I am looking for the "best" street legal BMW in GT5, no race cars. I want to know which one is the quickest around the track, good speed & acceleration, and good handling. I have the BMW M3 GTR and I think it's one of the quickest BMW's but I would like to know what you guys think. 👍

I really like the 135i. It has loads of torque and is such a well balanced little car.
The M3 CSL is also fantastic

M5. Well not really, but it is a fun car to drive. I have a stock one with sport hard on it just so I can pretend I'm the ring-taxi guy.

Yes, M3 GTR is fast; one of the fastest non-race cars in the game in fact (PP for PP that is), and I personally find it pretty easy to drive. The Z4 is also fun and competitive in lower PP rooms. You don't see them a lot either for some reason, which makes it cooler.

So it's between the BMW CSL & the BMW M3 GTR! I'll see if I can find a CSL on the UCD and test the both of them soon.

The M5 is nice with it's big V10 but it is a bit bulky which makes it a tad bit slower than some of the other lighter BMW's.

According to this months "automobile" magazine the 1M coupe is completely bonkers and the best M car ever made. Just sayin.

Oh certainly, the M5 would get SMOKED by any of the cars mentioned - it's fun to try and keep up though (sometimes I can manage, most of the times, not), and quite fun to drive if you like throttle on oversteer (who doesn't?)

Jeremy Clarkson quite liked it as well - but GT5 doesn't have the 1M coupe...

The M3 CSL for me as well, it's easily one of the best cars in GT5. The handling is even better than on the GTR, which makes it the "best" in my opinion. The GTR is indeed quicker, but through the corners you'll be smoother.

But that's really nitpicking, all smaller BMWs are awsome. If you want something special, try the Z4 M Coupe and even more the 135i. And if you come across a 2002 Turbo, buy it. Twice. Small hint: that car is Genesis in terms of fast BMWs. And I'm not talking about the band.

I've owned the 2002 Turbo before and I honestly didn't find it all that great but i'm willing to give it another go. Is the BMW M3 CSL your final pick because I want to do some head to head testing between the M3 GTR and the CSL because the two of them seem to be the most favored.

Oh man the 2002 Turbo is sooo awesome. I don't often leave cars totally stock, but I refuse to modify that one. I run it with Comfort Soft tires still, and there is not much that is more fun to drive.

Fully maxed out, the GTR will smoke a CSL.

At the same PP, it gets very interesting. At a lower PP the CSL has an advantage, but right around 550PP the advantage starts to swing to GTR.

So you don't think it would be fair if I fully upgraded both of them on racing softs and did some hot laps on some different tracks such as Trial Mountain Circuit to see which one is "better"?

Between the M3 CSL and GTR I can't choose. I love them both.

But I'll come down like this: CSL in stock form, GTR in tuned form.

It will be plenty fair, but I can save you the time if all you want to see is which is faster.... The GTR is. It's lighter, stiffer, and has a V8.

When racing with PP the CSL can make up for that stuff because of the extra power it gets. Maxed out though, the CSL can't compete.

I've been to busy with other things in game to really compare all the BMWs. However I know for just being a shear blast to drive my vote goes to the M5 '05 with a fully modified engine and Drivetrain (no LSD) on race softs with NO other modifications. The stock suspension is surprisingly good, possibly the best in the game, and even with the race softs you have to have good throttle control or its like driving a superheavyweight yellowbird. Watch your throttle control and that big barge just floats around the track and while I've never tested its top speed 175 mph without a draft on the Supercar Eifel straight is nothing to complain about.:sly:

Yeah I do love the V10 like I mentioned earlier and it's a blast to drive and cruise around with but once you take it on the track it lacks just a tad bit IMO. I just ran a 1:23:417 with my BMW M3 GTR on my first few tries which is full second faster than the M5 which I ran quite a bit which made the M5 look a bit slow but I do give it credit because I run the BMW's without spoiler because I think it ruins the look of the car.

Edit: Testing done on Trial Mountain Circuit.

Hummm I think the CSL for me. The GTR is more powerfull but that V8 at the front kinda make it less balanced than the CSL. I just feel the GTR more front-heavy and well, more difficult to drive.

Both are fast, and I bet that the GTR can be faster, but for me, the CSL is my favorite car on GT5 :)

Well I am very eager to put the M3 GTR up against the CSL on Trial Mountain Circuit to see which one is victorious but I still have to find a CSL. :grumpy:

I've already done this at 540PP and the M3 GTR has a slight edge over the CSL. On smaller, tighter courses, the CSL has a slight edge over the M3 GTR based upon my set up and tests (G27, racing softs, TC:1, ABS:1)

Add me and I can send one to you since I've collected a few to race at different online points. I'll send you the one set up for 500PP.
