Welcome everyone to the Season 4 Pre-Season discussion thread. This is NOT an announcement thread, but one that we can use to discuss the new season that could possibly start at the end of January. I will post a new thread for each series once we're ready to start sign-ups. Below you will find some of my notes I have gathered over the course of the last few weeks, as I have planned everything out. Feel free to take what you see, and discuss away!

*NEW*
This is the new direction our top series will be taking. It's made to be as realistic as possible, implementing full damage, self griding, safety car periods, etc. Here's just a small preview of what to expect:
  • Mazda Roadster TC
  • Two (x2) Divisions
  • 28 Total Grid Spots
  • More Power
  • Full Tuning Allowed
  • Racing Hard Tires
  • Weekly Qualifying
  • Self Griding
  • Safety Car
  • Caution Periods
  • Full Damage
  • 10 Race Schedule + 1 Divisional Final
Parts added for new season:
  • Supercharger
  • Adjustable LSD
  • Chassis Stiffening (optional)

*NEW*

Here you will find the new entry level series based off of our old format, but using a new car. Obviously this series will not be as hard-core as the other one, and is more suited for those that have never raced with us before, or are not in favor of running in the top series. Here's just a small preview of what to expect:
  • Mazda MX-5 '07
  • One (x1) Division
  • 15 Total Grid Spots
  • Stock Power
  • NO Tuning Allowed
  • Sport Hard Tires
  • Pre-Race Qualifying
  • Normal Grid
  • Limited Mechanical Damage
  • No Visual Damage
  • Six (x6) Race Schedule

Now, depending on the interest for either series, I can flip-flop the schedules and do one division for HTWC and two divisions for the HDCS. All rooms will be hosted by me (R1600Turbo) and chances are I will not be competing in the new season and will be doing most of the race management, including driving the safety car in the HTWC series. I've found lately I get more enjoyment out of running the whole shebang, than actually driving.

Please post your thoughts below.

Love both, specially HTWC, but how do you plan on having caution periods? The safety car stays in the pits and when there is an accident, it comes out of the pits?

Just parked at the end of pit road and it'll come out when we need it.

sweet.... but what does "self gridding" mean?

Means you park the car on the grid yourself, in the correct spot. Just like in real life. :sly:

"Full Tuning Allowed"
I'm really I big fan of SPEC races, how much tuning will be involved?
"Weekly Qualifying"
How will you run this?

"Racing Hard Tires"
👍
I can't get the grip falloff of soft tires.

"Safety Car"
👍
Will you be driving it? If not who?
"Caution Periods"
👍👍👍👍👍
"Full Damage"
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I'm not sure exactly how does one sit in the safety car and at the same time watches the race for instances where safety car is needed ? Or there are gonna be 2+ stewards per race?

If you want Spec, you'll have to race in the HDCS. Weekly qualifying is done with me starting up a room (or a race steward) and you do a 4-lap qualifying session on your own, with nobody else on track. The first lap is your warm up, laps 2-3 count as your hot laps, then lap 4 is your cool down lap.

I will be driving the safety car.

14 Spots open for racing + one spot for safety car driver + one spot for someone to watch for incidents = Full room.

No...... more..... "hard-core" SPEC???????????? :ouch:  :yuck: :nervous: :banghead:
R1600Turbo
"More Power"
How much? I would hate to have to put a stage 3 engine mod on the TC car... what series will use the TC, both, Hydra, HDC????

Not sure I understand?

Both using the same car. (TC) We'll be starting end of January, and we should by then be able to purchase multiple cars from the dealer. (Kaz says?)

And I'm only allowing each driver to sign up for one series. It's one or the other.

This sounds like a lot of work, RT. What if the safety car falls asleep and doesnt come out? :D

Free for all! I love the heavy damage addition :D

Hard Dog Challenge is for new people, and it's only 6 races. I'm new but, I did all of the last series.
I really do like a high level of competition, but I'm not the biggest fan of "open tuning" races.
You can win with a better car, not being a better driver. And if a good driver (or alien) finds that perfect tune... most don't have a chance.
I would suggest some sort of tuning limits ex. ride height has to be taller than X, LSD can't be changes, etc.

Well then it'll be my fault, cause I'm driving it.

So how's the steward gonna keep an eye on everyone at once? Or is it just gonna be if you get seen you get penalized and the rest will be handled like we have been for the last 3 seasons

You can't limit individual settings because there is no sure way to make sure people aren't touching them. I wanted to make a series where it's full on hard-core real. I know that will only appeal to a certain amount of people, and that's fine. I'm pretty solid on what I have here.

I could make the HDCS 8 races if there's enough interest.

Read the thread! Already been over this. :p

Sounds good 👍

Saftey car if you have someone steaming the race then you could watch what was going on. May slow your connection but ....

I'm guessing by full tuning you mean all parts will be added :)

Also what about having a series mechanic / tuner I'm sure there is pletty of guy's in the tuning forums who would like to be apart of the series. Like each tuner will have their tune of the week for each track or something, hopefully that will stop people being put off because they can't tune.

We'll have a "Tune Center" for people to use.

Maybe one HTWC division with tuning and another HnTWC w/o?

I guess with map on full scale one can sort-of see where the potential for collisions are, or where somebody went into the wall. I guess somebody limping into the pits is gonna be the primary cause for the safety car to come out and one steward should be able to pick it up.

Yeah depending on sign-up numbers, I can switch the schedules around.

There will be one person that just sits in the lobby and watches the race. When they see something they can send a message saying "CAUTION" and I'll pull out. It will then be up to the leader of the race to find me and everyone can fall in line behind him.

Come on Jason you know I read the thread. You're misunderstanding my question. If we're doing drive thru penalties etc how can one person possibly keep an eye on everyone. In real life they have a steward at every corner.

I also don't see a way to implement drive-through penalties for anything other than passing under caution (and maybe not yielding when being lapped) with just one steward.

Also, what happens if a pace-car driver or a steward is disconnected from the room? Crazy idea: randomly designate a person from the drivers who must stop racing and assume duties.

I'm not sure I follow lol, like someone will help you tune ?

I'll just have a post in the OP where I can post tunes for people to use. ;)

It's two people. And who said anything about drive-through penalties?

and hey listen up, we need to support Jason fully on this one so let's keep brainstorming to make sure this AMAZING IDEA WTF MAN I SO EXCITE ;_; for a series gets executed properly.

FIRST! I believe I have a solution for the whole, "one steward one pace driver" thing.

You don't need a pace car. The race leader can simply drive as the pace car himself. I've seen this work extremely well in a Forza Evora series I was in and it makes it so you don't need to waste a spot on the grid, we were racing 16 full and still doing cautions, pace laps, etc.

So that's that, then there can be two stewards to catch all the action. But those two stewards would really need to have a good way of keeping in communication with eachother, possibly over Skype.

Because all the stewards would need to be doing is watch out for collisions bad enough to call out the "safety car" (meaning the leader would slow down to a pre-determined speed, and this also means people will be pitting at these times so you'll have the rule of whoever's in front acting as safety car. But also... how will coming back into order from the pits work, the race leader would simply take back his lead right? and people will be able to unlap themselves or no?) right? It would be pretty hard to actually catch people in the act of causing a collision so that would be a really touchy thing to try and call penalties on track... but it is doable. what about having 3 dedicated stewards? I know Denilson would volunteer and a few others, possibly the 3D3 guys. That would make it only 13 drivers but I think... that might be the way to go... think about it.

But I absolutely ADORE everything about the new features man, way to freaking go. There's no way I'm missing a fraction of this series.

btw the logo's simply cool as well 👍

I would still like to keep the pace car for realism sake.

I don't want to be calling out a safety car period for every incident, only ones that involve multiple cars where one or two may get spun around and or pushed into the gravel trap. I thought about having the driver who was most involved to press pause and type "CAUTION", but I don't want every driver doing that for every little thing that happens. It's just going to take some effort from the person watching the race to make sure they keep track of everyone.

We've got some time to work this out, but I don't want to change things too much from the way I have them now.

Honestly, I love all these ideas but it seems just too much. It will be hard to keep track of everything. If you can handle it, great for you RT and if you need help, I'll be able to provide it. 👍

We REALLY have to trust each other well, and make sure everyone follows the rules. Assuming, we will have new drivers coming in, it is very important to let them understand all the procedures. But this is an amazing format, I just dont think this will work flawlessly, if you know what I mean.

Well I think if F1 worked flawlessly I would stop watching it Nep know what I mean?
