Did I ever tell you I got a 1 on the AP Physics E&M test? At least I passed the Mechanical test (albeit with a 3) – not that it matters, since that’s not the kind of class I’d transfer credits for anyway (English, on the other hand – perfect class for transferring AP credits).

No you didn't tell me about that. Way to go on the Mechanical test, but E&M will kick anyone's arse. I hated it... a lot.

I remember one particular question on a test. We were given a circuit diagram... you know with resistors, capacitors, inductors, switches, etc. Then we were told that a magnetic field was coming out of the paper in the Z direction.

Then.... OMG... then... we were asked to determine the force that was exerted on the circuit due to the presence of the magnetic field.

WTF??

I knew that was no place for me.

I actually ended up doing alright in good old E&M, but only because I was willing to spend countless hours cramming that crap into my brain. Yuck!! I do not envy any electrical engineer.

I think we had three people in that class who managed a 3 on that test (and two of the three were the supergenius, voted-most-likely-to-be-successful kind of students), while the rest of us failed. Even my teacher hated E&M.

My thoughts exactly. Totally unintuitive stuff – might as well stick a spoon in a bowl of jell-o and ask me how it affects the timber industry in South America. I’d be just as hopeless in trying to summon an answer.
