NTSC US ps3 running in a sega initial d driving cabinet, with a happ belt driven force feedback wheel- a real arcade steering wheel. and real arcade pedals.. a brilliant way to enjoy gt5!

i also play gt5 in 3D on the 46" led too..

here's a video of the driving cabinet in action..

brilliant!

you will want to get your ps3 in the cabinet for gt5, this is a must! but- it is not easy!

there are a few problems to overcome to get the sega cabinet working with ps3 and a force feedback wheel. it can be done one of 2 ways.. an easy way (hacking a logitech g25 wheel into the dashboard) or a hard way (arcade force feedback wheel and servo amplifer hacked onto the pcb's of a logitech driving force, with all the buttons hooked ino the dashboard)

i did it the hard way, lol.. the belt driven arcade industrial grade ffb motor in the steering wheel is awesome!

then you need to get the ps3 talking to the arcade monitor.. you need a 31k monitor that does 31k for this, a sega arlly monitor is 24k i think so you would need to change it.

if you google "ps3 sega driving cabinet" or "ps3 happ wheel".. im sure you will find my threads and how to guide all over the internet lol..

sorry for hijack..! back on topic!

I built this last weekend, been playing all week >.< love winter vacation from work!

Advice to new builders, don't both spending all your time drawing out plans. Get your seat and your wheel and just build what fits for you from there. I threw my perfectly drawn plans in the trash in about 10 min and just did what ever fit best.

Awesome looking stuff guys! Us guys all need a space we can truly call our own besides the cold dingy garage or unfinished basement.

Here is my "Man Cave" but brace yourselves, it's a real "Man Cave" from the show on DIY. The episode airs tentitively on DIY on February 25th. I roughed out the basement myself all last winter and spring in preperation for the film crew, carpenters, designers and Tony and Jason to film the show this past late spring. It took them three days to make a blank stark "shoe box" into what your about to see. All my requests were granted and I'll be happy to tell anyone more if they're interested. They have a new season of filming coming up and they do most episodes on the east coast. They need guys in need of man caves with original ideas or themes. You do have to have your space in "shoe box " form and it does cost you money, but nearly 2/3rds less than if you were to do it yourself, and you get on T.V.!
Here is the "Rock Den" which is also the name of the episode, Enjoy!

I am not bragging, I am really proud of this space I created with help from a friend, I have known Tony for over 10 years and it was an easy process because of him. After building a business and in the midst of raising a family, this space is certainly a lifesaver for me. My buddies and I never need to go to a bar ever again. I am considering charging them a $1000 annual membership fee for a copy of a key and alarm code to the basement door.

M.Ponsiglione wow thats incredible.

didn't even know about that show lol gonna have to start watching it.

Amazing!

You should have had them build you a special driving rig though, would have been a good novelty for the show.

@ M.Ponsiglione:

Dude, in-friggin-credible!!

Everything about that Den looks great but I must ask, what are the stats on your guitars? I've been playing for the last 17 years and have had the same strat for the last 15. =)

btw.. that white/white on rosewood is pure sex

Thanks so much all.

Requiem,

Thank you, I've played for about 22 years and love it.

The guitar you refer to is actually sonic blue, parchment pickguard MIM custom Shop designed, not a custom shop. Although its a MIM it is my daily driver so to speak, I love it.

The Black strat is just that, David Gilmours Black Strat custom shop relic, a collectors item and not played very much, as a matter of fact, its stored in its case with a humidifier unless I host a party and showcase it for conversation shake.

The old worn out nasty looking american standard strat is my texas blues axe I call "Buford", its a self made relic with a SRV tribute theme, three single coil custom shop texas special pickups (the triple threat) and an aged maple fingerboard I am very proud of.

Goldtop Les Paul is a traditional 09' model, never had a gibson so thats that, its nice, i love Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Gary Moore but deep down, I am a Fender Strat guy.

Last in the pic is my first guitar, 1989 Guild D-30 sunburst, its old, and naturally reliced and the one played the most.

Not pictured is a Danelectro, Laravee 12 string and a Martin acoustic.

I decided it was time for me to do a cockpit and wheel set up. Been playing GT since day one and always wanted something like this. I moved this summer, the house I am in has a front room aka Family Room in which my kids play their PS3 on 42" of plasma with a DFGT, table top till this next week when I can do their cockpit based on a go kart. Their going racing in the next two yrs and karts be what they will race. So the muscle memory and sim training should help them some. I also have a back room that is absolutely perfect for a TV/Theater/Gaming room aka Man Cave....I love this room. First time having two rooms like this, SSSSOOOOO nice with kids. FWIW I am single parent with custody of my sons.

Anyway on to my cockpit. I own a 03 Evo VIII, under construction, should come out with around 500-550 AWHP. Has Loads of nice nice parts. In 15+yrs this is the nicest build I have done. Others were all budget builds with ET being the goal. This one will see autocross action. So with that I wanted to lay my Cockpit as closely as possible to my Evo's layout. So With some time measuring and remeasuring and pics of me in the car etc......I headed to our shop. Here are the results. This was imprompt engineering job, so no plans and no repeating. Hope you enjoy.

EQPT:
PS3 Slim 120gb?
G27
60" Mitsubishi (of course) DLP 3D ready and will go that route at tax time
Denon Receiver
Klipsch full surround set up with a MK sub that hits 10htz or advertised too.
My Denon only powers the Center, Rears, and Mids/Tweets from towers all bass is amped.....in the long run I figured this be easier on the Rec.
I play loud when I can, as you all know its really the best way!
Kicking the idea of a but kicker around....need to research them some

I got this seat from a friend at a good price.. . .SRT4 Viper Inspired seat

Oh when I got into the wheel area of this fab I seen where I wished I had included a tilt option on the cockpit wheel mount arm. Be very nice feature, if I had a but kicker and e brake I will have to weld on it and which point I plant to make the wheel tilt.......it does move in and out about two inches.

Also kinda like the look, it reminds me a of a kart. I plan to get a decal made that resembles the number tag (27 is my number ;)) on RM cars. As well do a large GT logo for the front.

I found out the other day that my set up is similar to my car for when I got into with my larger work shoes I had trouble catching other pedal.....exactly like my car. I can't drive it right with out a sneaker......sketchers work well. Plan to get a driving shoe for drag and autocross as well use on this.

Unfortunately I'm not at the point where I can buy/build my own cockpit, but this is the best I've been able to put together given my living situation.

Monitor is an ASUS 23.6 1080p, speakers are Logitech Z-2300s which make the roar of the wind on the back straight at Nurby sound like a jet engine

Wow. Those are amazing.

Some killer displays of applied ingenuity.

Dig the one with the real dash - minus the mild crate it is sitting on, though.

Sorry about the lighting, my basement, err CAVE isn't the brightest place in the house ;)

Love that mate, made me feel good about my set up cause I've ordered a Rennsport and a Corbeau Forza office chair to sit in when I'm gaming, easy to tidy away to keep the Fiancee happy!

I really love this setup. I worry about the amount of space a cockpit takes up but if I just mount a seat to a piece of wood I can use it as a normal chair when I'm not racing.

I think I'm going to steal your idea ;)
