Just trying to get other people opinions on what they use and what's best for them... for me I get more of an experience when I'm using a wheel vs. using a ds3

I don't have a choice. I have to use a DS3 until I can get my hands on a wheel.

Likewise, a wheel is the way to go, especially with the physics. From what people have told me, it makes the game so much more enjoyable. Reality is closer than what it seems.

I absolutely love my G27. No way will I ever touch my DS3 ingame again.

Same.:)Had a used G25,shifter broke then got a G27 and loving it.Wheel for me no question.
On the less cheery note there is already a thread on this if im not mistaken.

Give me some $$ and I'll trade in the DS3 for a Wheel.. until then.. DS3 is what I'm usin..

Last time I checked, it was GTPlanet, not CharityPlanet!

Otherwise, I mostly use my G27 for drifting and absolutely love it.

I have owned the Driving Force GT and this is ages ahead of the DFGT.

Recommend this wheel to anyone.

If you map the r1/l1 buttons for brake/acceleration and possibly use the "popsicle" stick treatment...you might have the same control as a wheel/pedals. If not then you will be in the smash X and slam square category...just the way it is. You need some control over braking/ accel if you want to have the control of a wheel with pedals. Im not going to argue with you with a wheel vs a ds3, that would be stupid. I use a fanatec 911 turbo S wheel with clubsport pedals because I love using it with a xbox and computer and the ps3, for what its worth.

Or you could use the analogue sticks...It's what I make due with...

You don't drive a real car with a controller...do you?:P

Not unless you're Will Smith, in Men In Black.

Or me. With my epic abilities at hard-wiring my whole truck to a ds3.
And the setup makes everything for the ds3. Have to put accel/brake on r1/l1, handbrake on square, shift up/down on the left stick(really makes a difference) And put reverse on r2/l2.

I set Soo much better lap times that way. Did two laps on EigerNordwand Short, both in stock F40's with racing softs, and set a 3.17 second better lap time with the ds3.

Been using the Dual Shock controllers, out of economic necessity, for so long that it'd take ages to eclipse my leet DS3 skillz w/ a wheel.

I have my old GT4 wheel sitting around. Nothing sturdy to attach it too, but I was looking at it and thinking to myself how difficult I'd find it to drift in the game. I'd need to set up the shifter as the e-brake and use paddle shifters. Plus it has no clutch, so boring. Plus I hate the sawing noise it makes.

I'll stick with my controller either way in game. If I wanna drift with a wheel, I'll get get behind the wheel of a car and rip that e-brake and power over lil bow wow style.

So here's my deal. I stopped playing racing games back in the GT2/F1 2000 as I just didn't have the urge anymore to play racing games because it's simply dull. Being very young at that time, I didn't know if there is a wheel for ps1. So basically, I stopped playing racing games, ignoring and simply cutting all connections about racing games until I decided to give it another shot and invested on Logitech G27 early this year then bought GT5. When I got it in the mail, I simply didn't have any feeling about it, I still felt that it will not change my view on racing games.

So I opened the box, was a bit impressed on how the set felt 'kinda' real because of its weight. Real quick about my background on driving/racing toys throughout my childhood.

Started with that toy with a shifter+wheel that you just put batteries, turn the key, and the loop of a track appears on the screen (you know what i'm talking about? yes, its old). Followed by matchbox, riding toy cars with pedal, then riding powered toy cars, RC cars, tamiyas with tracks and all, then onto video games, does sitting on my father's lap when I was around 7 on a real car while it is moving and controlling the wheel counts?

So giving it another try is a big deal to me. Opened the box, installed GT5, then the time came. Wow, did I just waste a decade by not keeping in touch on racing games?? Being a very seasoned stick shift driver in real life, I had no problem using this thing. It reminded me how I use to love driving games. So when I see my friends playing with Forza or GT5 without a wheel, I always remind them to invest on a wheel.

So to answer your question, you really have to try both for yourself. I used to love racing games with just the controller, but having a wheel will literally make you wonder, why would you play a driving game using a controller?

Wheel all the way, but not spending 200 euros on a wheel so I'm sticking with my trusty sixaxis.

Wheels are faster, more precise, more fun, and lap times will definitely fall.

Obviously portability sucks.

👍👍

I was thinking the same thing while reading this thread....I got crazy DS3 skills so no real need for a wheel.

Love the story above me. Mines a bit similar. I play video games, always have.. Gt1 to prologue. All the call of duty games I wreck house. K/d over 2. So I bought gt5 and played through it with the ds3. Loved online play and have not missed a single day playing.

So I decided to get a wheel a month or so ago. I was gonna get a dfgt and I have a 50$ gamestop giftcard. So ordering it from them woulda been only 75$. cool.

I start doing all kinds of research on here and the web and start looking on eBay and craigslist.

I get my tax return and imediately see on craigslist a g27 and white playseats. For 550 bought in december. So I get over there nd buy it for 450.

HUGE INVESTMENT, HUGE REWARD.

I am about about two weeks in and getting as fast or faster then my controller. It's so much more fun. Anyone whose on the fence should do it.

I just have the Driving Force GT, but I'm happy with it and will never voluntarily go back to the controller. I need the controller for photo mode and sometimes use it if I'm just going to fool with B-Spec, but I never do A-Spec with the controller. My controller isn't a DualShock 3, even though my DS3 is fine. I got a better third-party controller that I use - a DreamGear Shadow 6.

I just picked up a Driving Force GT the other day and will not go back to the DS3 it's just so much fun with the wheel, altho you will have to learn to drive again as it is so differant especially with FR cars.

i just upgraded my DFGT to a G27 and the difference is night and day. The DFGT is an excellent wheel for the money but the quality of the G27 (especially the pedals) is unbelievable - i got it for £230 from Play.com and IMO i would pay £400 for it it is that good.
My advice is if you can afford it buy it - you will not be dissapointed

ill defo get a wheel one day, but for the time being my ds3 works a treat.

You know the X button is presure sensitive too, so I hold it half way down when going round a nice long corner then press it a little harder when exiting the bend... works for me a treat

DFGT for 100 bucks, cant beat it. Its made the game so much more enjoyable and immersive.
