PS3 General Discussion

Actually, half of your comments are borderline spam, if you ask me.

But nobody asked me, right?

To each his own.

Also, I clean my PS3 using a eyeglass cloth, to get the dust off without scratching it. Then, I use these anti-static wipes for electronics to get rid of all the prints and such. But, again, this only lasts for a little while...

The XMB doesn't have an option for ejecting a disc, does it? The only mark on my PS3 is on the eject button. I turn it on and off using the controller.
I guess if you kept a fan on blowing air over it you would'nt get any dust.:dopey:

Just use a pair of these

Personaly the dust dosnt bother me, I just give it a quick wipe over now and again with a duster with some antistatic polish and it keeps the dust of for about 5 minutes and then it begins to gather again.

If you want to clean your PS3, then I would say just use a fibre optical cloth, with the use of your breath at times.

does anyone know if US ps3s will be able to use the emulation feature that EU and AU ps3s have? since for some games this could mean improvements over the originals it would be nice to have the option as more games get added to the emulation list.

Well, I haven't heard about any AA or HD upscaling with the emulated games in Europe (unfortunately), so it's not like we're missing out on anything. However, whenever the anti-aliasing and upscaling come into play, I'm sure we'll be able to take advantage of it with a patch.

Did anyone else get confirmation of their free Casino Royale blu-ray disc yet? :dopey: I can expect delivery within 45 days :indiff:

By looking at these shots, I'm getting an idea of what kind of game this might, be, the one that I dislike the most. However, the resolution looks jaw-dropping. This might be, one of those games that I'd buy just to delight my eyes. ;)

It's supposed to be God of war liked action adventure game. great graphics, hot female character:embarrassed: , hopefully the gameplay will turn out to be great, too.

I've yet to get my email and I registered on launch day around 17:30. I tried to register yesterday but I could'nt because it said I had already registered, which I had. The question is I did it on my PC. Maybe you had to do it via the PS3!?

Just to add it would seem Virgin radio is (somehow) going to be on the PS3 and Wii.news.bbc.co.uk
No information how but obviously it's online. But will it be an option on the PSN or in the store? I wonder when it'll be rolled out?
Actually it would seem to be an option on the web browser. No big deal then but still interesting. I quite like Virgin Classic Rock as I'm a bit of an old fart!

I do recall reading somewhere (and unfortunately I can't remember exactly where) that you did have to register via your PS3 to qualify for the offer. I will see if I can find the info out for you.

Does sound rather good, maybe a tie-in with Home, so you can listen to the radio when you are in your 'house'. Personally I can't wait for Home, I think it could add a new dimension to GTP.

Well, it looks like Timeshift, a PC/360 game, will be coming to PS3.

http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=42041&mode=thread&order=0

TimeShift is an FPS in which players control time to complete missions and defeat foes. The game will leverage first-of-its-kind gameplay abilities and functionality, and the latest graphics technology to create a unique action game experience. At a press event last night, Sierra showed off the new and improved TimeShift, ending with a video clip which revealed the PlayStation 3 logo in the closing credits. When asked, Sierra PR would neither confirm nor deny this news.

I am going to start a petition online telling Sierra that 360 gamers will boycott all of their past, current, and future products. They betrayed us, they betrayed Microsoft... we all feel left out by their decision. 👎

[/sarcasm]

3rd party exclusives are a dying breed, you should know that by now.
No, they aren't. Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Lair are all 3rd-party exclusives – they're just published by Microsoft/Sony. Console exclusives (games that also have a PC version) like Huxley and Bioshock aren't in short order either – they're just all on the 360 platform because of the ease of porting. Now, if you (and Jeremy Ricci) are talking about non-MS/Sony published system exclusives like Dead Rising and Metal Gear Solid 4, I agree.
Shut up you Apple Imperialist![/more sarcasm]
Stuff it, Sega nerd. :P

true I should have been more clear, when I think of 3rd party I think of games like mgs4 and others with no connections to the console itself such as publisher.

Hopefully the UK dispatch of CR discs is as prompt.

Home is an on-line community for the PS3, as described here...

Sony has announced official details of PS3 Home, a customisable, networked community for PlayStation 3.

Phil Harrison unveiled the service in his GDC 2007 keynote, as a free download from the PlayStation Store.

It will let you create and customise a character from a wide range of body types, skin tones, ages, clothes and accessories. It's similar to Nintendo's Mii avatars, but apparently with much more choice and depth.

This virtual "you" will interact with other PS3 users' characters using text, voice and video chat - as well as being able to create and join online games.

You'll also get a customisable living space, which will display hard drive content like photos as pictures on walls, or play MP3 music through your digital Hi-Fi. In addition to this, you'll be able to store achievements rewarded from games you've played; hording 3D trophies in your Hall of Fame to show to other Home users when they visit your gaff.

Something to take Gamerscore envy to a whole new level, then.

It's still in the early stages at the moment, but Harrison hinted at the possibility of developers and publishers creating spaces for Home users to explore, as well as non-game companies.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll see the service until Autumn, with closed beta testing expected to take place from next month.

If you have an account for the US store it has a video of home that's well worth a look as well.

Thanks Scaff.

I only have an account for the Aussie PAL store. How do i go about getting the USA account?

Set-up a new user on your PS3 and then go and register a new account, but pick the USA as your country, you will need a valid US address (just remember not to send any advertising mail to it) and a worldwide e-mail address (so a .com one). The rest is the same as setting up your normal account.

I have accounts for the UK, US and Hong Kong stores (the UK and Australia are the same I believe) and you will find lots of different demo's and videos across them all. The nice thing is if you start something downloading with one account you can log-out and into another account and it will keep going in the background quite happily. I once had items from all three stores in the download list and they worked perfectly. Well worth the trouble of finding a few addresses to work with.

What I did was go to the "Users" part of the XMB, and create a new user (named preferably "USA"). Then go and make a new Playstation Network account. Everything is the same, except this time, when it says to select your region, select the USA. It doesn't matter what details you put in, but you need to use a different email address to the one you used for your account (any valid random address is fine, as you'll never use it again), and a vaild USA address (I used search terms similar to this in Google to find one: "American street address"). Then put in a random PSN ID, and you should be all set to go.

I have several accounts for a whole range of regions now. The only one that was confusing was the Japanese one, for obvious reasons...

Edit: Damn Scaff!

Well, development for Bioshock started out in development for PC, 360, and PS3... but then at X06 2K announced it would be 360 console exclusive. I'm not sure about you, but developers don't just initially call a game multiplatform, then make it exclusive for no reason. I doubt it's dev costs, because they know Bioshock will sell well on the PS3, and they could recoup all the added expenses and more.
really? You sure?

When Assassins Creed was first announced at X06, MS said it was console exclusive. WHen it showed up at E3, it was PS3 exclusive, and then finally around TGS, it was Multiplatform.

Hmm...
lol, reminds me of my girlfriend...
:)👍 (much needed humor, well done)

Does anyone have any ideas of how best to clean the PS3's? I'd like something to ward the dust off for longer than a day.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Gaming/Playstation-3/Accessories/auction-94553551.htm

this seems like a good investment, stops scratching also, they seem to range from $15-$25 NZ
Hmmm.. I wonder how it would hold up after being exposed for long periods of time to the amount of heat the PS3 can output?

I use the same cleaning products as we use on out piano. It doesn't keep the dust away, but it does do a very good job of cleaning and polishing the case without leaving any fine scratches, which happens when dust builds up and is then wiped dry using anything other than cotton.

To try and minimize dust, you might want to try using an anti-static cloth, but I suspect it wont make much of a difference.

Is it me or are the PS3 BD ROM discs a bit, well..flimsy?
In what way and compared to what? DVD? From a design standpoint, the BD-ROM manufacturing specs are much more stringent and robust than any current DVD-ROM spec.

Quite true...(oh, and Duck, Dying Breed does not mean they do not exist, it just means that they are less common and are decreasing over time) and once console loyalists calm down, they might realize that this can actually benefit them.

(not saying Duck is, although his preference is not exactly well disguised ;))

Nothing is worse than getting hooked on a series that either dies out because it didn't sell well or switched exclusivity. As multiplatform releases, games will have a better chance of finding a broader audience, and will result in more games for all users.

The more successful a game is, the better the chance of future versions, with bigger development budgets.

Well, parents have just bought their own PS3 as a Blu-Ray player. Occasionally they may let me play online through it just to play on the Plasma. ;)

One question though. Is is possible to use the second controller with the other PS3, or is it specifically synchronized with the second console? I would try myself, but I hate getting things like this screwed up.
