If it lags in the first inning save yourself the trouble and quit. The game doesn't count until the 2nd inning. Last year they had a ping meter, I have no idea why they would take that out of the game.

This 👍. You could also go with "Friendly Quit" but some people are too stubborn or immature (like everyone online game). They think your scared or something.

Funny, semi-related story: I was playing some guy online and he was using one of those keyboards to constantly talk trash and it was super annoying. It was maybe the 4th inning and I had collected some hits and was dominating from the mound, but the score was still 0-0. I knew I had him beat, but it was just annoying having to read his dumb trash talk and he'd make me watch replays of my strikeouts. So I sent him a "Friendly Quit" and he rejected it, following that with more annoying blabber about being scared blah-blah-blah.

Fast-forward an inning or so and I leadoff with a drag-bunt single, 2nd batter is walked while he's paranoid of my baserunner, 3rd batter absolutely crushes a no-doubt blast into oblivion. By the time my runner who hit the home run is rounding third I get that "Lost Connection with Player X" notification. I was rolling for about 2 minutes. Sent him a message that he should've taken the free quit when I offered it.

Mr. Big Talker never replied.

Friendly-Quit is not avaible in the first inning.

Did you get win-glitched yet? At least that guy didn't stick you with the loss. There's scumbags doing it.

Win glitch has been a issue every single year. It's done by either using a lag switch or perfect timing unplugging the cable from your modem and plugging it back in. The cheater can trick the server into thinking your the one who disconnect the game therefore sticking you with the LOSS.

Notice the shadow of the ball. Thats my 3-run homer I just crushed. :D

MLB11TheShow_2.png

I'm sure you are familiar with the next screen.

MLB11TheShow_3.png

Now look at the gamer card. Looks like I won 3-0 right?

MLB11TheShow_4.png

But then look at the game history, I got the disconnect and the LOSS.

This kind of stuff discourages me from playing this game. I hate it hate it hate it!!!

Thanks. I didn't play many random online games last year. I played in a league that almost completed a 40ish game schedule and also completed my offline full 162+playoffs. I used to visit the official forums for The Show and all I would see is bitching and complaining about online so I just stayed away.

Recently, I offered a friendly quit to a guy who was pausing the game after every. single. pitch. but he declined so we ended up playing it out. It was truly annoying. Game took 20 minutes longer than it should have. Anyways, I hit a go ahead 2 run HR in the Top of the 9th and then proceeded to repeatedly pause the game until he quit because screw that guy. I look at his card afterward and his "fair play" rating or whatever it's called is in the 50s - probably because of the constant pausing. If I would have known I could quit in the first inning without repurcussions, I would have just saved myself the trouble.

Hey! I would love to play an online game. Please add me. I will be on at about 1800 EDT. You will see that I'm online now, but I'm at work. My B-Spec is grinding.

I agree about the forums, total garbage. Bunch of little kids calling each other cheaters and arguing about early stealing.

"Sportsmanship Rating" is what your referring too. Constant pausing, intentional walks, purposely hitting every batter in your lineup, typing on screen, disconnects, all factor into it.

I'm at work until 10pm PDT (I think that's 2200 for you) and I have school and work all day tomorrow as well. If you send me an invite there might be a chance that I'll be able to hop on for a quick game at about Noon (thats 3pm/1500 for you.)

That goes for anyone, by the way. Throw me an invite and I'll be more than happy to play a casual game when I have the time.

<---------- PSN ID is right there. :)

Anyone else having trouble playing franchise mode with the updated roster. For example I'm using the Mets. I go into franchise, select saved roster, they load, i go to my roster and it still shows Johan Santana on the starting roster but offline hes on the DL.

Go to Log on to Sportsconnect first.

Download and save the newest roster (name it)

Exit Sportsconnect and find HDD => LOAD => ROSTERS

This should work although I'm going off memory.

Edit: I just looked it gives you 3 options: current, default, saved. Just pick saved and load the roster you downloaded.

You should be using Knight's roster with the full minor leagues.

I hopped onto The Show today and got in a game and a half (second one was another pull-the-plug event from some kids playing co-op) and I noticed that it wasn't allowing us to Guess Pitch anymore. Not that I mind, per se, but I found it interesting nonetheless. Has anyone else noticed this?

Also, HOODFIELD, I accepted your friend request so hopefully we can get a game in soon 👍

You went to Play Now and it wasn't guess pitch? I will report back once I try this tomorrow. What times are you usually playing? I think your 3 hours ahead of me.

It really depends, some weeks I can play more than others. One of the only reliable times I have are actually on my days with the least free time, that being Mondays and Wednesdays. Those days I can usually hop on from Noon 'till 1:30 (it's a break I have between school and work, and not really enough time for anything else besides lunch and a quick round of PS3). That's 3-4:30pm for you. Every other day of the week is a toss-up, because if I have more free time than that little 2-hour window, I'll probably be more apt to go do something productive. :D

If you're on tomorrow morning, I might be able to play a bit before Miss Villain wakes up

EDIT: Just found out that I'm golden for most of the morning :D She's got work.

Ha Ha, Tomorrow morning is perfect, its my day off. My girlfriend does not appreciate the show either.

If I can get up I'll be on. If not we will have plenty of time to work out a game. I'm up, I'm just running b-spec, shoot over a PSN message when your ready. :D

And confirmed no more guess pitch! 👍 http://forums.theshownation.com/showthread.php?t=6662

So after I got smacked around by HOODFIELD, I think the reason why it was so hard for me to make proper contact was because guess pitch was enabled (I thought I had turned it off, but about 3 innings in I realized it was there :dunce:). I played three other games today (without GP) and the ball was flying off the bat, so next time we play I'm going to double-check that setting and hopefully that'll work out in my favor!

Yea, I'm not a guess pitch fan, I mean I don't mind if someone is doing it but I hate that it takes away your pitch meter for a correct guess.
Anyways, much respect to Villain for playing analog so I can't help but feel I had an advantage.

Honestly, I don't know if its a mental thing with me or what, but the analog timing feels different to me online vs. offline. I don't really care to play offline at all, and every now and then you get those laggy games where you have to force yourself to play through.

IMHO I think the buttons work better online.

And I honestly feel like a lot of people are playing analog online also. Thats why I've been winning pretty easy so far.

The whole guess pitch off thing has pissed people off. I personally like it and I hope they keep it that way. http://forums.theshownation.com/showthread.php?t=6797

The video game community complains so much about minutae that I don't think the developers even listen anymore. Any minor change raises a crapstorm of criticism and most of it is incoherent. It's ridiculous.

Tbh, my only complaint with this series has been online play. It's been broken for going on 4 years now, at least. They made a huge step forward this year with the online leagues but there are still major problems with latency. Timing is crucial in a baseball game and when you can't time your hitting and pitching, the game suffers immensely. I'd be a happy camper if they only addressed online play for MLB 12. This is a great game and it would be even better if it played online like it does offline.

I know exactly what you mean with the latency, but I don't think there is anything they could do to fix it besides requiring every PS3 to be hard wired into the router. I've heard dedicated servers will fix the issue also although I don't really know too much about how that all works. I want to say 2K has its own dedicated server but I've never played it so I can't say if there is a latency issue also.

When you play online are you using analog or buttons? Just curious.

Second Perfect Game! This time using Mark Buehrle against the Mets:

(That's 18 strikeouts, 3 looking)

Nice Villain. 👍

Speaking on playing with different teams other than you favorite, I really like using the Orioles, that offense is stacked.

Yeah, definitely. When I'm not using my Dodgers I usually rotate between Baltimore, ChiSox, and Cincy. Sometimes I will pick Altanta or Texas but I feel cheap when I use them. I almost never pick Boston or NYY and if my opponent chooses one of them, I back out.

Generally, I like to let the other person pick first and then I'll try to find something around the same level as their team or a division rival.

Is MLB The Show the only PS3 exclusive to use P2P for online gaming? This is crap. MAG has 256 players online at once with virtually no lag because it has dedicated servers. People who bought MAG did not have to pay a extra dime to use those servers.

The host has an advantage in an online game, too. It's just like COD. The host has zero ping and no lost packets. Subsequently, the host runs around murdering the competition and it's total crap. Same thing with MLB. The host has a significant advantage at the plate. I can tell because my timing goes straight to hell and sometimes the host doesn't even receive my commands.

The US just does not have the broadband infrastructure for P2P gaming. "Big boy" internet can cost you close to $200 a month. Not many people want to afford that, and the people who can mostly don't want to pay for that. They have to go to dedicated servers. For such an awesome game, online play in this series has been crap from the get go. They need to focus on that for 2012.

I like being the host, my internet is pretty damn good I must say. Cable hard wired into the router is my setup. I blame any connectivity issues on my opponent. :D

I have a friend like you spiker, he has DSL. He can not hold a connection, and when he does it lags like crazy. What is your setup?

@Villain
I have a certain disrespect for people that use the Yankees or Boston if you know what I mean, nothing personal but in terms of the show. On the other hand, I like to play those games, I pick the opposite. :D

I hate it when the other person cycles through all the teams twice, and then of course they stop on Boston. One time someone did that and instead of backing out I went and picked Boston, also. It was hilarious.

I was dominating the poor kid in every aspect of the game, and I thought it was hilarious because at one point I was 2 for 2 with Pedroia and his Pedroia came up and Vasgersian was like "and here's Pedroia, trying to erase an oh-fer!" "that's right, Matt. One more strikeout and he'll get the hat-trick!" :sly:

I'm wired up for 12/2 service from Comcast. Usually when I do a speed test, I'm 15/3, sometimes going as high as 20/6.

Who knows what Comcast does to my connection when I'm trying to upload to a host since they've been known to throttle P2P connections during peak service times. Problem is that they are the "best" ISP in Chicago. :yuck:

I have a similar setup to HOODFIELD through Time Warner Cable. They throttle as well. :yuck:

When we played, I didn't notice a problem with the game. I was hosting and that didn't stop you from going yard in the first inning

Hmm, thats unfortunate I also have Comcast, but I never had issues on my end, a handful of times i have dropped connection, but never had a constant lag. And if I do have the slightest bit of lag I'm quitting first inning no shame.

Anyways lets play again Villian, Spiker I would offer to play you too but I usually try and avoid playing people with awful internet. :sly: No for real is it really that bad, I can play through lag. :D

I wish there were more then 3 of us interested in this game then we could have a league or something.
