Pure awesome!

Nice, but were those scissor doors really neccessary? Like owning an edgy Porsche isn't enough, you get those doors and look like you have more money than sense.

Is it necessary for the Peugeot 908 to have the same scissor doors? Maybe, I'm not an engineer.

And FYI, this car will be for racing & testing purposes just like the GT3R Hybrid that raced in the Nurburgring, Petit Le Mans & Zuhai. I wouldn't be surprised if it showed up at the N24.

Here's the interior.

I love that leather seat. Race the ring in style.

What's THAT?

Flux capacitor :D.

To answer the doors thing.
That's how the doors were on the 917 and as they said: "The 918 RSR emulates the 917" :)

By the way I find the car awesome. Porsche's CEO said it has 563HP at 10300 RPM () + the power of electrical engines 75KW each. In total it produces 767HP. Awesome.

Change the V8 for a flat-twelve and it will be good enough for me.

A lot of Prototype Sportscars have doors like that to give better helmet clearance when getting in and out (driver swaps) during pitstops. By hinging the door on the A-pillar you can give better access to drivers helping fellow drivers in and out of the car as well as help doing belts up. A-pillar hinges are likely to be a better solution for ensuring a flimsy door doesn't blow off at high speed.

It is an impressive bit of kit that all bodes well for a production car, and some presumably incredible performance figures that it will presumably put down. Porsche has done their homework, and as it seems, they will be one of the first to make the hybrid technology not only feasible on the track, but one of the best ways to out perform the competition as well.

I say we close down the "Back to the Future remake" thread because we found our new Delorean. :dopey:

At least we won't see crappy movie prop replicas since the car is already the way it is.

Seriously, what the hell is that thing in the passenger's side?

It's like a flywheel dynamo doohickey, when the brakes are used it charges up energy using that flywheel. That energy can then be called upon by the driver via a button on the steering wheel (or wherever) sending it to the two electric motors at the front wheels, giving the driver an extra 200 HP on top of the RWD 563HP V8 :)

Just think of the potential for this. Hybrid technology worth drooling over!

By the by, I vote the 918 RSR the sexiest car of this millenium so far.

Nice, but unlike the technollogy, the styling is hardly ground breaking.

I do like the proportions though... one of the advantages of using a V8 rather than a 10 or a 12 is that the rear deck can be much shorter, which in turn allows a more balanced distribution of the cars bodywork... I often think that some Supercars just look like a cabin stuck on the front of an engine.

The technollogy is where it at with the 918 though... the Hybrid system is the same as used on the 997GT3R Hybrid that was leading the Nurb 24h race with a few hours to go last year in its first ever race. And I read some numbers for emissions and MPG that were astonishing for any car, let alone one with the 918's level of performance.

Rear view looks really nice... overall the design is very well resolved... not too cluttered and quite 'neat' 👍
