GTMSA Presents

The Tour of GT4

Information & Signup

Welcome to The Tour of GT4. This new concept is based loosely on the great cycling race Le Tour de France. Drivers will race over 12 stages in varying conditions and the driver with the lowest combined time wins The Tour!

So if you're interested read on, and if not, read on anyway - you may change your mind!

General Information and Regulations

12 stages lasting 1 week each

Week starts on Monday, with times to be sent via PM by 11.59pm GMT on Sunday

All rules, regulations, car specifications, and races are controlled by TGT4 sanctioning body, GTMSA. Any and all questions should be directed to GTMSA officials (namely me ABud) and officials will do their best to answer in a timely and accurate manner.

All drivers must run at the specified weights and horsepower settings provided by GTMSA for each round.

  • Standard Online Racing Rules Apply.
  • No Cheating, hybrids, etc. You must run the car specifications I give you
  • Try keeping at least 2 wheels on course. Long races = small mishaps, but absolutely NO shortcuts
  • No wall-riding as well. Combined with penalties, this will slow you down considerably, so don't do it.
  • All decisions by GTMSA officials are final

In The Tour of GT4 there are 4 cups to win. They are:

General Classification (GC)
This is the big one. The driver with the lowest combined time after the 12 stages wins The Tour!

Time Trail Cup (TTC)
There are 4 TTC stages in The Tour and the top 6 finishers are awarded points (10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) after each one. At the end of The Tour the driver with the most points wins the cup! The TTC stages all take place in Arcade Mode -> Time Trial.

Special Conditions Cup (SCC)
There are 4 SCC stages in The Tour and the top 6 finishers are awarded points (10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) after each one. At the end of The Tour the driver with the most points wins the cup! The SCC stages all take place in Arcade Mode -> Single Race with stages being 4 laps long.

Racers Cup (RC)
There are 4 RC stages in The Tour and the top 6 finishers are awarded points (10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1) after each one. At the end of The Tour the driver with the most points wins the cup! The RC stages all take place in Arcade Mode -> Single Race with stages being 10 laps long.

If a driver doesn't manage to submit a time for a particular stage a penalty time will be assigned, calculated as follows:

110% of the slowest time.

Eg. If the slowest time is 19'25.346 the penalty time for all non submitting racers will be:

21'00.365

Also if a driver joins the series part way through their GC time for the races missed will be calculated in the same way

Championship Deciders

In the unlikely event that there is a draw in the GC standings, drivers will be separated by the number of stage wins they have.

All the other cups will be decided by the GC standings.

The Car

Lotus Motorsport Elise running +20% Power 241 Bhp & -10% Weight 630 Kg

This car has been chosen as it is fun to drive - fairly quick with plenty of lift off oversteer. It is no angel to drive but neither is it a pig, it's challenging fun!

No driving aids or TCS allowed
Tyres are Sports Hard unless driving special conditions (snow/ dirt).
AI tyres are Sports Medium
AI set to +7
All stages run in Arcade Mode
Rev Limiter penalty on for all races

All drivers will use this car for all the stages. There are no weight penalties, this is down to pure skill!

Schedule

Round 1: Circuit de La Sarthe I TTC
Round 2: Tsukuba Circuit (Wet) SCC
Round 3: Costa di Amalfi TTC
Round 4: Tahiti Maze SCC
Round 5: El Capitan RC
Round 6: Grand Canyon SCC
Round 7: Infineon Raceway (Sports Car Course) RC
Round 8: Citta di Aria TTC
Round 9: Chamonix SCC
Round 10: Seattle Reverse RC
Round 11: Deep Forest Raceway RC
Round 12: Nurburgring TTC

The Tour will start on the 23rd of August unless takeup is crazy and we can start early!

I'm definitely up for this. 👍

Admittedly, I prefer harder tires, and the Motorsport Elise isn't my favorite car, but it's terrific to drive on dirt and snow (at least judging by my experience in this old WRS combo, which I highly recommend that anyone try), and the concept of the series is fantastic.

It's good to see the Eddy Merckx of Gtplanet has signed on for this :). Here's my entry anyway.

I couldn't resist sampling this series, and I'm very excited for all of the special conditions races. The car is just wonderful to drive on dirt and snow, responding beautifully to throttle control, and it's very well behaved on the wet track. On dry track, though, it seems to me to suffer from a bizarre lack of sensation of grip, making it guesswork, at least until you're practiced, to determine whether you've taken a corner too quickly, too slowly, or at the right speed. It still manages to suit tracks like Infineon beautifully, but Nurburgring will be an exercise in patience, for sure.

If there proves to be enough interest in this series to keep it going, I'll have to get creative in order to finish all of the races, probably by doing two per week (since there are no unknowns like weight penalties or number of laps), because I'm leaving for college (university to non-Americans) in the middle of September and won't be bringing the PS2 with me. As short as they are, though, this will definitely be doable.

Also, is tire wear going to be turned on for the Racers' Cup races? And are the rules on track boundaries the same as in the most recent GTPLMS?

Good Luck. 👍

And check in from time to time.

everytime I think of the Elise, now, I always remember a video on Youtube that had the Exige vs. a Corvette C6 on Nurburgring 24 Hour Course. The two cars were pretty evenly matched for most of the video, and, right before the straight, the Exige snuck by the Corvette. The Lotus driver laughed and waved at the Corvette as he went by...then the straight happened....and the Lotus maxed out at 150mph...the Corvette didn't max out and had better acceleration, so the Vette just takes off and the next time the camera switches to the lotus driver...he's not smilin' no more. And the next time you see the Corvette, it's waiting in the GP pits.

GTPLMS was going to be the last GT4 series that I was going to enter, but the idea for this series was enough to bring me out of GT4 retirement.

G'Day all,

Great concept 👍

There won't be any tyre wear in the series and the track limit rules will be more forgiving than GTPLMS. I was going to define them track by track but I'll come up with a consistent rule during today to help you out.

Good luck at college, damn good fun (what I can remember anyways)!

Hmmmmmm…

Time to do runs: A couple of minutes to a couple of hours per race.
Time to get some sort of skill back: Hours, most definately.
Time spent shouting at a screen as I format posts: Days, if not weeks.
Chance to humiliate myself when I am horribly beaten: Priceless.

There are sometimes you will never get back in your life. For everything else, there is the GTMSA.

Sign me up.

A chance to drive a car I've haven't before. Only 335 to go. I like the banner TheStig13.

Ill take one please.

I am a beginner on dirt and snow. Any tips? I think 103% of any of you guys is faster than I can drive on GT4 dirt on a good day.

Go to the Special Conditions Hall and do lots of the Hard Races @ Grand Canyon and Chamonix.
Get used to braking earlier than you want to, get that weight shifted and hug that apex !

How sideways should you get? I can't tell where the grip is. I guess I need to stop avoiding the special condition races.

Great idea ABud!👍

If there's still room for another driver, I would like to play as well

I'm not sure how much fun it will be eating Austin343's dust in the special condition races, but driving the Lotus will be nice. Perhaps ABud can figure out a way to inverse the starting grids so the 1st place car has to start in last place!💡

Respectfully,

This sounds like fun will give it a try;hope to complete all races

I wonder how i'll manage racing the Lotus on Dirt & Snow...I've never had to drive a two-wheeled drive car on loose surfaces in GT4 before!

Hey KoW, good to see you again! 19's gone so i've assigned you 18. Stick a different number up if you'd prefer.

Also, take-up has been pretty good with most of the established drivers signing on early so we could start this next week if everyone's happy to do so.

Sure, why not. I got really busy after the first GTPLMS round, and was never able to post any times beyond it. :( However, I should be able to get most rounds complete this time.

O.K., i'll change it to 20 if it's available. I'm cool for starting this up early if eveone else is.

Please do start next week. :) Waiting until the 23rd would have been way too long; I think that interest would have fizzled before the series got off the ground.

I can do next week. :)
