Suspension
Sports Soft
Rear wing

No oil change... 492HP

EDIT:
You can do the first 3 events with bone stock cars.
The last two gives you some wiggle room to modify a little bit.
For the indy race I just added FC transmission because with the stock it kept topping out too much.

What settings did you use for the final race. Have you won this event?

Could someone who is good at the Fiat challenge please post a video where you got 1st place? I've tried everything in this thread and am always 5 seconds behind leader.

Thanks.

I just golded it and I did the race three times.

Two times second.

First time 7 seconds behind.
Second time 4 seconds behind.
Third time 0.119 before him.

Agressive turn taking is the key.

If I had video equipment, I would record it and send it, but I haven't any. :(

Just keep trying.

PS: It was my first race in A-spec, because I was busy with the licenses and challenges. If you gold those, it is much, much easier, because you know how aggressive you have to drive.

And it was a stock Fiat 500, I just bought the damn thing and raced. Didn't do anything to it. So it's possible.

Adrenaline, you are amazing.

This way it's very easy to get the 750k money and 70k xp. I took the first place in lap 5 first corner.

I am a terrible driver, I can't even get first place with all tips that are posted here (other challenges), this is my first gold.

Thx a lot :)

I got gold at dodge challenge. I took the first place at lap 5 first corner. I am a terrible driver but with this 'cheat' It's easy to get gold:)

The info in this thread has helped me a lot. My lap times on the FC are definitely improving and I'm now turning 1:19s and 1:20s fairly consistently. Unfortunately, my first lap is still around 1:22s but I am closing in on the leader. My last race I finished less than a 1s behind the Audi. I'm on the verge of winning this challenge.

I only had time to do one race last night, that being the Fiat, and I quite enjoyed it - got gold on my 3rd try. But, I have to admit, I upgraded everything possible on that car while just staying within the regulations i.e. suspension, custom tranny, even the aero package. Reducing the gear ratio for maximum acceleration was the biggest help. It's possible to run in the 1:19's on a clean lap, making it a relatively easy task to catch up and pass the last car.

The key is to keep your speed up as much as possible through the turns and make very liberal use of the rumble strips.

For a real challenge, I think using a stock Fiat would be the way to go. Personally, I'm more than content being able to clear it any way possible within the limitations imposed by the game :)

God the Indy road course was easy, won it by 20 secs. Was in 1st at the very end of the 3rd lap.... I wouldn't have thought I'd be faster on the straights seeing the lead car had more power and around the same weight. I did also add custom suspension and aero mods which weren't necessary. Seriously they got the AI wrong on this one... SSR5 and Tskuba have been great fun and fairly challenging though, haven't tried the others.

...Although I must admit I found it to be pretty hard. Especially because we cant tune, or change oil, or anything...
I don't know if it's been posted or not, but the only things you can't change in most of them are weight, power, and tires.

You can still do full suspension, trans, clutch, flywheel, driveshaft, diff and center diff :)

Incidentally, I had an R32 as light as I could get it, tuned to 492 of the alotted 493hp, and I still could only manage 2nd on the SS5 event :(

Just did the Fiat race, very easy. Best lap of 1:18.628 and total time of 6:35.197. Sports Air Filter, Sports Suspension, Window weight reduction, 5 speed close ratio transmission. Took 1st place on the hairpin before the back straight on lap 4, won by 7+ seconds.

Edit - Oh, traction control @ 1, skid recovery on and abs @ 1.

Fiat 500 race: my best is 2nd out of 4 or 5 attempts. Tonight I'll apply some of the lessons learned from this thread and should win it finally. The key seems to be in maintaining momentum through the turns as the Fiat loses ground on the longer straights to the leader.

Challenger race: First attempt was with a fully stock car - finished 11th due to a spin in the grass. I left and upgraded the suspension and came back for a 5th place showing. Then, I ran it again and got first fairly easily. Aside from improving the handling characteristics and transmission settings, most of my improvement came in learning the track: braking points and turn-ins. That's where real time is gained.

???

Modifications:
Basic (Blue) Filter = 65 HP.
5-gear Sport Transmission.

End of modifications.

You can catch Audi A2 before the very end of the last curve and win with 1-2 sec margin.

Hmm, you can catch him -- apparently some folks in this thread are having a really hard time with that.

Did you try my modifications and settings to see how much faster they make the car? ;)

I won the Fiat race on my 3rd try -- first one stock, lost by about 7 seconds, second one modded with my basic low-power FWD settings, lost by about 1.9 seconds, third one tweaked the settings to compensate for the issues I encountered on the second race, and BINGO, victory.

Having a game like GT5 and not using it to learn how to do car setup seems like a wasted opportunity. And I'm not talking about putting on the biggest turbo around and overpowering the opposition, I'm talking about why a 65 HP FWD car is faster around a track (for me) with a 40/60/5 LSD setting and 0.30 degrees of toe out in the rear.

The best I can manage for the GT-R event was second place and around 6 seconds behind that dastardly Ford GT.

Any tips?

I'm using an R34 Vspec II Nur and detuned it to 489 hp. All weight loss programs applied, as well as everything else besides the turbos and sport cat converter.

Hmm....well all 5 seasonal races golded now, not even close to being difficult IMO but am not complaining as i got quite a lot of credits, nice wad of XP and bought some ok(ish) new cars.

Put a Full Racing Transmission on all the cars I used. Just got to tweak them for that perfect amount of power. Managed to win each race in about 2 or 3 attempts, though the SSR5 race gave me a bit more of a challenge since I can't overpower the Ford GT that was leading the race. Have to have him caught by the final chicane.

@magburner: which skyline did you use?

(Sorry I took so long to get back to you) I used the GT-R Vspec '09 from the dealership. Plop a chip on it, and suspension mods, and you have a race winner right there! 👍

I've got gold in four of them now and missed gold in the RX-7 race by a couple of seconds. :) I'll get the last gold after I do some more drivetrain mods.

SKID RECOVERY FORCE!!! :sly:

Or,

To beat the Ford GT, you have to drive fast in the bends, he will kill you on the straights, so keep your racing tight, and you should catch him eventually. 👍

What settings did you use for the final race. Have you won this event?

Of course, 1st place on my first try.

I used this as a guideline:

Drivetrain: (front/rear)
Initial Torque: 5/13
Acceleration: 20/45
Deceleration: 10/20
Torque Split: 25/75

Suspension: (front/rear)
Ride Height: -20/-20
Spring Rates (kgf/mm): 15.2/10.0
Dampers Extension: 6/6
Dampers Compression: 6/6
