I'll let you off for that one, MachOne, because your sig is class

Nice going I-Runner, seems we have a bit of a Lotus obsession right now :)

Ive jst been wondering to myself if the GT1 is the only car that can hold the no nos record, I think the 88CV might be able to but it just doesnt have that good of a power curve

Is There any Record for the Fastest FWD Car?

And Any Settings for it?

having some Fun with FWD ATM and Seeing where i can get to but Not to Good at this Speed Thing and Need a Top Speed setup for any FWD if ones been done.

👍 👍

This is the 300mph club

Cars with about 850+hp can make it by a few mph(3KGT being the aception) and I highly dought that a FWD car has enough power to go 300 or for that matter 250. You can try if you want to, you'll just be fighting a lost cause.

If you want to try other cars, look at the leaberboard in my sig or check out other peoples sigs for car settings

Have fun!

This belongs in a completley different section

Try here

EDIT:Try one of the civic's, mine could do 240. Forget which one, one of the new ones.

Just to add to what opendriver19a said...

The general approach to high speed runs is to increase traction on the driving wheels, yet reduce overall downforce. With rear and 4 wheel drive cars, this is done by lowering the back/raising the front, so that at high speeds the front of the car lifts (unloading the front suspension, and reducing overall downforce), and putting heavy downforce at the rear to increase the traction through the driving wheels. I should also mention that the general way weight transfer occurs in a rear wheel drive car during acceleration also puts more load at the rear, thus further increasing the traction at our driving wheels.

Now, if we apply this aerodynamic setup to a front wheel drive car tho, then because the front suspension is unloaded, we will get very low traction through the driving (front) wheels, and high traction on our dragging wheels (rear). As a result of this we are not using the throughput of the engine effectively, and we will (probably) get quite dramatic wheelspin.

If we try to rectify that situation by reversing how we set up the ride height and downforce, then the aerodynamics will actually work to push the car into the ground, increasing overall downforce, and thusly slowing us down.

As a result, you need a lot more power to achieve the same speeds in a front wheel drive car. However, as the engine must be placed at the front, which will also need to contain the complex steering/drive combinations needed in a front wheel drive car, space is severely restricted, and so achieving that power is not possible.

Hopefully you can understand that. If not, question parts and I can try to clarify things.

Uh..yeah..what he said

You have to understand that most cars like to"push"

And by that I mean the rear is the driving the car, hence the "pushing" name

On the other hand, front wheel drive cars "pull"

You just have to think of yourself on a hill with a couch. Are you going to push it or pull it? What seems eiser? Well of course pushing it is the eisest way--an FR methoud-- and you would have better traction....

Hope that explains it a little better...

And that means the front of the car is pulling the rest of it around. Making the rear tires completley useless. You may as well go out and buy a motorcycle if you want an FF car because it only needs to wheels to operate

Hmm I See What could Be Stopping me going any faster then,

I was Just Sticking a Rough Setup from what i had Learned from RWD Which is Basicly Now Killing my FWD Setup as its Just Giving the Rear Downforce For No Reason,

Also Not Wanting to use NOS i Think i Could Do Some Gear Work to bring the TQ Closer to the Revs at Full Speed,

All I Want to Do is Be Able to Beat the Like the Wind Race with a FWD Car it Seams Pretty hard Going at the Momment,

Will try what i have Learned soon and see Where i Get,

And May Try a Few More Cars but the Neon Was the Most Powerfull FWD i have Dont know about in the Game or Power to Weight but will see,

Cheers,

👍

Hello,

Today i reached 310,12 mph with a Bentley Speed 8.
I thought that was pretty fast untill i checked the list...

why do u go on the inside of the turn? seems like itd go faster if you went along the top edge by the wall but i gues that would create too much downforce or somthing?:dunce:

Thanks Opendriver (Post #3577)

4x4 freak, I'll get here before a mod does and tell you not to capitalise random starting letters! And discussion about front wheel drive cars has no place here, this is not a thread for general top speed discussion.

Well done to all those with new speeds, particularly the new members 👍

Yep, it's only just done from last night

i don't understand. if someone thinks about using a different type of car for trying to reach the 300 mark, what's wrong discussing that?
i gave it a go in 2 ff cars and the theory sticks.

Greetings Dark Elite!

I've been a bit busy having fun with TT lately, not bothering you or Toronado much for quite some time (but I will get back into it one of these days...)

Of course you're quite right to banish mere FF cars from your 300mph thread, but I would like to say that I have only 50mph to go before I get my Honda Integra into the 300mph club. Sure it's just a couple of suspension and gearing tweaks that would do the job for those last fifty.
250.25mph so far is my best in the Integra.

But heaven forbid that I would smudge your thread with talk of FF cars or anyfink like that. Not a chance. :)

nice new speeds all of you 👍

i think D.E. doesn't want the FF-cars in the thread because they can't reach 300mph and therefore they are wrong here.........correct me if i'm wrong!!

Hi Ozmac, you should get back into the seat of your Chaparral 2D, as Toronado no longer has the record, so it could turn into a 3-way battle!

opendriver19a
Great! MasterStorm holds the record @ 322.08mph
See if you can beat it!
Add another 10mph onto that... ;)

And stay away from my records!

Hehe, only joking. I enjoy having to retake them.

It depends on the car and setup. With some of the faster cars you need to go on the inside as they will swing too wide on the exit of the corner otherwise, making you crash. This is because one of the main approaches to setup gives low traction on the steering (front) wheels, thus making it harder to turn.

For other cars theres two possibilities. The actual banking it self causes an increased downforce in the car (due to centifugal forces), which slows the car down (downforce makes the car harder to move). However, this downforce actually also makes the corner easier to turn, allowing the car to accelerate through it much more easily. The outside of the track is also longer (more time to accelerate), though this difference is minimal.

Basically you have a trade off between easier cornering, and reduced body drag. Some cars respond better to riding high on the banking, others respond better down low. Generally you want to either be verly low (on the flat), and use weight transfer to reduce the forces preventing cornering (to increase acceleration through the corner), or to ride very high up, maximising distance, and possibly turning into the corner slightly so that the car is travelling marginally downhill. :)

Great speed again Opendriver on the Bentley,, Anyways Masterstorm your record of the MErc has been beaten,, but I want to beat it at quite a respectable margin before I post a pic,, :) You'll see:D

Gives me somthing to do tonight at least. I'll aim for 335 as a starting point.

If you think you can get a front wheel drive car to do 300mph. feel free to discuss it :p

Good to see you here again Ozmac, I'd love to see the old battles spark up again! Any chance of a new speed? 👍 :)

Well DE, the most powerful FWD car is the dodge SRT-4, 511hp with a 70 shot of nos. I got the car up to 241 with about 3 minutes of tunning.

If someone wants to try, be my guest. Your fighting an uphill battle you wont win
