Yes this is not an actual racing series, but this is the only place I could think to post this.

I would like the opinion of everyone that frequents this section of GTPlanet as I have noticed a trend lately that is discouraging. I'm hoping there are more people out there that agree with me.

My main question is: Why are there so many racing series that are the same? Seems like every day I come into the GT5 Racing section and see another Super GT, FIA GT or LeMans racing series that is looking for registrations. Now, don't take this the wrong way, I'm not complaining. I'm just wondering why people choose to create a series that's been beat to death over something new and fresh?

Well Super GT all seem to have different times attached and some shouldn't be displayed on here.(the Euro one for example) Way to much of them.

FIA GT seems to be just the GT1-4 and the one Mitch has, and some other guy as well who looks like he just copy-pasted a series, without smilies and pictures.:dunce:

Le Mans seems to be very popular, however there are only two series (Bermudakid's and Mohamu's) and a lot of one-off races, you see quite a lot of other series collapsing due to bad organization so it's just the people you see in the GT5 forum saying 'this is a fast car, let's have a league for it, make it 20 races and 50 laps each' and the others do the first race and no-one competes after that.

While it may be repetitive, I don't think it really matters as the other series are generally more popular, or the most organized SuperGT/Le Mans/FIA GT are more popular then the rest.

I looked at the options for a different series but all of the real life ones have already been done. Some failed some made it, it takes a lot of work even to do a series as simple as mine. There is a lot of disapointment with people not turning up etc.
I think what attracts people to Super GT and Le Mans is there are a good choice of cars ready to go in the game already.
I fancy a world sportscar championship, has that been done before?

There is a Super Car Endurance but I dont think sports cars have been done. How about Convertible Championships?

Thats a good thought, anything that gets people into new cars for a race would be good, Ferrari California vs Mx-5 :) I jest, its a good idea, you should do it!

Not sure if you could find the cars needed but this is what I was thinking about.

Here's a list I put together that shows some of the series that can be created. And this is just the top of the iceberg.

  • Classic NASCAR
  • DTM
  • Indy Car
  • World Rally
  • Endurance Racing (All)
  • Spec Viper ACR
  • Lexus IS-F Cup
  • Integra Cup
  • Formula 3
  • Gallardo Trophy Cup
  • Porsche GT3 Cup
  • Trans Am
  • World Challenge
  • Ferrari Challenge
  • Corvette Challenge
  • Ferrari 458 Cup
  • Lotus 111R Cup
  • Nissan GT-R Challenge (no R35)
  • Spec Miata
  • GSX-R/4 Challenge
  • Rally Cross
  • Mustang Challenge
  • S2000 Cup
  • Caterham Challenge
  • Spec NSX
  • Nissan Z Cup
  • Cappuccino Cup
  • Renault Sport Cup
  • Trueno Cup
  • Honda CR-Z Cup
  • Nissan mm-R Cup
  • Jetta Challenge
  • Spec Audi TT
  • Spec Focus
  • Lupo GTi Cup
  • March Cup
  • Mini Challenge
  • Kart Racing

I think a S2000 LM would do pretty good as a series. I have 3 different liveries and I think there could be more.

  • Rally Cross

I would love this, but without any tracks or suitable modifications available, it'd just be a series of racing moderately powered rally cars or highly tuned road cars.

I think I found the answer.
Unwanted SuperGT cars / SuperGT car limits.

In every SuperGT series I've seen, the common favorite cars are already picked. And they're most people's favorites because they're known as the "fastest", most people don't want to join/stay in a series feeling at a disadvantage because they were forced to choose from inadequate cars.

I haven't tested any against each other directly yet, but there are obvious major differences between them, so after the first couple guys pick out the favorites, it leaves people scrapping for the "best of the worst" even if it is only in their mind, that's where it counts for continued participation, so they start their own series with the same rules again.

(working on title :p)

Here's the promo: 8 friends. 8 cars. 1 Dream. Coming this fall, an amazing group of universally average drivers takes to the streets, finishing similar races in similar times over similar periods of time. They'll battle nose to tail, hour after gut-wrenching hour (or till someone wrecks out half the field) until only one can call themselves champion for that night, that group and that particular time slot. The storm is coming. Get your fix monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, staurday and probably sunday this fall. Check your local listings for details

How could anyone resist posting/joining up?

My 2 Cents

I think a lot of folks like to see their name smeared all over GTP, giving their two cents about series they have no interest in actually running and faux modding to their little hearts content. Starting these series is the same thing. I honestly think folks are out there thinking that everyone in the known universe is following the heart pounding action of their weeknight GT series.

People like what they like. You can't fault them for that. There are other "unique" series available. Few are interested. I've got:
FTG
Super Touring
Race Modified
Masters

Not a lot of sign ups. The challenge is finding people who like to race the way you do. I've got about 5 dedicated people sofar and plan to grow that #.

+1. I recently counted the number of Super GT series and the number came up to ELEVEN!!!!!

FIA GT is alright since they're at least the different series, not too sure we need more than one LMP or Group C Series. Together they seem to work but it wouldn't melt realistically.

And a good list of ideas there Turbo. ;)

Lots of potential great series in that list. Close specs, not overpowered but wellbalanced cars suited for close racing.

I'd spend WAY too much time with GT5 if just a fraction of these ideas were put into reality. :) And I'll take the opportunity to plug R1600Turbos CR-Z series, as well as keeping an eye out for next seasons races at WSCC.

Thanks ID.

And thanks everyone for the opinions. Judging by the poll it looks like we could use some different racing series around here. I know I posted the list above with some of my ideas, what are some things that you guys would like to see?

I'm curious as to why it bothers you enough to start a thread about it.

Check the current poll results. I'm not alone.

Why does my thread bother you enough to post in it?

I think another problem is sheer oversaturation of series'. People will join all of those Super GT/LMP series, and then when a series using a "slow" car comes up, because everyone is already in all these series, nobody joins up. You're struggling to get people for your CR-Z series, and after I made the Camaro series, I had a handful of people join right away, but after that, nothing.

And by the way, no Super GT series will ever come close to WSGTC in terms of quality. The time and effort those guys put into it is stunning. If I could, I'd nominate it for GTP's "official" Super GT series.

I'm sorry, but having 5 different series' on page 1 alone is absolutely ridiculous. There should be a hard cap on the amount of series' you're allowed to run at 1 time.

He's quite well known for posting threads around here I tell you

And yeah, I've noticed everyone puts priority on either faster or easy to organize series around here. It's why of about the gazillion attempts to make a series I've tried all have failed. And there aren't enough people and fast/established types of series to get a majority of people in the slower/newer ones. :(

Have to agree with you for Super GT series as well. It is just a very refined series with all kinds of professionalism around it. The others aren't really as good in many aspects. It's like the Golf GTI of the Super GT series here - as the original it's always the best ;)

This ^^^

Super GT is very appealing for their ready made racing spec cars. The way i see it - people have different schedules and racing series' have different race times. People are scattered depending on how these two match. My series run on fridays (noon PST/night GMT) and ive had a lot of people wanting to join but could not because of their schedule so they look somewhere else.

Agreed.

1 Really organized racing series > multiple racing series

There are an awful lot of these series but type of events that really need clamping down on are multi class events. 2 classes are fine but 4 classes in an event limited to 16 is just plain stupid.

I just want a good time attack series. A series that you can take your street car up to a certain PP rating, use race medium tires, and go to peoples created tracks. All at a reasonable hour of the day, say 7:30PM EASTERN! Any takers?

Although separate lobbies might solve that...but again that takes organization and consideration. Plus setting up 4 equal classes is sure as heck not easy anyway :indiff:

I don't have the time to set up a series, but I'm definitely interested in doing so. I need someone else's talent for that. I have good ideas though. 2 races a night and 15-20 laps each with a featured time attack at a scheduled users created track.

Seperate lobbies is a good idea and I think they use that in WSGTC but i'm not 100% sure.

We run 28 cars per week in 2 lobbies (14 each). Each grids have 2 classes.

👍
Me too. Like someone has said in this post. People live in different places, time zones and work different times and have different days off. So, if there is not more than a couple of GT serise I may never get to run in one. At least we all have a choice.

And really, so what that there are alot of GT series. I'm having fun here at GT Planet. And isn't that what its all about?

Well said. Australia are about 9 hours ahead of GMT. USA are 5 hours ahead, which means Australia are 14 hours ahead. The main reason for there being a lot of the same Series. Super GT cars are very popular because of the readily available(ness) since they are premium. Since a lot of people from different countries like them, there has to be different ones run at different times. I dont see the problem in having multiple race series. If I want a change then I just host instead of waiting around for others. You are ofcourse entitled to your opinion but those are there reasons to non-variety.

And ofcourse being unable at certain times due to other responsibilities.

But at the same time, as the creator of a couple of series here, when someone completely ignores all of your hard work, and starts a series using the exact same car, it's insulting, and I felt I had a right to let them know that there was something already being done with that car.

But I guess I'm too much of a "tool" to have my work recognized, right?
