Motor City Tunes

I've really been enjoying your tunes the past week or so, especially on my Civic 1500 '83. Started to tweak the tunes here and there to probably better suit my driving style.

I do have a question, as I make adjustments, I find that I obtain an overwhelming amount of data just written down on the copy of the tune. Do you use a specific data sheet to help adjust your tunes, or just jot the stuff down? Since it's slow at work, I'm thinking of trying to create one but not sure exactly where to start.

Also, do you have a tune for the '49 VW Beetle? I have three different ones but cannot seem to find a happy place between them all.

I have been reading your manuals. They are in my Ebook for further reference as it's hard remembering everything that you've written especially for a "tuneless" guy like me.

I tweaked tunes based on a few of your "Non Tuner" tunes and boy do they make a difference.

The biggest one being the Tiburon Turbulance tune I was playing with. I put the FF standard start on it. It pushed, just wouldn't turn in as I wanted it. Played with the LSD as you say in "beginning tuner" and what a difference. For me its now an FF monster in its class. You are so right in what you say about the LSD.

It has given GT5 a new lease of life. It is so much fun getting a car to behave how you want it to.

Again many thanks for the "manuals" easy to read and fairly easy to understand even for someone like me. Many Thanks.

We can do that sometime, that would be cool. I haven't done much NASCAR of late tho. Been focusing on the tt's. Working on Spa right now. Got a killer tune going on for my Speed 8. Its posted in the tt thread if you want to check it out. Peace.

I have been playing with LeMans cars alot over the last couple of weeks. Trying to develop online tunes for all of them. I don't see too many rooms open on the weekends using these cars so I thought I would start some on my own. Would like to mix it up with dry and wet races.

I don't think that PD was fair to the car when programming it's handling abilities. I get the feeling that it was assigned to a jr programmer who has never seen a Mustang close up. He has heard that they are only good for drag racing and because of the live rear axle, Mustang's cannot turn. Go to a Grand Am Series race and watch Jack Rousch Jr drive. Or pull up any video of Vaughn Gitten Jr and you will see that Ford Racing has been able to find some cornering ability out of the Mustang over the years.

This car was very frustrating to tune. I tuned a couple of versions of it well prior to update 2.2. With many changes to physics my old tunes for this car were absolutely no fun to drive. The car won't stop and it will not rotate around mid-corner. I had to go to the furthest extremes on settings that I have done on any car in GT5. I have only spent about an hour and a half on this tune, so it could still be better. At least, now, it is more fun to drive and starting to approach being fast.

The tune posted below is for Laguna Seca online. It worked pretty well offline too.

This car was built for the 490 PP Japanese Tuner Challenge. This was a tough car to tame. It takes a bit of extra care when getting back to throttle on tight 2nd gear corners. Also, no matter how tempting or how much the gear indicator flashes a red #1 in your face, never, ever drop down to 1st gear. First gear is only meant to get you rolling off pit road - it is not a racing gear.

Just won the newest seasonal with your setup for the 86. I loved this car before, but when I put in the toe and camber you suggested, the car turned into a total monster with grip for days. I used to love the S2000 the most, but the 86 with this setup is my favorite car on the game.

Thanks for all you do. I've tried your tunes on just about everything in my garage and I've been amazed at the improvements with all of them. Even some of the cars I didn't like before are starting to grow on me thanks to your tunes.

This tune is for the June A-spec FR 500PP seasonal on Cape Ring Inside. I was able to beat the Shelby with this 470PP tune, but a more skilled driver can probably go lower. If you do choose to run this tune at lower PP, you may also want to raise the final drive setting to keep the gearbox at its max effectiveness.

I was able to beat the BMW with this 450PP tune, but a more skilled driver can probably go lower. If you do choose to run this tune at lower PP, you may also want to raise the final drive setting to keep the gearbox at its max effectiveness.

I liked this tune car so much that I think I need to take it to all of the tracks in this seasonal. The LSD may need a bit more refinement for the tighter circuits, but it was good enough for HSR.

I had only used the Ferrari F1 cars once, for the F1 seasonal from a while back. During the Monaco F1 weekend this summer, I felt motivated to spend that weekend opening online F1 rooms to tune and race at Monaco. Quite a few late night racers joined me and I was fast, but always 2nd place. Was it the tune or was it me or was it the competition? There was a guy in the room with Senna in his name. He held back in qualifying and I thought I would smoke the entire room, until I saw Senna coming from 5 seconds back on the last lap. If you have Senna in your PSN name, then you had better be elite - and he was.

As for the tune, these cars are odd. You can't think like real world, you have to think GT5 physics. The further I got away from stock settings, the worse the car got. My final happy setup, posted below, turns well, but is pretty stable everywhere except for the downhill right turn after the Casino Corner. It'll get loose there if you are off throttle too much. Camber and LSD seemed to give me the most return in the tune. Other than that, the tune is close to stock.

I just wanted to point out something. On page 9, in the BMW 2002 Turbo '73 tune, downforce is listed as "15/20". As far as I know, there's no front downforce available for this car, just rear downforce. Does the 15/20 mean to turn the rear downforce to 15 of a possible 20?

This tune is for the Wallbanger's 2nd Annual FF Summer Shootout, Class A 405PP. I have no love for this car. It is little, ugly, slow and not much fun to drive. Why did I decide to enter this class? Oh well, I spent time tuning it, might as well enter it. It will surely go to the car crusher or sit in the back of my garage collecting dust after this competition is over.

This tune was built for the July 2012 Expert A-Spec Seasonal and specifically for the Indy Road Course. I didn't take the time yet to try cranking the PP level lower and lower. This tune was about achieving corner speed without killing the DS3 users. If a DS3 user still finds this car too twitchy, turn down your steering sensativity.

If you like this tune, feel free to post your feedback. Let me know how low you were able to crank the PP level and still get the win. I took the lead on the beginning of lap 7. You?
