I just got a new ps3 slim since my old one(fat model) died from the ylod. The old one has all my save data and won't turn on at all. How do I get my save data from that one to my new ps3?

No, you can't use someone else game save.
I surprised to hear that people aren't using the game save to a USB option. I back up my games save at least once a week, but probably more often than that.
Personally, I'd just start the game over since it is a lot easy to make money now with the seasonal races. I just started another profile on my PS3 since I've reach level 40 and with in a couple hours I have over a million dollars in the bank.
sadly I already tried that and it didn't work
Just take the old HDD out and put it in your new console.
That doesnt work the new PS3 will format it straight away.
Does anyone know if this will work? What about using a PC as a bridge? I don't know what kind of HDs are in PS3s, but if he has an open bay on his PC, can he jack it in there and pull the data off? I know you can copy the GT5 save data to a PC and then transfer it to another medium without corruption because I have done it. The question is will the PC recognize the HD and will be able to do something intelligent with the file system? That I do not know.

Yes it should be universal with all PS3's b/c the HDD is just a 2.5'' SATA, so it will work for any PS3, no matter the generation. The HDDs are not all designed the same way. For instance a 2nd gen Fat PS3 HDD will not work in a 3rd gen Fat PS3 and vise versa. Im pretty sure, but have not checked, that a Fat PS3 (any gen) will not fit a Slim PS3. I would actually have to remove my slim HDD to prove this though. I Do know this info as I have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen PS3s and have rebuilt the older 2. To my knowledge, the Slims should be interchangeable.
NopeDoes anyone know if this will work?
I did this to my PS3, took it apart and reapplied the thermal paste, etc, and knock on wood, its been going for about 2 1/2 months so far, with a total age of 4 1/2 years old.You require a heat gun and patience...it should work if done correctly. Im on fix #5. (My other 2 fat PS3s and 3 friends PS3s). Knock on wood, to date they all still work except for my current #5 I have in pieces. Including my other personal PS3 that is now on over a year after the "fix".
...I've tried, and also with the hairdryer trick, try doing it for 25-30 mins instead of 15, thats what I did....

Nope, b/c first you'd need a Mac b/c it reads pretty much any HDD format, but sadly even if you did the PS3 encodes the HDD in a way that no computer can read it. I've tried, and also with the hairdryer trick, try doing it for 25-30 mins instead of 15, thats what I did.

Its not the HDD itself...its the design and the way it is mounted in the different PS3s...not to mention the compartments are different. Ill try to remember to take a picture for you so you can see what im saying. Maybe there is way to make it work or maybe your more knowledgeable than me idk...didnt try that hard. Only reason I tried is after I did a reflow on the 3rd gen I wanted to see if it worked and to ensure the HDD was still good, but didnt want to wait forever for the new operating system to download onto the new HDD(wireless).
If memory serves me its a pinned connector....cant remember. I would think theoretically it could be done. Probably easier to figure out a way to make it fit if it doesnt all ready though.Yeah, but this isn't a permanent solution. Can you get the thing connected, even if it's dangling from nothing but that wire? As a quick fix to just get data off it, it would be worth Rube Goldberg-ing it together if the connection can be made.

My slim model looks as if it simply slides right out. The 3rd gen slides straight out as well....
Well, I started out with a premium '97 Honda Civic Type R (189hp) ran a few A-spec races then bought a set of Sport Soft tires.A few hours? What did you play on?

Data recovery can be VERY expensive and probably not very economical for a video game.
Slims are not interchangeable ive done 2 Hdd changes and as soon as you boot it up it will ask for a small program to format the hard drive which you get from the sony site. As far as im aware aware all slim PS3s have a unique code in them prohibitating this procedure amonst other things.
