Hey dudes. Yesterday night i was spending an hour trying to get into the same game as my friend. We both made servers and tryed to join each others, turned on and off our internets and so. But nothing helped. What can it do? And what the hell is the 717 problem?

I have been having the same problem for weeks now!! It started randomly and I have no idea whats going on. I've looked high and low, but everyone seems to be getting a 117 error not the 717 that we are receiving. I am currently playing around with firewall settings and ports to see if that can help us out at all.
The oddest part is that it SOMETIMES works. Usually I can get about a minute of racing in before it disconnects. (Long enough to pick my car and tweak a setting, if I hop in the race usually not able to complete 1 lap.) Doesn't matter whose game I try to connect to. I have been going through GT5 withdrawal PLEASE help!

Oh!
I am using a cable provider Called Teksavvy, they run off of Rogers home internet lines.
My modem is a MotorolaSB6121.
My router is a Belkin F7B2301 v1.
I am connected by NAT2.

I have the latest firmwares, and the PS3 is currently the only device besides my laptop using the connection.
I don't believe it is because of a slow connection because I get well above 30Mb/s (usually closer to 42Mb/s) and the ping is on average 118ms.
This happens any time of the day that I try connecting.
I also am have an issue setting my ports, can anybody please tell me what "private IP address" should be used? It is a mandatory field when setting my ports. Should this be the address of my PS3? Does this mean I will also have to set it to a static address?

Update: Just had a race with like 14 people and stayed in the game for about an hour so I have no idea whats going on. I did clear the cache, but even after doing that I still had a few that rejected before it worked.

dont know if it acutally works but try clearing the cache....sometimes see a small difference when you do!

Dont post if you dont know.

By looking at your posts, you're obviously ignorant. And with this latest one, arrogant as well.
And why did you post yourself something unrelated to the topic? None of what you wrote is related to what OP asked.
Well done hypocrite!

TrickyD, I also get that error message at pretty much every room I try to join, or it will disconnect after a minute, once I'm joined.
It may be incompatibility between the routers (you know it says something like "NAT Type 2").

Your best bet is probably to ask a 3rd friend to make the room and join his, OR join some strangers room OR try entering your/your-friends Lounge (In the "Community" tab under GT Life).

I tried playing around with my nat type(nat type 2), and tried getting rid of firewall and still, i get the problem, i desperately need help, or PD need a fix, because i can't race online anymore :(

Well guys I've tried all of the above things (and ALL of the things mentioned in the forum post by Alex 3074). I even set my ports and everything. Keeps happening. The odd thing is that again, I was able to connect for over an hour tonight, but then I left to purchase a car and when I came back, bam, disconnect after 30 seconds again.
If anybody has any other ideas PLEASE let me know! I'm dying without online :(

Are your friends also in canada because I tried to connect to a japenese room and it did the same thing so.

I think samie57 might be onto something. It still happens, but seems like it lets me connect more often with people who are also in Canada. It seems odd considering that the U.S. is really quite close physically. (Especially close to the border to the direct south as opposed to someone on the west coast of Canada). If this is the case, this is quite disappointing... :(

Okay so I don't think that is the problem either, trying rooms with only other Canadians and also rooms with a low amount of people with no luck...

I've found these issues also, The most reliable connections for me are with players in the same region, after we all restart and clear the cache. I only race online with NZ/AUS players ... frustrating and limiting to say the least. Given that this is a widespread problem, maybe stick to your region in private rooms. I'm not a tech, this is just what works for me ...

Since last Sunday I have had problems with the servers too. I didn't before then and now I keep getting kicked from the servers. It's annoying because I host a lot of races. I am going to try and do all of the above mentioned and see if that works.

Already tried both port forwarding and also subnet fix. No luck.
I have noticed that during some races, even though there might be 9 people "in" the race, only 4 or 5 actually show while driving.. not sure if this is related or not. Perhaps its an issue connecting with individual users?

I figured it out look up how to change your Nat type from type 3 to type 2 that's the trick, yes it is you have Nat type 3 only hosts you can join are the ones who have their Nat type open, just look it up and do what the video says and you'll be all set

Mstcle323, I've checked that too. Been NAT2 the whole time.

Edit: But I'm glad you got yours working!

I think I've read somewhere before that error 717 pertains to problems in send/receive emails. Might be Gran Turismo server problems.

Out of curiosity, can anybody else having this issue please be a bit more specific about everything possible? Settings, ports, brand of router etc. Would be appreciated and might help troubleshoot. Starting to think it's my router.

Okay so today I couldnt take it anymore and decided to rewire everything and bring my modem and router upstairs and hardwire instead and just like that no more issues. Obviously the problem is with the wireless connection. Perhaps router brand perhaps dropping signal but regardless, the problem is definitely fixed now. Thanks for everyone who suggested fixes, and I hope this thread will help out others! Happy (online) racing everybody!

Wanderd in to these forums looking for a solution to the 717 "incompatibility with room owner" error.

I will try to list everything I can about my situation to see if anything obvious jumps out.

I was using a Zyxel router (ASDL) and had my PS3 connected wireless and had a NAT type 3 connection.
I used to get 717 errors coupled with very frequent "disconnected from server" errors.

I then recently changed to a Belkin N+ router (ASDL) and have now wired a CAT5 ethernet cable from the router into the PS3. My NAT has gone to NAT type 2.
BUT...the 717 errors seem to be more frequent and also the "disconnected from server" errors are more frequent.
Its now got to the point where I can no longer play GT5 online against anybody.

I find myself going from room to room trying to connect. About every 6th room will get past the 717 error only to get the "disconnected from server" error about 1 min later.

After about 20 attempts I may get in to a room where the connection is stable.

But what I have noticed here is that once I am in that room nobody else can join.
I notice people trying to get in, but as soon as their name is shown as "joining room" about 5seconds later there is a message of name "left room".

When I try to set up a private room using my user-lounge and try to get friends to join directly I find they can't join....giving the same messages of "name joined" followed by 5secs later of "name left".

I can not join any of my friend's private lounge rooms as I always get the 717 error.

I am at the point of giving up with GT5 and maybe moving over to a PC driving game, but thought I'd give it one last try to find a solution.

It seems its a common error judging by the amount of search hits on google, but no definitive fix from sony or other technical bods.

My internet connection speeds are not bad....average 2 to 3 mbps. When I first started playing online with GT5 I never had many problems at all. Most rooms I could join with no errors. All I had was the odd dropped wireless signal which mean I lost connection once in a while. So it leads me to think that the internet connection speed is not the issue.

The steps I've tried to resolve the issue so far have been:
(1) cleared the cache = no fix
(2) turn off the router firewall = no fix
(3) rang up ISP for connection problems = no problems on line connection = no fix
(4) turned off and on PS3 multiple times = no fix
(5) reverted back to wireless connection with new Router = no fix
(6) restarted router several times and plugged CAT5 cable back in = no fix
(7) tried port forwarding on previous router = no fix (leads me to think that its not worth the hassel on the new router)

Any further help would be much appreciated.

Could be the position of your ps3. I'm using wireless with the ps3 in my room and router in the hall. I often had 'disconnected from lobby' and I looked into changing the router to homeplugs to wired connection.
But my room has a sort of blind spot in the corner where my ps3 was, even my iPad usually have problem loading when I am sitting there. So I changed the position from one end of my table to the other end and so far, no problem. Managed to game the whole day today without any issues.

Port forwarding did the job for me; make sure the IP established for the PS3 is a static IP outside of DCHP range & use OpenDNS.

Open DNS ?

What is this?

I have an ehternet cable wired connection and the PS3 is using 'automatic' settings.
Its sets the primary DNS to the IP same as the router and the secondary DNS is all set to zeros.

A simple search on Google with this same question.

As many people do,... Port Forwarding or DMZ your PS3. (I port forwarded)
First off, you need to establish a STATIC IP outside of DHCP range on your router,
then forward Playstation Network Required Ports to that STATIC IP

TCP 80
TCP 443
TCP 5223
UDP 3478
UDP 3479
UDP 3658

Playstation Online Game Ports

Call of Duty 3:

UDP 3074
TCP 3074

MotorStorm

UDP 3659
UDP 3660

You can use http://whatsmyip.org/ports/ to test if the ports are open.

Then on your PS3, Manually input that assigned/port forwarded IP
& use OpenDNS. - 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220
(I have my uPnP disabled, as it uses memory)

I've haven't seen a 717 since (& I used to a lot before)
