Post here for all things The Show! This first post is likely to be updated with information about organizing any in-game leagues, so you might want to subscribe if you have the game and are interested.

*Please don't use this thread to compare The Show to MLB 2k (no one cares which one you like more, sorry)

Is it out already? I had '09 and loved it but didn't get '10 and not sure about this one. I'm just scared it will make my social life completely disappear. I love this series.

Yes, released on Tuesday. I loved '10, this one is great. They added analog hitting and pitching. I gave the hitting a try today and loved it :)

Pitching analog style takes some getting used to, but I like it. Definitely adds to the gameplay. Plus, this game looks great in 3D!!!

I'm in. Been playing the show since 07. Not too big into leagues unless all those bugs from last year are fixed. It would be cool to play a league a GTP members though!

Have you guys tried the Challenge of the Week? Surprisingly addictive. Arcade-style 25cents a pop. If my memory doesn't fail, the top leader for last week took 44 tries to get that #1 spot. 11 bucks for a signed Mauer jersey and a chance to go to the All-Star game? Not bad!

I got 10 last year, but I hardly played it. I'll still probably get this one, but I probably still won't play it very much. Are there any new features compared to last year's release?

Everything is analog controls now. You can change back to the old way too or use any combination of analog/classic controls.

I hate that they cater to the 2k crowd by adding analog controls but at least they gave us the option to turn it off.

I hear you bro! But EA was the first. Remember NCAA Baseball 06? The show was 5 years too late. I used to play analog back then, I'm trying but online I have to play the old way if I want to make it a game. :)

I'll have to download the demo for this tonight and try it out. I've always sucked at Baseball games though. :p

I was surprised to get that top 33% trophy with just one pathetic attempt.

They aren't "catering to the 2k crowd." The feature is much more refined, and the option isn't to turn it off, rather the option is to turn it on. The standard controls you'd remember from MLB 10: The Show are the default except for in hitting.

In '10 hitting: X was regular swing, Square was power swing, and Circle was bunt.

'11 has X and Square the same, but Circle is now "contact swing" and Triangle is to bunt. Also, the plate converage circles from L3 now vary in size depending on the hitter, the count, and several other variables. It's a great feature 👍

I am definitely getting used to the timing on the swing. But I am enjoying the feature much more than last years.

Also, I just played a game with my newly acquired 3D glasses. Absolutely amazing. The depth and realism on the field is awe inspiring. It honestly makes you feel like your there, staring out from behind home plate. Mix that with the realism that you get on having to time your swings to blast it that outfield that seems so far away. Very impressive.

I have the demo and I played a full 162 + playoffs in 2010 so I know how to swing in MLB 10 and 11. I'll have the full MLB 11 game next week.

Back to my original point - MLB The Show did not have to add analog controls to sell well. The game received raving reviews without it. But if someone's preference was with 2k, which does use analog controls, it would be much easier for a 2k fan to switch to The Show if the control scheme was similiar. So from a business standpoint, it makes sense for them to cater to the 2k crowd.

I'm not against the 2k crowd and it's probably good for everyone to have options, but I personally hate the analog controls. After playing as many games as I have, I loathe having to re-learn how to play the game. When I get the game next week, the first thing I'm doing is going to the options and turning that crap off.

Like I said, the analog is not default so you will not have to turn anything off. :)

I just threw my first perfect game online! I was using the Reds and Bronson Arroyo against the Tampa Bay Rays:

Only analog hitting and I'm still trying to figure it out without relying on GP. I haven't ventured into analog fielding and pitching yet, but I will probably give them a shot if I have a slow day and time to go into the tutorials.

On my succes, I've actually had a few close calls. A one-hitter using Mark Buerle versus the Yankees in NY and a two-hitter using Clayton Kershaw against the Giants in SF. The most runs I've ever given up on this iteration of The Show is five. I managed to throw a no-hitter against the BoSox in Fenway on '10 but I don't really count it because I was pitching with Charlie Haeger (Knuckleballer for Los Doyers last year).

Good job Villain. Remind me not to play you any time soon!

I remember playing '08 back on PS2, and absolutely loving it. I might have to pick up '11 so I can have something to do over the summer months. I'm trying to get into baseball a little bit more, so maybe this game will help with that :D

If you get the game, make sure you add me! I'm always looking for fun, non-quitters to play with.

Got the game yesterday and I immediately went to practice mode to try out the analog hitting. I liked that they had different practice mode objectives. Anyways, I went for "Good AB" practice objective. My first go around I only had two good ABs but then I started to settle in. I'm still not particularly in love with the analog hitting but I got used to timing the back swing, which was one of my big hang-ups with the demo. After a few rounds, I was getting 5 or 6 good ABs a round out of 9. I think 7+ "Good" ABs would be a nice target for a good round.

Question: With the analog hitting should I be using the left stick to "aim" my bat?

Personally, I don't. I generally stick to online "Play Now" with guess pitch, so if I guess the wrong location, my swing (if there is one) will most likely be a defensive one. I have yet to perfect my hitting, it's easily the weakest aspect of my abilities.

The lag online causes me to strike out too much. Adjusting from online to offline or vice-a-versa is a huge difference when we're dealing with the split second timing.

Played a game yesterday against a random. Between the two of us, there were 33 combined strikeouts.

Ouch! Yeah, it helps if both parties have a good connection (I use a direct ethernet cable, so it's usually on the other person).

If it lags in the first inning save yourself the trouble and quit. The game doesn't count until the 2nd inning. Last year they had a ping meter, I have no idea why they would take that out of the game.
