It looks like theres more controversy with Ferrari. Their top speed on the straights are raising concern:

1. Felipe Massa - 319kmh
2. Michael Schumacher - 314kmh
3. Giancarlo Fisichella - 311kmh
4. Jacques Villeneuve - 308kmh
5. Nick Heidfeld - 308kmh
6. Fernando Alonso - 308kmh
 
I love the camera which is suspended high on a wire and that follows the cars for a while.

I've just read about Villeneuve going off-track during the last practice session. Apparently, Fisichella had his revenge by blocking him, which caused JV to run off the track and damage his car. I've not seen the video yet, but if that happens to be the case, Fisichella has just made to the top of my own "I'll be grinning from ear to ear each time your engine blows up, asshole" list. And I can't believe the FIA wouldn't do a thing about that, it's much worse than what JV has done last weekend. Penalty decisions shouldn't be made according to how much of a buddy the team manager is to Max Mosley. 👎👎​

In other news, Sauber-BMW, who already had Intel and Petronas, have just added Dell and Dupont to their sponsors. Future is looking good. 👍

Well, that's stupid. Firstly, they're the only cars on the list running bridgestones, and it's only 8 km/h faster.
 
It’s a pretty big speed difference, and their Sector 1 times show it. Michael’s best was a 22.1, meanwhile Fernando could only manage a 22.4.

Slick Rick – I haven’t seen the televised version of this qualifying session, but it would suprise me if a team like Honda did use new tyres in the first session. If they did, they are wasting a good set of tyres on a lap that is completely useless. I mean, how hard is it to get a Honda into the top 16 (Don’t answer that Rubens!)?
 
Well, if they're making up 3 tenths in sector 1 and ending up over 3 tenths down at the end of the lap, maybe they're just running low downforce. That's the most obvious answer, especially when neither of the Ferraris appeared in the top 8 drivers in apex speed at turn 7.

Yeah, it’s definatly the most obvious answer. It’s a shame, though – I liked the mystical flexing wings answer better. :p
 
I hate having to avoid this thread all day! Just got finished watching qualifying (SPEED likes to air the replay at 12AM :rolleyes:). Good stuff 👍.

U.S. viewers: are any of you tired of hearing about how qualifying works? I swear, the SPEED team thinks that they need to explain it every 5 mintues, and it gets really annoying. Seriously, it's not that complicated. I mean, the first time I heard how it worked, I understood it completely. Enough already, guys; we know how qualifying works!

Hopefully this race is more exciting than the last one. I love F1 to death, but THAT was a boring race.

Even the UK commentary (Martin Brundle and James Allen) contains this sort of needless explanation. There must be an increase in new viewers or something, because every time Brundle mentions something Allen has to jump in and explain it for the audience. Fair enough, sometimes there needs to be explanation, but they don't have to (and shouldn't) explain the entire qualifying system once in each of the three sessions.

Yep. Quite a boring race, IMO. Not much happening at all. Best of the day was Alonso's grid girl, I'll post a cap in 15 mins.

edit: My predictions were quite close too.

 
I think Montoya has just gave up. He doesn't seem to be trying that hard in any of the races and that accident today wasn't all down to the car i think. Maybe a break in concentration...
 
Maybe he's a stupid jerk who knows he won't be in the team next year and doesn't give a rat's ass what goes on this one... maybe De La Rosa should take his seat and leave him to gain more weight and whine in Monaco by himself.

Here's to the lamest driver in F1 and McLaren's biggest sign-up mistake.

CBS needs to die! They've ruined what should have been a glorious weekend of racing on TV. So all week, I hear "Formula One, 1 PM eastern, Sunday on CBS!" (that's 10 AM here). So, i set my alarm for 10 AM in case I don't wake up in time (mind you, the replay of qualifying ended at 1:30 AM). I get up around 9:15, take a leisurely shower, have some breakfast, and then I flip on the TV around 10, and guess what! They started at 9!!! No rhyme or reason, it just randomly started an hour earlier than advertised. At least SPEED is replaying the race next Saturday.

That's not all though: Here is my comment on their ALMS "coverage" on Saturday (which I also got up early for).

Good to see Alonso win in front of the home crowd. Other than that, pretty stagnant race. Where is McLaren?? This season would be so much better if they were in the mix. Now, Renault and Ferrari just have to pay attention to each other, so the strategy is pretty simple. If McLaren were strong, it'd be a good 3-way battle each race.

Now on to Monaco, where seeing a pass is as rare as a solar eclipse on the moon.

Good thing I turned on my TV early. There wasn't much to see in that hour anyway.
 
You didn't miss much imo, the race was boring... imo one of the worst GP's this year...
 
Wow, tremendously bad race. The CBS announcers were in rare form harping on how can Michael get past on pit strategy even though it was obvious after turn 1 that, barring an incident, Michael wasn't going to get anywhere close to Alonso. Good job by Kimi managing to move the lackluster McLaren-Mercedes forward yet again. I think Toyota ought to look into that race pace stuff everyone keeps going on about. Finally, many thanks to Amp88 for posting up that pic of the most exciting part of the race! :sly:
 
It really was a pretty boring race, though I did enjoy the camera on the wire. It was very neat watching the race from that particular camera's perspective, even though it only covered a small portion of the race. Was there actually any passing at all on the track today? I can't recall a single pass on track.
 
Just saw it. This is actually only the *third* F1 race I've actually watched. IMO the V10 Cosworth was interesting in the fact that it had problems.

Again, great win for Alonso.

Probably there was some in the back, and then when everybody passed Montoya on the curb(when he crashed out). We did get to see Ralf's attempt though.
 
I thought the qualifying was way more exciting than the race itsself to be honest...

I was going at more of a legitimate passing. JPM was out of the race at that point, so it didn't make any difference that everyone passed him. Ralf's attempt was pretty comical. He wasn't even close to having a chance of passing his teammate. I'm sure the Toyota outfit weren't too happy about Ralf's attempt to pass there. But I'm sure there was some passing in the back of the field, its just we don't get to see it because we have to concentrate on his is in first and second place for the entire race.
 
Gosh that was the most boring race so far this season luckly monaco will make up for it......

Nothing at all interesting happened.... it was just a race...... hmmm

I also so annoyed that the mclarend are doing so poor..... surely they can do something about it!
