Sigh I don't want to say it, but yes that was a boring race. I didn't want to say that because I am really happy for Alonso to win infront of his home crowd, and in such a dominent way aswell.

What the hell was Ralf thinking?! That's something you'd expect from Sato in 2005 trim. Move was never gonna pull of and that could easially have saw both of them out, not that it would have made much difference..

JPM is a man on the ropes really, no point blaming the car bud, Kimi drove well, time to take your finger out and actually race. I'd be suprised if he is kept at McMerc next year, even if Kimi goes too. Maybe he would be good with Button at Honda, both seem to like to blame the set ups of their cars when it all goes wrong..

The flexi wing advantage will soon be gone too, the other front running teams (Renault) will no doubt bring one in time for the British GP where top speed is important.

So here's to Alonso winning the grandest bore I've seen since 2004... *raises glass of Vimto*

I should have went to church this morning. I could have used the excitement.

Worst race I've seen, and that's saying a lot compared to what we had last week.

Oh well, at least Alonso won, an Fisi made podium. So, I'm happy. But, the final qualifying session was way more exciting than the entire race. I watched most of the race in 2x speed. Why? Two reasons. It's looks just like normal speed, but the cars go faster so less time is needed to watch. Plus, there's no audio, so no listening to those announcers which I can tolerate a bit, but not today.

So, how does this race "go down in history?" More boring than church. Ouch.

Well, Renault domination is less boring than Ferrari domination (which seemed purely staged in certain years), but still boring. Come on, McLaren!!! When was the last time we had three truly competitive teams? Ten years, at least.

Damn alonso won again :indiff:

I wonder how alonso feels now. Seeing how well renault is doing and how slow the mclarens are. I bet he regret his decision to sign with ron dennis.

I was thinking the same thing actually. I'm not a fan of the Renaults, but they seem to be quick at every race and are rarely troublesome. McLaren will surely keep improving but it seems like Renault is the team to be in right now and probably the future.

Nobody knows if Renault will stay in the sport past 2007. I don't blame Alonso for seeking better job security (and more money, too ;))

They signed on until 2012 yesterday (good news).

Everything could change during the winter. McLaren could become the benchmark team and Renault could go backwards. Nobody knows.

What a crappy race. In fact, every single race this year except Bahrain has a been quite boring, this one even more so. For sakes, I haven't seen a pass in the last 3 races (Imola, Nurb, Barca).

It really isn't a good thing when a bunch of people, myself included, have said for multiple races now that seemingly a pass has not at all happened on track during a race.

Yes, the passing hasn’t been a major factor during the last few races (read: there hasn’t been a pass since Melbourne) – but damn, the battles between Alonso and Schumacher have been very good watching.

Unfortunatly, this weekend, the race was almost over before it began, and it wasn’t a thrilling race. That said, it was a stunning performance by Alonso, and the ITV commentators made a very good point: Renault have no-one to replace Alonso next year—Fisichella is rubbish, Kovalainen will take some time to adapt, and it’s probably too late to sign Räikkönen. The only really good driver that they could poach is Schumacher.

EDIT: To those bashing JPM, remember back to 2003 – he’s not such a bad driver once he has the car, and the momentum.

After a very long careful investigation by myself, I've reached the conclusion that F1 is really boring compared to other forms of motorsport. Was watching EuroSport just now with the motorsport highlights. This consisted of:

- F1 Barcelona
- GP2 Barcelona
- Porsche Michelin Supercup Barcelona
- ChampCar Houston
- MotoGP China
- Le Mans Series Spa-Francorchamps

Also had just watched MotoGP at GP of China, 22 laps. Much more exciting than F1. Especially much more exciting than last year's season ender China GP in F1. Some passing, some mental battles, quite exciting.

GP2, lots of action, both races. Also saw GP2 at Nurburgring fully, much better race than the F1 one.

Porsche Supercup, meh, it was OK, at least there was some passing and Westbrook overtook in last 3 laps, not great, but not completely terrible either.

ChampCar @ Houston, quite a lot of action, Sebastien Bourdais and Paul Tracy passing people, some accidents, interesting action for sure.

And this weekend didn't even cover WRC which is usually quite exciting (maybe not when Loeb just gets a great start and nobody catches up, but other times it is).

Le Mans Series, lotsa action for sure, great track, many man LMP's, F430's, 360's, Murcielago R-GT, Saleen S7R, Pescarolo C60 Playstation, extremely awesome cars... saw some passing between the LMP's and the GT1's, some accident, anyway lots of action. The S7R won in its class (GT1) and the Pescarolo PlayStation was the overall winner of the race in the LMP1 class. Way more action than F1.

Seriously, last great F1 races I saw were Bahrain, Suzuka and previous races before Suzuka. Seeing the race at Bahrain, I had high hopes that the cars being slower with the V8, maybe more passing, maybe since they're all new engines someone won't totally dominate and so on. Ok So Ferrari are challenging Renault somewhat. But there's no passing at all whatsoever. THere's really no action in F1. I am very disappointed.... :guilty:

This season seems to keep going downhill in terms of entertainment. Not that Alonso & Schumacher aren't two great drivers that are entertaining to watch in their fight for the WDC, but where's everyone else? As others have said, I also thought McLaren would be more on par with the faster cars this year, if not just as fast as they were in '05. Williams have shown great qualifying pace (or maybe I should was Wurz) -- they're not getting it done on Sunday for various reasons. It's somewhat disappointing to see the season become a rather predictable one so early on (I really hope I eat my words in the coming weeks).

As for today's race, I was one of those "blessed" with the commentary of Daly and Sheheen. I'll give them a small bit of credit here at the beginning: Sheheen wasn't yelling at the top of his lungs this week and I only heard a few mentions of the lap counter working backwards. Daly's telestrator wasn't getting much action and the "kers" weren't crashing over the "kerbs" nearly as much. On the other hand, what was with all the speculation of 'faking' a pit-stop. As far as I know, you aren't allowed to fake -- the crew must set up once their driver is on his in-lap. Speculation of nose changes . . . why? Are you absolutely positive that the Renault is blue/yellow and the Ferrari is red? I could go on, but I'll spare you all. If I were to compare CBS and SpeedTV's coverage (and hey, its still a week away), I'll immediately say that CBS put me in about the same mood as if I were watching a baseball game. I cannot wait for the rebroadcast.

That aside, I was pleased to see Alonso win on home soil, though I wasn't necessarily rooting for him, I can understand what the victory meant. Ferrari just didn't have it today. Sad to see Speed retire as he was having a decent day in the STR. Ralf . . . what were you thinking, man?

Unfortunately, Monoco will be another uneventful race, not to mention that CBS will be covering this one as well. I'll at least be interested in seeing how the V10 cars get on here.

Unfortunately it's in 2 weeks time, so I'll miss it :(... because I'll be at UKGTPV...:dopey:

On UK TV yesterday, they had an interview wiht Jenson Button shortly after the race, and let's just say that he's 'quietly confident' for Monaco... sure enough, if Button can get pole, then he'll have a good chance of claiming his first GP win, but I still wouldn't bet more than about 12 pence on it.

Let's not forget Kimi passing Button in Nürburgring after the safetycar and Montoya passing Fisi.

Thank god for Kimi's brilliant start, without it he would've been 7th :nervous:.

Well, we can't expect much exciting races on tracks where it's almost impossible to pass. Someone needs to clone Tilke, there's way too much work to be done on most of the current tracks. That said, the FIA managed to royally screw up in certain areas while changing the rules, and obviously, that doesn't help.

While I think that giving points up to the 8th position was a good move, they did it wrong. A 2 point gap between 1st and 2nd is awfully stupid. That's a huge incentive for drivers to set back and enjoy their 2nd position while cruising to save their engine for the next race, as Alonso did last weekend. Can you imagine what it will be once they go forward with the "1 engine has to last 4 races" rule? :banghead: They have to drop the engine longevity rules, that doesn't help the independ teams at all and it hurts the sport. They need to increase the gaps in points given for the top positions, too.

...and drop the absurd 3rd qualification session with race fuel loads. :grumpy:

You never know. Quite often Monaco will chuck out a suprise winner.

The revised chicane at Monaco made for a few good passes last year, Heidfield move on Alonso was great. Hopefully it'll be the same in two weeks.

The thing with Button is that its not him almost all the time because Barrichello isn't all that fast too. JPM hasn't got an excuse, its blatantly him because Kimi drives fine.

I agree with the Alonso thing. His wins are boring.

EDIT: To those bashing JPM, remember back to 2003 – he’s not such a bad driver once he has the car, and the momentum.

I'm not saying he always was a bad driver. I loved him in with Williams, he made F1 so exciting then but He's not working well with Mclaren and he's just given up which you shouldn't do. The team works hard and pays him a lot to perform well which he hasn't....

Torro Rosso, on paper, should do well at Monaco with their uber torque-y V10 but then they have Liuzzi who can't overtake if his life depended on it and Speed who is obviously colour blind when Yellow comes along...

As for Button, yes it's probably his best chance of the season, but only because overtaking is about as rare as him winning...

The start marked most of the race. Both Renaults in front of both Ferraris, the only surprise being Schumi beating Fisicho after his stop. Nice move from Kimi, getting between both Toyotas to grab fifth. And the last 20 laps really lacked of any interests...

Interesting to see JV's first stint lasting 40 laps! They must have replaced his v8 by a diesel. :D And I foresee Ron Dennis putting JPM on a diet real soon. :p

I never noticed that! I thought he was a bit quiet, but then again the Spanish director was sooo busy covering Alonso's exciting laps  we didnt see much of the middle drivers.

Are there even any middle drivers in F1 anymore? Its been a while since I've actually seen them, so I don't really know if they are there anymore.

Carl.
In other news, Sauber-BMW, who already had Intel and Petronas, have just added Dell and Dupont to their sponsors. Future is looking good. 👍

Weren't the Dell ECU's the ones that failed BMW back in 2001 or '02?

I don't remember that, but if so, that's quite a while ago, in terms of both IT and F1 technology, so tha's not something I'd be worried about. We all saw last year how much proper sponsoring (or a lack of) can affect a team success, when Red Bull left. They have one of the best wind tunnel in the world, yet it was only running on one shift because of a lack of funding. :ouch: Now with Petronas, Intel, Dell, Credit Suisse, Dupont and BMW, thinks are looking much, much better.
