Special thanks to Welsh-Fury for the idea! He's got a journal going of his 24H Nuburgring race going and appears sofar to be doing very well!

I had made it to A-32 and B-36. Had only done the first Endurance race in A-spec and was going to find it difficult to finish without an in-race save. I did run the 24H or Lemans in B-spec using the Red Bull X1. Didn't think my team would win by 154 laps.

My goal with the previous game was to buy up all the premium cars starting with everything under 100k cr then 100-500k and so on.

I did buy a few cars out of sequence like the Zonda and 908 HDI Mamut. That track gave me a lot of cars to try and have fun with, but it left me constantly strapped for cash to get some of the higher level cars that I really wanted. Figured it was going to take me another 80 million cr's to get all the ones I wanted.

Then I saw OkeyD come out with his Car Prize list and it gave me an idea. Go through the game again from scratch, buy as little as possible and mainly use the cars you earn from Spec/licenses/Special Events. Tune as very little as possible also and see if you can't go through and create a very sizable cr. pool. Once you've gotten most of the way through (A-30, B-30) then start buying the cars you really want like the X1 in the color of your choice!

This thread will contain my journey thorugh the game for the 2nd time using the "Max Conserve Tactic." It'll be something I can go back though and see how it played out!

I'll start when I get off work in about 5 hours and make daily updates.

Day 1 (4/7/11):

Tried to see if I could enter Lic Test and Specials without buying a car. No go
Bought the Celica GT-R 162HP FF. Enough power that I know it'll be competitive, FF because I know A-spec event 2 is the FF Challenge.
Started in B-License Test.
Had to turn off that dreadful race music.
Gotta turn off Traction for each license.

Quick leveling in the beginning.
This test is pretty easy.
The B License is mostly cornering.
Most first attempts are Silver with Gold 1-3 tries later

B-7 High Speed driving lines & Throttle control and B-8 Finding a line through an S Bend are the hardest.
Finished the B-Test in about 45 min.
Current Lvl 4.75.

4 Cars received (Kart, Mazda Demio, Daihatsu OFC-1 and Tommy Kaira ZZ)

Next to A-Spec Beginner.

Sunday Cup:

Typical Opponent Max HP 196 - Using 185HP Tommy K

Results Wins of 5.8, 9.6 and 11.5 seconds
Cr Total 12.9K
Prize: Vitz Euro Sport
Lvl Achieved: 5.6

Found a post somewhere awhile ago that it's good to change the oil to maintain HP.
I change the oil after every event series.

FF Challenge
Typical Opponent Max HP: 222
Using 154HP Celica (Found you can win at almost 100HP deficet. Somebody fix the AI! :)

Results Wins of 5.0, .9 and .132 secs.

Cr Total: 24.9
Prize: Civic SiR-II
Lvl Achieved: 6.7

World Compact Car
Typical Max HP 179
Using Civic SiR 158HP

Results Win 6.025, 5.25, 4.013

Cr Total 46.7k
Prize Berlinetta RS Coupe
Lvl - 7.55

Light Weight K Cup
Typical Max HP 63
Using 61HP OFC-1

Results: Win 2.06 (loss 4th -1.669, 2nd -.116) Win .435
Losses: Tried to take the first turn at Suzuka full throttle.

Cr Total: 62.6k
Prize: Wagon R-RR
Lvl: 8.35

A License

Gold on All:
Tough ones:
A-2 (about 50 tries) Approaching a blind corner
A-3 (40 tries) Cone Slalom
A-8 Tackling the High Speed Schumaker S

Cr Total: 62.6k
Prizes: Nissan MM-R Cup Car
Mazda Atenza Concept
Isuzu 4200R Concept
Lvl 9.55

Notes: A-2 Keep Wheels straight as much as possible
A-3 Slalom. Tried to stay too straight and not follow the rhythm. Also look at the next cone to time it just as you get to the current one.
A-8 That first turn is actually high speed. Don't break turn deep into it.

Other Notes:
Cars can be a different color then the first time you earn them.
Gonna wait on B spec. Cars need to be tuned for the driver to self run. He needs more HP then the competition unless you want to direct him. Not!
Don't wanna spend the money on tuning. Hopefully down the road I'll get more powerful cars for these early B-spec races.

End of Day 1 Profile:

A-Spec 9 B-Spec 0 - 11% Progress - 11 Wins - 12 Cars Owned - Distance Driven 168.8 miles - License A - Trophies 20 Gold - Zero Silver & Bronze.

Moving Forward:
Beginner 5 Events remain only 1 can be run (Vitz). However, Vitz is at Fuji and HP difference is 138 to 83. Would probably get creamed on that long straightaway.

Amateur - can run 3 of 9 events with current cars.

Day 2 plan: Continue License work.

Day 2

Int'l C License:

Not as productive a day as I'd hoped. Probably going to be slow going in the beginning because of the restriction on tuning. Ran Tous France (De La Sarthe) with the Berlinette at 158 HP. Out matched by about 65HP. The real difference was the tires. Ran on Comfort softs. Sport tires would have made a world of difference.

On the IC License got Gold on IC-2, 4, 7, 8 and 9 and Silver on the remainder.

Struggled mightily on IC-3 - Double Hairpin and IC-5 Hi Speed Corner. Made about 50 attemps on each. IC-3's going to take a lot of work and I may never get gold on that one.

Completed with:
CR 62.3k
Prize Acura Dn-X Concept and Autobacs Garaiya
LVL 10.5

No New Beginner or Amatuer events opened by the new vehicles.

Amature Level
Clubman
Typical Max: 252HP
Used Isuzu 4200R tuned down to 215HP.

Wins of 1.288, .956 and 5.929 secs

Cr: 96.4K
Prize Mugen Motul Civic
LvL 11.5

Amature
Tous France
Typical Max :222HP
Used Berlinette 158HP on Comfort Softs.

Made about 20 attempts on Circuit De La Sarthe. Completed 3. Almost any bump from another vehicle sent me into a spin.

Finishes:
12th - -24.959 secs
12th - -22.951
9th - -10.495

I still believe it's winnable with the current setup however it will take a near perfect run. I think the key is to hit the northbound turn in first place. However, going through the final S turns I've been bumped and spun in 1-3 place.

End of Day Two
CR 110.7k
Lvl 11.2
B-spec 0
Progress 16% - Wins 14 - Cars 15 - MIles 449.8

Moving Forward: IB License, Beginner and Amatuer A-Spec events.

Day 4

Int'l A

Decided to be temporarily satisfied with Silver, then go back and go for gold. If close to gold on the first few tries then give it a few more tries before moving on.

Gold on IA-8 & 9.
Silver on everything else

CR: 438.4k
Lvl: 15.8
Prize - Range Stormer Concept
- Ram 1500 Laramie

Amateur
Sport Truck

Typical HP 420
Laramie 330 HP

Discovered that the prize cars need an initial oil change. Twice received one raced it changed the oil and noticed the HP was higher than then when initially received.

Surprised to win Laguna Seca by 1.49 secs

Not surprised to lose the highspeed ring at Daytona (multiple times)

12th -12.46 secs

CR 450.9k
Lvl: 15.9
Prize: None

Looking at the key of where and when and which prize cars are available determined that tuning is going to be a necessity. Not going to win cars with enough HP to compete and win. Not so sure I won't have to buy cars down the road just to get into events.

Spent 3500 cr tuning the Laramie's engine. However, the other vehicles were still bumping and spinning me out, turning me around.
Results:
7th -.93 secs
3 crashes
5th - .299 secs

Went ahead and bought the 17.5k turbo charger.

Results:
4th -2.277 secs
12th - -1.997 secs
Win - .097 secs

Just enough HP to get back and forth into the lead. 5 spd transmission was necessary to use the increased speed from the turbo-charger.

Tot CR: 452.3
Lvl: 16.2
Prize: Midget II D type (Definitely not equal to the race, this vehicle along with the next one won't be used in anything).

Have to start getting deep into Special Events and win more A-spec races.

The plan for turning the trophies into Gold? Not sure. One a day? One every now and then? Cause I don't really feel like doing any more licenses, but I have to win the remaining prize cars.

Got to run some events today! :)

Started Turning Silver to Gold in the S-License

S-1 & S-4 went to Gold and S-2 from Bronze to Silver
Remaining Silver S-2, 7, 8.

Prize: Mazda MX Crossport Concept (looks like an SUV)

Then turned my attention to the highest A-Specs I could get to:

Expert
Japanese Championship

Typical Opponent Max HP 336
Ran with the Opera Performance S2000 tuned to 295HP and bought Sport Softs to put on it.

Tsukuba - Win 1.207 secs
Fuji F - 8th -7.359 (Spun out on the next to last turn in lap 5) 3rd Overall - 115 to 150 pts

Monza - Win 5.944 1st Overall 315 to 275 pts
Suzuka - Win 1.341 1st Overall 415 to 350 pts

They all should have been blow out wins. The car is not that stable and very throttle sensitive. Lots of oversteer, lots of spins because of too much throttle after the turns.

Gran Turismo Championship

Well spending over $70k to upgrade a car to try this race was a HUGE mistake!!! The moment I saw the Motul Autec in the field I knew it was a lost cause. Those cars don't lose to inferior cars like the suped up GT 350Z I was sporting even at 466HP. After the first section I was down 3.6 secs, 2nd section 6.0, 3rd section 10.3. That's when I pulled the plug and moved on to the:

Took a look at the chart and figured I needed the Honda RSC '68 race car to win an event. Therefore I needed Gold on the Int'l B license to do that.

Int'l B License

IB-2 1st Corner Madrid
30 tries to move from Silver to Gold. The key was going slow enough into the 2nd turn to have traction then ease into the throttle.

IB-3 FR Cone Slalom
1st try Silver and couldn't do a thing after that.

Silver Prize: Mitsubishi HSR-II Concept

My previous run through GT-5 I went and ran 90% Premium. This time around I'm developing an appreciation for the Standard cars (even if I can't get a look through the cockpit while racing).

Traveled next to the S-License. Had mostly silver and needed 3 more Golds to finish.

S-License

S-8 Suzuka - Gold on the first try.

S-7 Top Gear - Gold on the 2nd try.

S-2 Trial Mt. (the most difficult, because the course is so technical) - Gold in 8 tries.

Day 10

Sofar so good. Other than the wasted 70k, have been conserving cash pretty good and working my way through. Out of 20 available events I have access to 12. Bad news looks like only 1 is winnable even with tuning. Gotta win more prize cars and see what happens. MIght have to start getting into B-Spec. More bad news I don't have any cars that can flat out win without directing the B-Spec driver.

Owww! You spent money!? I was hopong you would be able to finish it without spending anything.

Figured out early on I'd have to do "some" tuning. The mistake was trying to tune that many HP. Cars really can't change class when you get to high performance.

Good to see someone else trying this approach. I started a couple of weeks before you and am up to 44% using only 6000 odd credits . https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=195874
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=198553 (only details up to 36%.)

So far here is where I see you have used credits unnecessarily:
Tous France: Use the C4 WRC '08 from the Loeb Challenge. A walk in the park.
Sport Truck: You can win at Daytona without an oil Change. (I am still working on Indy)
European Hot Hatchback: Use the BENZ 190E Evo II '91 from the AMG Intermediate Event.
World Classic Car: Use the CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE C3 '69 From the Jeff Gordon Advanced
FF Challenge: Use the MUGEN MOTUL CIVIC SI RACE CAR '87 from the clubman cup
Japanese Championship: Use the ACURA DN-X CONCEPT '02 from the C license
Gran Turismo World Championship: Use the CLK-LM Race car. A walk in the park.

I haven't tried the NA-Roadster or the Vitz race but I see you can win at least one of them without money. That is good to know.

Cheers

Too much of a grind on-top of a grind. Got tired of the specials and licenses. Just wanna race and when I'm not racing getting the Bobs to work on their Spec and earn some cash.

Have only bought a few cars to help level:
Viper, a 70' Plymouth, and a few others.
Not moding any cars other than to buy tires.
I've been skipping races and going to the most cash races when ever a new level opens up.

My Bobs are doing pretty good. They are 18, 15, 17, 15 and 0.
Have only run one remote. However, am looking for remote friends to run a few everyday with and help each other level the Bobs.
Currently at A23, B22.

There are a bunch of cars I want and am trying to make a decision.
Ultimately I want about 4-5 X1's. I know there is one at B-35 and the black matte at Vettle Gold. I'd like to buy an orange, yellow and light blue one as well. At 3 million currently and the dilemma is:

What am I going to use for grinding B spec? The Minolta? Not sure that my fastest car Viper at 830HP can win Like the Wind to get it. Do I buy the 4.9 million FGT? Or do I just wait on the B-35 X1? The other cars I want to get are:

908 HDI @ 4.0 mil
Ford GT LM Test @ 3.6 mil
Zonda @ 2.6 mil
Xanavi @ 950K
BMW Z4 @ 95k

I'm thinking hold the cash, get the color X1 I want at 20mil. Then cash up again and get the remaining list saving the FGT for last.

Any of those cash glitches still out there?

What races am I going to grind? Dream Car, fastest way to make 800k. 25 times for 1 X1. That's about 25 hours About 3-4 weeks of racing. That's insane!

Still haven't figured out the best path to take on my way to purchasing an Orange X1 and getting the other "high-end" cars I want. What I did do is Tune the Viper SRT10 to the max including max weight reduction down to about 1225 kg. With that done went after "Like The Wind" A-spec.

Now with over 1000HP throttle control became more of a concious concern. Also handn't used the wheel in several days. Have been running alot of B-spec using the controller, so I was rusty on "race" steering. Got the wheels in the grass several times on the Daytona Road course and spun it out. Finally on the 4th try put it all together and came out with a five second victory.

Indy however is the tougher of the two courses. You've absolutely got to get the breaking right on all four corners to maintain the proper speed for a win, even with a 1000HP, lightweight Viper. Kept finishing at or near the bottom of the heap 13-15 seconds out. I've had greater success at Indy than I've had yesterday. Gotta get back in the groove.

Also ran a little American Championship with the same results on Indy.

Slowly making progress and a little unhappy that an Extreme level event is only yielding 70k and 52k worth of credits making this journey much slower than I'd prefer.

What did I do for fun? Got the BMW M5 painted a goldish pewter color and ran it around Nurburgring several times! Used the Schwarzwald event to gain some credit. Found that I actually do better and enjoy it more running the controller instead of the wheel. Not wanting to spend the 750k to buy a Lexus IS-F. I know I'll eventually win one. I like racing it on that track on that level for fun and credit.

Finally the Dream Car is available in A-Spec and almost in B-spec. Gotta get my hands on either an FTG or Minolta and start padding the cash!

Day 16

Decided to try for the Minolta again. Already had gold on Daytona in Fly Like the Wind. Needed to overcome that 13 sec gap on Indy. Went with the Viper SRT10 with the Transmission set at a top speed of 225. First run cut the gap to 12 secs. Then scored consecutive 9.5's adjusting the transmission to a top speed of 255 mph. Though I didn't get Gold or even place I did achieve level 25 and surprise, surprise received a 1000 ticket.

That Ticket turned out to be exactly what the doctor ordered a BMW V12 LM! Interesting that it's rated at 830 HP and easily coasted to a 15 second victory where the 1000 HP Viper could not. With that I took on and won Like the Wind and earned the Minolta. Now I have two cars for the Bobs to use and bring in the cash and cars!

Took on the Dream Car Race using the BMW V12, tuned it down to 700 HP hoping to make it a more competitive race. Not! Won the 10 lap Indy race lapping the field. Tuned it down to 650 and 600 for the next series of events in Dream Car and still won easily.

Wanted to take that Nurburgring Challenge of under 7 min using Sport Hard Tires; however, the last event in Dream Car was a 3 lap Nurburgring 24 layout. Nothing wrong with that except it was raining a deluge! My first time doing Nurburgring in the rain! First lap was 10:53 (started with rain tires so I didn't have to pit). Trailed by 25 secs until the final straight. Cut it down to 16 secs when the field started to pit to change tires. Gained a 9 sec lead when the others exited the pit. Having driven the Burg in the rain decided to skip the under 7 challenge for today.

As the car behind me a Ford GT LM passed me I followed to get an idea what the pace should be. Cut :48 off the 2nd lap using that pace with a 10:05 and a final lap of 10:00 flat gave me the win by less than half a sec.

Finally eclipsed the 4 mil mark 1/5 the way to my Orange X1. With the help of the BMW V12 the path has become very clear. Save the cash. Wait to get the FGT on the 24hr Nurburgring race, level 40. Once the X1 is in hand then go after the 908 HDI and Zonda. Once in hand then I'm free to start building my car collection. e

I plan on doing something similar.

I will set up a PSN ID with my wife's information, and start over A spec without putting RS tires on everything. She will run some B-spec races, as she likes to let the pretty cars drive around. Plus she was born in '67, so that could be a good birthday car.

Sounds like a good idea! Good luck with it! 👍

Day 17

Day 17 is all about the Bobs. Of my 6 Bobs fortunately only 3 are stuck in Cyberspace. Hoping they come back intact!

Started the 4 hr Tsukuba Endurance only to get to hr 2 and have the power go out. However, the Bobs did get a lot done today!

MR Challenge, Turbo Challenge, 300km Grand Valley Endurance and Dream Car all bit the dust today! Gonna work them hard some more today and see if they can't start closing out levels (Beginner, Amateur, etc...)

Currently Level 25-A, 26-B. 5.4 Mil in Credits.

The GT Allstars: Wow. Pretty sure I used the Minolta the first time to get gold. Started with the Minolta and Bob Asahara at lvl 24. Unassisted he ran 6th-4th-5th-5th-3rd (R246). Decided to do a comparison so I started Bob Tikkanen (lvl 23) on GT Allstars using the BMW V12 LM. He ran 4th and 3rd in the first two events before I had to shut it down. However, he was close enough that with some assistance he should be able to win each race.

I've come to appreciate the BMW V12. Looks like it's actually more powerful and faster than the Toyota Minolta even with 100 less HP. It certainly handles better. Takes the curves with ease while maintaining near perfect stability.

End of Day Profile

A-Spec 26, B-27

67% Progress, 5.7 Mil in Cr's. 140 Wins, 5.136.8 Miles Driven

Currently running the endurance races with only 3 Bobs.

Day 18

Happy Easter!

Plan to be pushing B-Spec for the foreseeable future. It's into the endurance races. Currently I have a lvl 24 Bob leading the team in Laguna Seca's 90 lap race. Typical HP for the event is 445. Using the Viper SRT10 at 1030 HP but I've tuned the transmission down to 180 MPH tops. It's not a flat out racing course. Very technical and the advantage is in the torque. Being able to slow for the turns and get back up to speed quickly.

I will probably do an A-Spec event here and there as I push to complete all B-Spec events with Gold. Once that's done the B-Spec will be all Dream Car races for cash. That will probably start when I hit level 35. It's a long, long ways from 35 to 40.

Currently 28.5% of the way to my Orange X1. Can't wait!

For A spec ran the German cars only Nurburgring race at Level 20. Started with the BMW M5. The I went out and bought a BMW Z4M and a Mercedes SL-55 AMG. Don't think I've used the Z4 at all in the past on this race, because I didn't want to tune it. Tuned this one to the max about 424HP. It was still alot less than the normal competition in this event. They're normally 520-571 HP with the Audi R8 5.2 always grabbing a substantial lead. The Z4 surprised me a bit by getting the lead right at the turn north. The M5 & SL-55 don't have the same acceleration so I wouldn't catch up until the roundabout.

For B spec finished Laguna Seca with only a 2 lap lead. Didn't have time to write down the stats. Will post before I start on the next events. Will the Bobs do the Daytona 500 tomorrow? Maybe. Can't not yet at level 28.

Day 21

It's been 3 weeks and things are getting to a "heated" phase. Currently Lvl 27-A and 28-B. Started closing out levels with all gold and getting the tickets and cars for completing them. I can see some serious grinding in my future as I work through the Endurance levels. Also hoping PD comes out with the in-race saves soon. I'd like to run the 24hr races but there's no way I can find the time to put 4 consecutive 6hr days together or anything like that. No way I'm leaving the PS3 on that long either. I will leave it on for 24 hrs for the Bobs.

I also need cars to finish the Extreme level both A&B. Gotta have a Nascar, a German Touring car, Super GT (Xanavi) and the FGT. I can probably win the Nascar in Jeff Gordon Advanced. That first test, exiting from a pit is a pain. It takes long to get through the pulling into the pit and changing the tires and leaving the pit. They should have shortened that to leaving the pit. Getting the right draft ain't easy, but I'm thinking that "bump-draft" trick may work. As you enter the track have the car behind you slam into your rear and bump you into a draft of the car ahead. The rest of the tests in Jeff Gordon are very doable.

The Lexus is coming soon. B-Spec Nurburgring 4hr, that's right around the corner.

The FTG I'm also going to wait on and win that. I think it's the 24hr Nuburgring on B-spec.

I feel there's no reason to buy the Xanavi if I have to wait on the other three cars.

Today, I'm going to work at closing out some of the lower levels on A and B; and probably have the Bobs work on an Endurance race while I'm sleeping. Not sure I can get to it though seeing it's level 30 and I'm only at 28-B.

I have started using the Photo mode. Will start posting pictures and videos.

Do I have to use a service like photo-bucket to post pics here?

Just a thought but any thing you buy track the cost and make sure you come out on top each car you purchase.
I've been doing this on an offline profile its tough. Haven't lost money on a car yet and I'm level 21.

B-Spec Grinding has begun in earnest. Lots of updating to follow. Also getting ready to start A-Spec Endurance.

Ran the remaining pro race in A-spec. Started with the Carbon R then switched to the Ferrari 458. Posted video of the La Sarthe race in the Ferrari 458 thread. That's the kind of racing I like the most. Hot and Heavy from start to finish! Lead changes, battling back and forth coming down to the wire!

Bought and Max tuned another BMW Z4M. Added Aero to it front and back.
