One way you can change your PSN screen name which I don't know if the option still exists if you create a Japanese ID. Under the account management, your allowed to ID change I believe once or something. I did this back when Ridge Racer 7 was just out playing against everyone on the PSN Forums.

I'm right in saying that you can't change a NA PSN to a Japanese one to access this feature though?

Yeah, that is impossible. You would have to create another PSN account and use a fake address in Japan in order to get it done.

As of now it's limited to Japanese PSN accounts which is just stupid. But otherwise your just goign to have to start again. Hopefully they let us change it at some stage even if you had to have PS+ or something along those lines...

The save is tied to the PS3 user profile name, not the PSN account name.

Try creating a new user profile (we'll call it Profile-A) on the PS3, then playing the game on that profile without associating a PSN account. *GASP!* It works. Now set up that user profile with your already existing PSN account (we'll call it account-A). *GASP!* It still works. Try copying that save to a flash drive, then restoring to a different user profile (Profile-B) with the same PSN account (Accounte-A) as the one just used. *GASP!* It doesn't work. Try using a different PSN account (Account-B) while still on Profile-A. *GASP!* It works.

Are there any flaws with the following in order to change PSN name...

1. Save a backup of my current game under my current PS3 user ("User1")
2. Delete my User1 account
3. Create a new account with the user "User1" (yes the username is the same as the account I just deleted so that I can restore my backup)
4. Restore the backup to the new "User1" account
5. Create a new PSN under the new "User1" with a different PSN name

Will this work? If not, why?

(I understand that any achievements such as trophies will be lost).

If you contact Sony Customer Support (assumingly because you can't recover your account PW due to using a bogus email addy) they will ask you for all of your sign on information (even the bogus email), your PS serial number, your phone and a valid email...they will then change the email address from the bogus one to the valid email, and update your account so you can reclaim your lost account.

GT5 game saves are tied to the specific account. Cant transfer saves even between saves on same ps3.

The purpose of my post was to change PSN name, not to reclaim a lost account.

If I have a PS3 (not PSN) account "User1", delete it, then create a new account with the same username "User1" - are these considered to be the same account or different?

I believe that deleting the account will delete the local save information too.

Deleting from your PS3 does NOT equal deleting from PSN, I'm not sure if that's even possible. All you'd be doing when you re-make the account on your PS3 is linking to the existing User1 account at PSN... unless you run the account offline in perpetuity.

I don't need to delete/destroy my PSN. I just want to not use it anymore and create a new PSN with a new name which I can use with my current PS3 account.

I might test it with a secondary account if I can be bothered....

I have a better solution. I just thought about it with all the Welcome Back stuff that is going on.

1/ Login to your PSN online and change your password. This will ensure you cannot sign in to your account and then PS3 will ask for your login credentials.
2/ Create a new NEW PSN (online or on PS3).
3/ Login using your NEW PSN on your existing PS3.

I can't see why this won't work and I am going to test it out and report back. All saved data is tied to the PS3 account (NOT the PSN account), so the only thing you would lose is your friends list (which isn't a big deal if you're not popular

)

You can do it, but you had better have a damn good reason for doing so. A friend of mine created his original account with a questionable username, one that PSN wasn't too fond of. It got closed down. He lost everything in terms of game saves and data associated with those games. Started over with new safer name. Contacted Sony about the problem, explained the situation, ate some crow, and wala, he got his original account reactivated with a new name. All original save data was again available to him(he was at like level 22 or something in GT5, and everything that went along with it).
