I’m going to ask where the “chase the rabbit” concept comes from. We’ve been mired by it since GT1 and it seems to have gone downhill from there. Here we are in mid-2012 and the new seasonal events feature the 1st place competitor 20 seconds ahead of second place, leaving us to BLOW PAST ten bots in order to chase down 1st place before our five laps are up. Seriously.

He says things like “I hope fans will not be disappointed with little details, and appreciate the overall evolution of the series” – but this is pretty irrelevant when they cannot prioritize main features NOR details.

How can racing suits and helmets (which we NEVER see outside of driving a caterham) take priority over things like race telemetry? I can’t check my lap times after a race without watching the whole darn replay? What the…

Somebody was paid to painstakingly create and program BUTTERFLIES fluttering around in a photomode scene, yet they cannot seem to hire a competent A.I. programmer? Racing titles from the mid-90′s could achieve VERY racy A.I., but the premier console sim of today, which can be easily updated via the magic of the internet, can’t produce a mildy thrilling race without some major tweaking and trial-and-error by the customer? Using arcade mode, no less. …Arcade mode.

They had the thoughtfullness to implement the user-music feature allowing us to install a soundtrack from our HD’s, but during the pre-race screen of every single race we are forced to listen to the same two songs, forever? One of which is that mindmelting little diddy with the kids singing about loving us so??

GEE EEE I DUNNO…. JUST WHY I LUUUUV YA.. ahhhhh f****!!!

+1… The original Need For Speed (really called Road & Track: The Need For Speed) had some of the best AI. It was not just chase the rabbit, the whole field was actually racing, and this was 1996 on a PS1. 2012 on any driving game we should be trading paint, getting cut off, being blocked….real racing. Qualifying for position would not help that much with the chase the rabbit syndrome because then we become the rabbit; but with a better AI it would be good to be able to qualify for starts.

Let’s hope the rabbit chase ends.

+ ten million. WTF Kaz. Put up or shut up I say! So ridiculous that they WON’T fix the ai, and that GT Life A-Spec is shamefully short and bad.

And why does AI suck so bad in A-Spec mode, but it’s much better in arcade mode? Why does AI slam on brakes if I’m any where near him? Why don’t you fix the AI KAZ? Why don’t you care about GT5? Why do you ignore huge problems? Someone ask that.

Ask Kaz if his envokment with racing in the 24 hrs of Nurburg and with GTA have slowed down development of GT6 or slowed down improvements on GT5? Also will we be getting the 24Hrs of Nurgburg GTR?

I reckon that Kaz should’ve given us the 2012 Nissan GT-R 24H Nurburgring Edition that he drove in this year’s race instead of the 2012 Scion FR-S.

Ask him how he thinks of other competition games such as Froza 4. And also what’s his big plan ( feature ) for GT6. Then ask him if there’s going to be a Gran Turismo Vita.

I’ve been a pure Gran Turismo fan since I was really young, but not even I’m afraid to say GT5 was quite a disappointment…

To be honest, I’m not expecting anything else legitimate in terms of DLC for a while…it’s just a pretty good iRacing for the PS3 now, with my wheel and all… (If you’re getting REALLY bored, get a wheel, it might entertain you)

But if anything, I’d smile at some more race cars being added in…not expecting that though…

If anything I hope that PD makes all their cars from COMPLETELY SCRATCH, because if so, that makes some sense (unlike Forza and T10 who have their DLC already made even after the game came out).

If you think Kaz is to blame for GT5 not being “as good as it should be”…

“The first game that I made was Motor Toon Grand Prix for the first PlayStation”, Yamauchi tells AutoWeek. “The year and a half that it was in development, the last three months as the release date approached, myself and my staff were getting three hours of sleep a day to try and get the game done. Near the end, the people from Sony came to our development studio and told us it was good enough and that we could release it. At the time, I probably wasn’t thinking very clearly, being as exhausted as I was, and I talked myself into thinking this was good enough and it went to release.”

“But all the things I thought were not enough yet, the users said the exact same thing when the game came out. That was something I regretted very much when that happened because I knew it was coming. And that happened at the beginning of my career, and it was something I vowed would never happen again.”

Again, if anything, this falls on us and Sony. We wanted it now so Sony gave it to us.

I agree but at the same time, PD/Kaz is really poor at managing their time. Not to mention, they really should’ve got more staff to work on it. They had a huge budget, so they really should’ve used it to hire more people. Trying to get all the work done with such a small staff is a very inefficient way to do it.

And about the release, I think you may be forgetting the state of mind everyone was in at the point. At that point, I’m pretty sure almost everyone would’ve chose to have the game released, and “unfinished” than to wait any longer. The anticipation for it was at a fever pitch, and I know, I was seriously sick of waiting myself.

But personally, even before all the updates, I still had the time of my gaming life playing through GT5. I’ve never been so addicted and enthralled in a game/sim as I was. After the updates, it just really enhanced what was already a great (but not perfect) sim. They really did do right with it in my opinion. Some things should be fixed and some things don’t make sense but overall, GT5 is an amazing product.

However, PD still sucks in my opinion for being so bad about DLC. DLC 1 was a huge success, no other game puts up numbers like that besides call of duty, and they totally just did a half assed job on DLC afterwards. Car Pack 3 was amazing, i’ll admit that for sure, and the speed test pack was excellent as well, but overall, they’re done pretty poorly at giving us what we want. And I don’t mean just DLC, even when they gave us DLC, most of it wasn’t what people were asking for. All the TC’s, car pack 2, even some cars in car pack 3 (leaf). Then they make us wait almost 6 months, and they give us 1 track?

If you ask me, GT5 is not a disapointment, but PD most definitely is

This isn’t to justify EVERYTHING. A lot of what I post is to show things from a different point of view or to simply inform.

Yea. Sony did it to them again. One good reason could have been us, maybe?

^ I think you should exclude me from your generalization of the word ‘us’. I would’ve gladly waiting that two more years that Kazunori stated he wanted to finish the game.

damage is rubbish in any game they should just concentrate in this aspect on dirt makin ur car look as if you have actualy been drivin it that would be cool and bugs splating on your windshield doing 160 on tokyo r246 that would be awesome

    • June 28th, 2012 at 10:40 am - #
      another_jakhole

It’s only in GT5, because we wanted it.

“PSM2: Will you ever convince the manufacturers to allow some extensive damage?

KY: Yes. But there are still two big problems: The crashes themselfes should be as realistic as possible and affect the cars realistically but we need the agreement of all the manufacturers.

PSM2: Do you think it is possible to develop a realistic racing game without damage?

KY: No. You got to be carefull with an implementation of such a feature. We try to make everything almost perfect, so if we will ever have a damage model, then we want it to be almost perfect. After a light impact, the car gets some scratches and dents, after a heavy impact, it sets on fire and the race is over. A half baked solution for this is out of question. I do not want a car, which still drives after some heavy impacts. Surely you can help a turned-over car, but nothing more!”

      HuskyGT

To be honest, damage only uses up valuable memory that could be used for other things. I have the game since release date and I could count with my hands how many times I’ve crashed. Even when I did, the damage isn’t worth it. I mean, who plays GT to crash?

They could easily leave the damage away and just put on some scratches and dirt. If we look back, althought the damage adds to the realism, it is impossible to make it as realistic that it would be worth being in the game.

I’m sure that PD spent a lot of valuable time and resources making the damage work; time that could’ve been used to make a better game in other aspects.

So in my opinion, damage in GT5 was a bad idea, and unless the next console permits a more realistic damage (at least like GTA4′s real-time damage) without sacrificing more important things, I say that they leave the damage aside.

I think PD needs to figure out how to do damage like this:

      Now, that’s a great question/suggestion!

The event generator is not impossible to make, and it would add months (if not years) of replay value.

If they do, I hope that they make it possible for us to select not only our adversaries, but their HP, tires and pp. I don’t mind if this is added to the arcade mode, as long as it is added.

I’m gonna propose a question regarding the time info that is given during races.

Today one is given the gap to the race leader when passing timing points and that is okay for short races but in longer races getting the gap to the car directly ahead as well as the gap to the car behind would be so much better. Especially in long races like say 30 Le Mans laps one may be in a fight not for win but say runner up and the gap to the leader then becomes rather uninteresting compared to knowing if you’re gaining or loosing time to the car in front. In wanna know if there is a chance to see such info be implemented (it should not require much).
