Official Playstation Store Thread

Good question. Having them available for download for years to come is certainly possible, and wouldn't require any significant resource or storage capacity, and they may even update them from time to time. However, they could just as easily remove them without any warning.

If they did keep them all, I sure hope that they would develop a better filing system of some sort on the Playstation Store, otherwise, it would be a mess!

Also, Duck, its not just DN that notices your disapproval of the ps3, just read your latest addition to your "Collection of Random Stuff". :sly:

I just checked, and Sony has added 42 new regions to the online account set-up in preparation for the PS3's launch in the Middle East, Europe, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Here is a list of all the regions you can sign up for so far:

  47. UAE
  48. United Kingdom
  49. United States
For some reason Mexico is not listed?

It is not clear how many unique regional "Playstation Stores" there are. I've made only three different regional accounts. US, Hong Kong, and UK. There are noticeable differences between all three, each having some content that the others do not.

The UK PS Store doesn't have a lot of downloadable games that the US store has:
  1. Ca$h Gun$ and Chao$
  2. flOw
  3. Go! Sudoku
  4. Q*bert
I assume the GT:HD Concept available in the UK store is the same as the US and HK store, although I noticed they make no mention what version it is - while the US & HK store lists it as being v.1.1

The UK store is also without the following game demos that are available in the US:
  1. Ca$h Gun$ and Chao$
  2. Def Jam: Icon
  3. Everybody's Golf 5
  4. Full Auto 2: Battlelines
  5. Go! Sudoku
  6. Grip Shift
  7. NBA 07

In addition, the UK store doesn't have any of the following game trailers:
  1. Ca$h Gun$ and Chao$
  2. Calling All Cars
  3. Dark Kingdom
  4. flOw
  5. Lair
  6. Lemmings (6 clips from the cut scenes)
  7. MotorStorm (trailer #2)
  8. MotorStorm (behind the scenes)
  9. NBA 07
  10. Resistence: Fall of Man (20-min of behind the scenes videos)
  11. Warhawk

The UK store is also currently without any theatrical movie trailers:
  1. 300
  2. Astronaut Farmer
  3. Blood Diamond
  4. Casino Royale
  5. Disturbia
  6. Fred Clause
  7. Ghost Rider
  8. The Good German
  9. Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
  10. Letters from Iwa Jima
  11. Lucky You
  12. The Messengers
  13. Nancy Drew
  14. Premonition
  15. Shooter
  16. Shooter (behind the scenes)
  17. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
  18. Unaccompanied Minors

It also doesn't have any of the Blu-ray movie trailers from the US store:
  1. Black Hawk Down
  2. Click
  3. House of Flying Daggers
  4. Silent Hill
  5. Stealth
  6. Talladega Nights
  7. Ultra Violet
  8. Underworld: Evolution

OK, well that's what's missing from the UK store when compared to the US store, but there are some things the UK store has that the US store doesn't.

For instance, the UK store has a few game trailers that are not available in the US or HK stores:
  1. NHL 2K7 (I didn't realize Hockey was popular in the UK)
  2. NBA 2K7
  3. Formula One: Championship Edition
  4. Ridge Race 7

It also has several Blu-ray trailers from 20th Century Fox which are not available from either the US or HK stores (unfortunately though, none of them are available in 1080p):
  1. Behind Enemy Lines
  2. Ice Age: The Meltdown
  3. Kingdom of Heaven
  4. Speed
  5. The Omen
  6. X-Men 3: The Last Stand
In addition, the UK has the Casino Royale trailer available in 1080p & 480p. The US only has it avilable in 720p & 480p. Odd.

What the UK PS Store has a lot of though are PS3 promo videos, of which the US and UK store has none. Some of them are pretty interesting, like the "PS3 Stories" series, of which a few have made there way onto YouTube.

I hope this is useful for those in the UK and the US that might want to create an additional account in that region to have access to downloads that are not available in your area.

Oh... one last thing, although the files in the UK store say they wont be available until the PS3's release date (March 23rd), you can download them now.... so for those in the US, you might want to start downloading now in case the UK store gets swamped with downloading traffic.

^but you can still go to the other stores and get the other content right? So its not a huge issue?

Exactly, that's why I made the effort to list what is different so those interested can make an account in that region and download those files. I wasn't making an issue out of it, I was trying to make it easier for those interested in knowing what content is out there, besides what is available in their own region, which is why I said this:

Oh, I wasn't saying that putting it up was wrong, yes it is really beneficial to know what is in what store and thankyou for that, I was just asking for confirmation that you can just get the stuff off other stores.....;)

👍

One thing to keep in mind is that you may have trouble buying anything from another region, as I believe they check that your address matches your billing address, and if your address is not in that region I believe they wont let you buy anything from that Playstation Store.

I personally have not tried this, so I can't say for certain, but I believe this is the case.

However, all the free downloads, like the demos, trailers, videos, and any game that is free can be downloaded without any problems. It's only when you have to purchase something that I believe you may have some trouble.

I just noticed that GT:HD Concept has been updated on the UK PS Store from v.1.1 to v.2.0

Also, the US PS Store just added three more movie trailers (Shrek 3, Bee Movie, and Transformers) and three mission packs for Sonic the Hedgehog.

Along with the new content, it seems the download speed from the store as well as the system update is finally where I expected it should be based on my internet connection. Seems like their network got a boost along with the 1.60 update. :)

So what regions have you all made user accounts under?

So far I have a US, Hong Kong, UK, Australian, and now a United Arab Emirates account.

As far as I can tell, there are no differences between the UK, Aussie, and UAE stores as far as content, layout, and descriptions. All of which are very different than the US and HK stores, which are also different.

Has anyone found any other stores besides these and Japan that have different content and layouts?

I have UK, Hong Kong and US accounts. I would have a Japanese one, but there isn't enough different content on there to make me create one yet.

As far as I know, there isn't anything different elsewhere.

Wow, I just read a bit about Super Rub a Dub on IGN and they gave it a fairly firm thumbs down 👎 Would be nice to have a few more basic puzzle-type games available for download, even if you do have to pay for them. A UK update would be nice, too...

Looks liek they were basing that on a early version of the game... and it is IGN after all. ;)

Persoanlly, when I saw clips of it a few months ago it looked pretty bad, but the new trailer looks fun. Basically a new twist on the Pac-Mac type game. The wind up Shark is hilarious.

Yes, but these are all in HD, so they will be the same as anyone listed in the UK PS Store, so my suggestion, as it is very easy to do, is to create an additional user and register that one in the US. 👍

The PS3 even lets you signon in one region, go to that store, select a few files for download, then signoff, and sign back on to your normal account and select files from the PS store for downloading. All the time, the PS3 will continue to download the files from the other regions store, even though you signed out from that user account. 👍👍

I only really bought the PS3 as a Blu-ray player, but the more I get to know the PS3, the XBL, the PSN, the more I really have come to appreciate what Sony has developed.

IGN gave Blast Factor a low score and that was clearly a decent game. And IGN UK gave Resistance's sound a 7! 7.1 PCM capable and it got a 7 for audio. I thought the sound in the game was very good.

Duck, I know you mentioned that you had downloaded some games on your original 20GB PS3, like flOw and Blast Factor... when you upgraded to the 60GB PS3, how easy was it to transfer your original user information, friends list etc?

In addition, what was the procedure to reload the games you had already paid for from the PS store?

Thanks.

Well, I originally deleted all my friends off my friends list... so I can't comment on that. With fl0w and Blast Factor, all I had to do is go to my downloads history and download them again. 👍

That's good to know. When you got the new PS3, did you have to put in all your account info all over gain, or does it also remember all of that once you sign-on using the same ID & password?

I'm just curious how easy it is to switch your information and games from one PS3 to another.

(HK & JP PS Store only so far)

Game Trailers:
  • Devil May Cry 4 Promo A from Capcom
    136 MB 2'26" 960x540
  • Devil May Cry 4 Promo B from Capcom
    41 MB 0'40" 960x540

I'm not a fan of these types of games, but I have to admit... it looks very impressive... even at just 1/4 HD. Especially the scene from Promo 'B' with the fiery dragon... wow!

Still wondering...
