Gran Turismo 5 Cars - "By The Numbers"

Could you please edit the first post to indicate years 2000 and 2010?

Good job compiling the list!!!

Another car that was deemed unimportant to bring back to GT.

All PD did was transfer the GT4 models over to a GT5 so why did they exclude this and the FPVs?

I think we might find a few more didn't make it as we play the game. Guess they have their reasons though. Have to admit though having over 1000 cars to use is pretty cool.

642 Japanese cars, 101 American cars, not much of anything else. Am I the only one who sees a problem here? Also, 136 Nissans?????????

Also, why is FPV gone? (all I see is Holden) How many more unique, interesting, competitive cars have been replaced by Skylines and Kei cars?

Actually, there is another Drifting RX-7:

RE Amemiya RE Amemiya FD3S RX-7

This is a DIGP Car:

I believe this is the one:

I absolutely love RX7's, but that's ugly, I hope they choose the Circuit/Time-Attack version over that drift version.

there are more on this list that are questionable- take it like you want but dont post things without backup or proper info.

Take this like you want, but don't you think it's possible to offer constructive criticism to improve the accuracy of information shared without sounding like a totally immature troll?

Or maybe the fact that your post count is just 2, means you don't post because you follow your own advice and wont post unless you have backup or proper info. Hmmm...

Or maybe you have more accurate information you'd like to share without sounding like a typical critic who simply likes to trash other people's efforts and yet is unable or unwilling to offer their own.

Or maybe you just create anonymous accounts to troll the internet and then quickly go hide under the rock you came from.

PS: Thanks for reminding me the internet is still filled with tools... and I'm not talking about the kind in my shed.

To everyone else who has been useful in pointing out corrections as well as offering additional interesting and useful stats without acting like a troll, many thanks, and I'll try and keep the first post updated accordingly.

As for the old tired out complaints about "too many Japanese cars in GT", lest we forget that Polyphony Digital is still a Japanese game developer that obviously has access and knowledge on more Japanese cars than anything else and that largely caters to their Japanese audience, and besides, just like past GT games, you can practically play the entire game without ever having to drive a Japanese car, so if they bother you so much, I would simply suggest ignoring them, as they aren't going to go away any time soon... just like the popularity of ranting on the internet isn't likely going to go away any time soon, regardless of how unreasonable some rants can get.

Fortunately though, there are nearly 400 cars in the game that are not Japanese, so to me it seems a tad unreasonable to rant over how there are too many Japanese cars, but there it is I guess. Maybe they don't have anything else to complain about. ;)

Or maybe they have nothing better to do with their time... :odd:

Wow didn't know there where this many japanese car's
(642 Japanese Cars)

maybe PD should think about changing the name from Gran Turismo to Japanese Turismo ..

I know that was bad i'm Sorry:(

The only Japanese cars that will be in my garage is the FD, the NSX, GT-R (R32-R34...don't like the R35), an MR2 Turbo (the 90s one), the last gen Supra, the 2000GT, a couple Z cars (240 & the 300zx).

Wow, I'm speakless.

More car from a single brand (*cough* Nissan *cough*) than from all the North american brands ?

It is very unbalanced I mean a hundred and thirty six nissans, come on, that's just brand favoritism at it's purest.
They say that they want to attact North americans so they put in NASCAR and then 60 % of the car list is japanese ?
For muscle cars fans like me, there's not much stuff to play with.

Thanks for the compilation job, I've always liked statistics. 👍

I think every GT game has had a huge amount of Nissan's I know GT4 sure did. How many GT-R versions were there, like 15?

Yeah, and that 136 Nissan's isn't even including the tuning companies: ie. Nismo, Blitz, etc. It is ridiculous:grumpy:

Here's my quick analysis;

~718 Cars carried over from GT4 (Pal version)
~124 Additional Standard Models - mostly rebadges of the above!*
~188 Premium cars - Almost all new since GT4

11 GT4 Cars removed from the game;
Audi Auto Union V16 Type C Streamliner
Daihatsu Midget
Ford Model T Tourer
FPV F6 Typhoon
FPV GT
Hyundai Accent Rally Car
Mercedes-Benz Benz Patent Motor Wagen
Mercedes-Benz Daimler Motor Carriage
Nike One
Toyota ESSO Ultraflow Supra (JGTC)
Toyota Motor Triathlon Race Car

*Cars such as the Mazda Eunos/Miata/MX-5 seem to be counted seperately now, So of the apparent 46 new Mazdas, only 3 or 4 are actually new to the game.

Or looking at it as percentages;
~70% of the cars are straight from GT4.
~12% are rebadges.
~18% are new.

Great list. Thanks. What would be really nice is to have separate numbers for standard and premium from the line "822 Roads Cars" and below.

Let me fire a dumb question which has annoyed me for the past weeks. Pls, forgive me in advance if there's already a thread addressing this question.

I assume that there aren't enough cars in some categories to complete a full line up of 16 online players if you choose for Nascar or F1. Right? If so, how does PD plan to solve this deficit of cars for those players willing to play specific categories?

regards,

Same here. One classic Mustang, fifteen Honda Civics. That's what us Americans get for buying well over twice as many copies of GT4 as the Japanese did.

That is a good question. I'm sure that they didn't take that into account, and that you can not limit the race to Nascar or F1, etc. only. Of course I am just speculating, but that is my guess.

I'm glad to see some of the worthless or stupid looking stuff gone (MTR, Nike One, Model T, Midget, etc etc etc). But why did they take out FPV and the Accent? Those were competitive, unique cars, gone now for no reason whatsoever. I hope we get DLC of them.

Just like GT5P, online players can choose to use the same model cars in the same race... in fact that is often the goal such that no one has a mechanical advantage.

Actually, it doesn't look quite so bad when you look purely at the premium models only. There are roughly the same number of Japanese cars as there are European although the Americans always get the short end of the stick. I counted about 23 unique US models in the premium line-up (excluding different liveries), most of them being from Chevrolet, Dodge & Ford unsurprisingly.
Most well-known Japanese cars are premium models anyway. I mean, if you have an R34 V-Spec II Nur as premium, why the hell would you want a standard '99 variant or anything else? I'm disappointed that the Supra RZ is standard, though. I mean, one of the most popular Japanese cars of all time?? Yet, we have the 3.0GT Turbo '88 as premium :ouch:

...Only Volvo for Sweden, how pathetic. I cannot believe PD could forget about Koenigsegg when they made the game. Where have they been? Don't they know, the CCX-R is a Veyron killer.

I cannot believe PD could forget about _______ when they made the game. Where have they been? Don't they know, the _______ is a _______ killer.

Fixed for future reference.

As you may not realize, developer's can't arbitrarily add any licensed car they want to their games... that's why they call it a licensed car.

It would seem fairly obvious that Koenigsegg, like Porsche, have exclusive licensed deals which prohibit those cars from being in GT... for now.

As we have seen with other companies, like Ferrari and Lamborghini, once exclusive licenses expire, they are able to negotiate new licenses.

If you are truly bent out of shape because no car from Koenigsegg is in the game, you might want to contact the marketing department for Koenigsegg and find out how soon it would be possible for their cars to be licensed for use in GT:

pr_marketing@koenigsegg.se
+46 431 45 44 60

Or realize that PD has most likely already done that long ago, and like you are simply waiting for approval.
