I salute to an automotive legend. Goodbye Evo!

We will not see a sports car from Mitsubishi for years to come from what they seem to say. So not a replacement either.

Sounds like their just focusing on EVs. Fair enough I guess, but a bummer.

I think it could potentially be very soon when there are EV motor racing series.
So the gap might not be too long.

...and Mitsubishi's automotive division has just gone out of business.

Wow.... :grumpy: Goodbye Evo, its been a blast! :) ---- Randy

Wow I am starting my car driving years next year ,looks like the Future for the automotive world is dull green and to some extent slow :nervous:

And Mitsubishi USA is officially dead.

:sly:

But seriously. I just went back to the Automotive News forum and there's a thread titled "Mitsubishi Will Not Withdraw From US"...

Wait, what? As far as I can tell, the Evo is the only reason anybody has even heard of Mitsubishi, and is what attracts people into the showroom to buy Lancers and Outlander Sports - the latter of which I've yet to see on the road - because they're the only other two worthwhile cars they make.

The Porsche 918 would like to have a word with you, I think. I'm very optimistic that the 'greener future' could have some awesome cars coming our way. But they have to be done right. People just need to learn that the Prius isn't Christ's second coming and that there is some technology out there that can make cars that don't have to suck the life out of you.

Not to start the green vehicle argument all over again...

Mitsubishi makes other cars?

There are tons of new, fun to drive cars on the market, or soon to be released. All good.

In any event, if you're just getting old enough to drive you probably shouldn't be starting out in an Evo. 👍

So true for so many reasons but hey, if he can afford it he for purchase the insurance (my god that would be high), clutch, and repairs shouldnt be trouble (if mommy and daddy foot that bill it would be a crime of the highest order in the court of motoring).

At any rate, no big loss... Ive always preferred the wrx and sti to the mitsu offerings.

I've liked the WRX/STI and Evo equally up until the Evo X. In stock form, I think the Evo looks huge and bloated. But so is the STI hatch, though it pulls it off better. 2011 Sedan FTW though.

Well maybe Green cars can eventually have some joy to them but Cars like the EVO getting killed isn't something re assuring at all .So will Subishy just stick with a regular Lancer and Leave The Impreza STi 👎

Top gear tribute will be like the all midget kiss tribute band (not my thing). Now best motoring, they will do it right. I can see them doing an all evo race, tuned evo race, evo/sti race, and maybe a last of the line race with an rx7, evo, nsx, maybe even a supra. Best motoring is just that cool.

Mitsu still makes some engine components for/with Hyundai. Evo will be missed though. Too bad they can't make another as beautiful as the 9.

My favorite evo is still the evo 5 in terms of appearance. For performance Im not sure which was fastest but I would think it was 10.

Who were the ad wizards who came up with THAT one? [/Seinfeld]

Well, there goes the American market, Mitsubishi. I mean, sure, the existence of the Lancer Ralliart almost completely negates the need for the Evolution in a strange way, but that doesn't make this idea any better. Granted, I got to know the Evolution much later than most folks, but the VII-IX were amazing vehicles.

Simply put, by putting everything they held dear about the performance of the Evolution aside for the Evo X model, well, it was the final nail in the coffin.

I've seen far more Evo 10s than I have seen Ralliarts on the road. That's not to say that it's a bad car, just that nobody wants them because of the Evo.

I disagree. The Evo 10 is mighty popular around here, much moreso than the latest STis. I wouldn't personally choose the Evo 10 with the automatic, but I do respect its performance. It's an evolution, and it works. It's the only thing at Mitsu that works.

RIP Mitsubishi.

Well, there's the last nail in the coffin for Mitsubishi America. Good bye, it was nice knowing you.

I understand the whole thing about the company wanting to go "greener," but why throwaway all the motorsports and rallying history that they've built up over many years just to jump on the green bandwagon. If they really want to go towards a green future, I think Mitsubishi can do a lot more good by making a hybrid Evo of some sort that is also fun to drive, thus demonstrating that green vehicles don't have to be lifeless, soulless boxes.

The product director is quoted in the Autocar article as saying by not making the Evo and concentrating on EVs, consumers will have a better understanding of what Mitsubishi is about. So, my question is, what IS Mitsubishi about, other than making some really crappy cars and the Evo?

I must say that in a small way, it does sort of make sense though. They're going to have to update or replace the car before too long, and if they're concentrating on EVs, putting a bunch of time and money into a sports car might not be the way to go, especially for such a niche vehicle that doesn't sell in very high numbers in any trim.

Nope no sense at all... R&d for a whole new evo only to kill it? Sure, Ive never liked evos as much as subbys but they were the only mitsu I liked at all.

Yep pretty much.

Much of the popularity of non Evo Lancers here stems from the Evo, I even have a friend who bought a new Lancer (non Evo) because of the Evo (made a look a like, silly I know).
