By that I mean, if you're as sad as me, you've dismissed a car as underpowered, rubbish etc, just about good enough for the Sunday Cup....only to get bored on Gt5 one day and try it out....and be blown away by what a bit of smart tuning can do.

I have a fleet of Giant-killing machines in my garage that I'll wager many GTP-ers won't own, stuff like the Mazda Carol 360, Vauxhall Corsa Comfort, the '78 Mitsubishi Mirage GLX..

My real car is a Vauxhall Nova, which isn;t in any GT game, the Corsa is the closest I'll get to it. I tried and failed to get any merit (no pun intended - Vauxhall geeks only) from it in GT4 but gave a it a go again on GT5, using some settings from MadFINN's Pug 106 from GT4 (approximately same size and weight, FF,e tc)

Turns out the Corsa is actually a very talented little car. It can clear up the Clubman Cup (Amatuer), win the British Lightweights (Professional) both races of the tuned Turbo Trophy, and just about beat the Polyphony Digital cup (Expert). It also can win the Extreme-level European race. I also imagine the Opel version would clean up the Schwarzwald Liga A too.

Waffled on a bit, but just curious to see if boredom lead to surprises for anyone else :)

For me its my MG TF. Im an MG/Rover fan and whilst the ZR being an omission on this game, the F and TF are lovely cars to drive, very balanced.

Perhaps not exactly what you meant but this was the first thing which sprung to mind

So just so you understand what you are seeing this is the 477bhp Supra Super GT car, before oil change or any tuning with the hard tires it came with and look at the results. Taking on a 900bhp Sauber C9 amongst other power giants in style.:sly:

Another race i had was the Shwarzwald A (probably spelt that wrong) with the BMW series 1 coupe tii. A car with less than 300hp taking on 500+hp cars on the ring. Again without assists, oil change, upgraded tires, just completely stcok. Pretty fun stuff.

Anyway it might not be exectly what you meant, but something i like to do for a bit of fun is to enter events with underpowered cars and see what can be done with them. Sometimes the results can be suprising:eek:

Sort of what I meant 👍

I tend to feel sorry for the underpowered cars so I 'take them under my wing' because I feel that I'm probably the only gamer bothering.

The Citroen 2CV Type A BTW, is actually pretty nippy once tuned....and winning the FF race at Suzuka East by 30 seconds livened things up a bit :sly: Just a rotten shame you can't change the colour of it!

Wow, can you do something with the classic fiat 500?

I always wished there was an ultra slow race in the beginner series which has a collection of the slowest vehicles. Like the Fiat 500, Citoen 2CV, Sambabus, Subaru 360, Midget etc etc

The classic 500 isn't half bad actually - it's light and 89bhp in 490kg is probably a better power-to-weight ration than a fair few expensive stuff. Same story for the VW Bug, Karmann Ghia, Sambabus and Kubelwagen. All of these can be raced competitively across the board up to Expert-level races. The Sambabus can even do well in the Supercar Nostalgia race (I think I came 6th overall at Suzuka..was odds on for 2nd or 3rd until I overdid the last corner..rats)

I haven't had a go at the Suburu 360 or Midget yet. My fleet of fast "slow" cars is already alarmingly big :sly: LOL

I'm thinking of joining the tuners league, perhaps I'll put up the settings for the classic 500 :) . A lot of mine are based on the work of the MAdFinn tuners though, which I then tweaked a bit.

Fully tuned Fiat 500 is awesome fun, as is a fully tuned Schwimmwagen 👍

Wow! Thats very impressive indeed. I had no ideal those vehicles could be so effective once tuned. I thought they were more the sort of thing you just laugh at when playing multilayer games.

I won the London round in the Italia festival on my fully tuned premium Fiat 500F 69 against Alpha 147's & the like. Great fun. Only real battle I had was against the Stratus.

Tuned Fiat 500 on snow is good fun too

Must get myself a VW bus sorted out... couple of mates say it's top fun too.

Do it! Spanking sports cars (and some classic supercars) in it brings many LOLs, plus scenes such as this:

It's all about power-to-weight ratios. Most of the slow cars are also very light. I remember winning my first race in the 2CV (only 61bhp maxed out, but with just 450kg weight :D) that wasn't the Sunday Cup...watching the little tin snail blast by much more modern cars full-pelt through corners is one of the reasons I love GT over all other racing games:

Honda NSX RM. Very Nice to drive, and with "just" 300 kW it can really fly around the tracks. Very Impressive car, and after playing it online today, i fell in love with that car

Surprised in a bad way perhapse. The Caterham isn't bad, just behaves different through the rev range than a Lotus 7 would. Handling doesn't have any faults, but the way the engine makes power is just....well different than what I expected.

Brilliant... love the hanging rear wheel

That's it, tomorrow I'm investing some of my 12 million credits in a tuned VW bus 👍

Awesome :) Just be a little picky with what courses you go on, (city courses, or ones with long straights aren't the best)- and use the mid-RPM turbo not the high one, terrible startline lag otherwise.

Just to give you an idea of the fun to be had - the Bus has won in my hands:
World Classic Car Series
Euro Classic Car Cup
Clubman Cup (You can win by an alarmingly big lead, though Tokyo R246 is a bit of a toughie)
World Compact Car Series
Sunday Cup (obviously)
Schwarzwald Liga A - Nurburgring GP

Other results of note:
Supercar Nostalgia - Suzuka (6th, but almost came second)
Extreme Hall - European Championship - Deep Forest (3rd - set the gears too long)

Have fun :)

oh by the way - you can put US Muscle car-style wheels on it ;)

Im so close to winning Leguna Seca Supercar nostalgia cup with a Fiat 500 but the Miura just is very quick on the staights:rolleyes:

The Dodge SR8 i think it is, summit like that, its the one thats at daytona in the 4th set of seasonal events, anyway i expected it to be a bit sluggish and heavy but i found its acceleration surprisingly good and its cornering ALOT better than i'd expect from amuscle car. I would recommend it for a bit of fun! :)

Wow you must be an absolute beast of a driver to get those results! I might have to try a few of these cars out, on some of the lower class races. That is seriously impressive mate.

I have fully tuned Peugoet 106, Lotus Elan and Triumph Spitfire... they're all fairly quick. The Lotus and Triumph are getting close to 400HP per ton, but a pain to handle.

tbh i think many of the lighter cars will have surprisingly good grip with racing soft tires. The tires make a real difference on this game with each compound giving an extra 2 seconds per lap roughly. Im starting to wonder now what a fully tuned Elise with RMs will be like for tight tracks:sly:

Well done fella , what a good thread this is, i for one would overlook those cars as being too slow to be worth driving, i guess a few engine mods and weight reductions with sticky tyres will do wonders for almost anything!

Ill be sure to have a go at some point meddling with my slow cars both standard and premium,
anyone tried the Cappucino RM yet?

Love the idea of the pimped hippy bus !

gonna stick some dubs on mine lol
