best 1970's UK car ?

+1 more for the Cobra.

However, if it is for the 1000 Miles, it's not necessary to be a UK car. I used the C1 Corvette. With only minor mods it smoked the field, on N3 tires.

AC 427 wins clearly. Don't try with some american muscle - a stock AC can prove quite a challenge for a fully-tuned Chevelle SS with 750HP.

if you're gonna B-spec it, AC cobra. if you're gonna drive yourself, something else. stock Cobra is a handful.. or two.. and tyres are blown in smithereens as soon as you think of throttle.

Nah, not really. I actually A-specced the first 10 or so lap at Cote d'Azur and Opera Paris, and I found it to be a sweet car. Controllable oversteer, and good fuel economy (compared to the Chevelle I tried before), plus not that much weight.

IIRC, the Shelby isn't the same. It's lighter. How or why, I don't know.

Either of them would be extreme overkill however. As I mentioned, a lightly modded C1 smoked the field, even on B-spec set to 3+overtake, on S1 tires. I'd bet that a stock C1 could beat those races. My worked '64 GTO absolutely crushed the field at the 'ring. Got like a minute ahead on the first lap.

The Jag E-Type would probably be a good UK car to enter. Or maybe the Gull Wing 300 SL. That might need some mods though.

The Jaguar really is the best option that isn't overkill. When I raced 1000 Miles!, the Jag was the top competitor - only 12 laps behind, instead of the usual 20-30 laps behind. So I recon as long as you find a set without a Cobra (First setup which I had to quit due to B-spec Bob failing to enter the pits on two of the races, forcing me to quit that race, had an Isuzu [Last], a Mazda 110S [5th], a Ginetta [4th], the Jag [3rd], an AC 427 [2nd] and, of course, my AC 427, first. Next one had a similar field, only the AC 427 was replaced with some crappier car, so the Jag came 2nd)

hi, i need a old UK car in the 1970, which is the best choice ?
the_gamezz
yeah it's for the 1000 miles and thanks i gonna take the ac cobra
Then I believe you mean mean Pre-1971, and you are not limited to only UK cars. All cars older than 35 years that are not race cars are allowed to enter this race.

The AC Cobra 427 is definitely overkill, and VERY expensive! For fractions less there are several cars that can be bought or even won for free that without any mods can easily win the event depending on the randomly selected group of AI cars. I won the event once using just an Isuzu 117 that I had previously won from the Isuzu Sports Classics event. Considering how underwhelming the 117 Coupe's performance is this should be a reminder that like many other races, it isn't necessary to select the best performing cars, or worse yet, over mod them, just to win a race.

If you use the following info:

Ranking & Data on all the AI Cars for European Event: 1000 Miles!

You'll see that there are a total of 22 different cars from which five will be randomly selected to race you. The only time you'll ever need the AC Cobra is if that is one of the cars selected. However, by simply exiting the race before you start it, and reselect it, the game will randomly select a new field of AI cars. Thus, on average the AC Cobra will only be selected once every 4-5 times.

By using the info listed in the link above, you can test out your car, it settings, and your skill level to determine your best lap times and pit stop strategy, and with that info you can determine which of those 22 AI cars you are likely going to be able to beat. Now all you have to do is keep restarting the race until you get a field of opponents that match or are slightly inferior to your own race times. Depending on the car you chose to use and your skill level, this should take littel time, perhaps no extra time at all should the first randomly selected cars all meet your requirements.

You can use the same technique to improve the AI cars should you want to use a powerful car and want to be challenged by a close race.

BTW: If you really want to save money, and want to use a really good car for this race, first win the Beginners Light Weight K Cup event. This is an easy race to win and you'll be rewarded with a new 1964 Ginetta G4. Even without any mods, a Ginetta G4 in capable hands will be able to beat all but a few of the best possible AI cars for that race. You do not even have to fully mod it to beat every possible car with the sole exception of the AC Cobra. Just keep in mind that the G4 is not a very forgiving car when it comes to handling, especially when you are trying to drive on worn down tires. Just don't push it hard in the corners and you should be fine. oh, and practice, practice, practice! :)

I hope this helps, and encourages you not to always select the most powerful, easy-to-win-with car (in this case the AC Cobra), as not only is it not necessary, but I think you'll find it far more rewarding to beat the AI cars with a car that measures up more closely with your opponents, and as an added bonus, a good deal less expensive to acquire. 👍

or, you could take ol 'Shel's version. your pick, they're the same.
They don't seem quite the same to me, either. The AC Cobra version seems to handle better or something. It seems an all-around better car whether stock or modified. I didn't do any extensive testing so it might just be my hasty opinion.

Interesting. I've not tried the AC, just saw that it was a bit heavier. It could be that the lower weight of the Shelby results in a more nose heavy bias, which could affect handling. (as it seems weight reduction often does)

Although, that being said, I have found the Shelby to really hang on in a corner, it's just a matter of getting it set up right (driving line, that is, so the car takes a set) through the corner. It is the embodiment of slow in - fast out. It does take suspension tuning to get the most out of it, but with no W.R., no engine mods, and no tranny mods, it's a nearly beatable demon on tight tracks.

Of course, a friend of mine thinks that my Cobra plows horribly, and I don't think it has any understeer to speak of. lol (all about driving style I guess)

I had already done the Shelby one-make series by the time I did 1000 Miles!, so I used my Mustang GT350 prize car for the series. To be honest I don't even know how good it is to actually drive since I just B-spec'd the whole thing. But of course the 'stang dominated everything else, especially since the fastest competitor was an Alfa Romeo.

I just like old Mustangs. If you're going B-spec I don't think it even matters much, all you really need is a lot of patience. If you want to actually drive the car yourself, at least for a few laps each race, then I'm not sure.

I think the Jaguar E-Type Coupe is best for this series IMO. It's not absolute overkill (but still much faster than half the AI field), not to mention it's a beautiful car, much better looking than the AC Cobra I'd say.

As for the Shelby vs. AC Cobra, well they're both very powerful vehicles. From what I've picked up, the Shelby seems much more tail-happy (though both are), most likely due to the lower weight. It's also much grippier with it's "pillowy" suspension much like the other Shelby models that appear in the game.

Dude?

Actually, of the 22 AI cars used in this race, the E-Type is the third best, and only marginally worse than the #2 ranked '63 Vette. In fact, the Jag consistently beats even the Vette on both Nurb & Sarthe II.

So even the Jag is overkill for this race. I'd say any of the top five cars in the overall rankings of AI cars in that event are all overkill. In fact, even the #6 ranked Nissan Fairlady 2000 in good hands is going to dominate most of the time against randomly selected AI cars for this race.

I do agree though that the Jag is a classic beauty, and fun to drive. I don't agree that it looks better than an AC Cobra, let alone "much better looking", but of course beauty is purely subjective and in the eye of the beholder. :)

Yeah true, I just meant it in the way that it's not the highest ranked overkill(er).

Nice avatar btw, lol.

does anyone know exactly what the opposition is in 1000 miles? Mainly because a modded 2002 turbo (which is easy to drive) might do the trick. Am I being too optimistic?

@Hapul Please read post #14 in this thread, there's a link to Digital-Nitrate's absolutely comprehensive guide to all the events, entrants, pitstops and laptimes for each and every race in 1000 miles! events. It's a masterpiece!

You won't be able to use the '73 BMW 2002, since the event is for cars from 1970 and earlier.

I've gone ahead and made a list of all 51 cars in GT4 that qualify for the European 1000 Miles! Event with the following data:

  • Weight
  • Stock Horsepower (oil change)
  • Stock Torque (oil change)
  • Stock Power/Weight Ratio (oil change)
  • Max Horsepower
  • Max Torque
  • Max Power/Weight Ratio
  • How to Acquire It
  • Cost
In addition, I have included the rank of cars used by the AI based on overall performance in the entire four-race event.

For specific and detailed data on these AI cars, please feel free to check out the following link:

Ranking & Data on all the AI Cars for European Event: 1000 Miles!

This list however is ranked by stock power/weight ratio. Obviously there is a lot more involved in determining how these cars compare when driven on each different track, like:

  • Handling
  • Braking
  • Acceleration
  • Top Speed
  • Tires
  • Settings
  • etc
  • and of course, Driver Skill

However, ranking them by P/W seemed like a reasonable choice in order to get a basic idea on how they might perform by comparison.
