I'm suprised there isn't a thread already on this seeing as it's being launched today.

Is anyone looking forward to it? What do you want to see added to the new phone?

Rumors I've heared so far are a bigger screen (taller but not wider), more memory, a better processor, and a new cable interface.

What I'm looking forward too is Samsung sueing their ass as soon as the iPhone 5 is revealed.

I'm looking forward to it. I'm out of contract on my iPhone 4, and I don't really want to "upgrade" to a 4S.

I'm a bit hacked off about the change to the dock connector since I have a bunch of devices that I connect it to, but it's not the end of the world and I'm sure there will be adaptors almost straight away. I hope that they don't mess with the Bluetooth connectivity too much, because I'd be annoyed if my cars won't connect to it. I'd like a 64GB option, and better dynamic range control & faster performance on the camera.

And whilst I'm not that bothered by it now, I think that in 2 years I'm really going to want NFC, so it needs to support that.

Im very much so looking forward to it.. Only because it means that I get to upgrade from my mums old iPhone 3 to her now 'old' iPhone 4s! YAAY!

I'm in the same situation to Giles. I'm out of contract by 3 months on my iPhone 4 so I will be upgrading as soon as I can to the 5. I dont have any needs as far as hardware but better battery and better camera is a plus.

Would get it but I still have 5 more months on my contact. But I can wait. I'm still happy with the iPhone 4.

I wish Apple would release better software for the ipod classic so it wouldnt lose 15% of tracks.... and when you have 6000+ songs 15% is quite a bit haha

Pretty big let down, just a taller screen, a bit thinner and slightly more oomph. No revolution.

So it doesn't even have the biggest screen in its class  The S3 doesn't really have anything to worry about but I guess Apple realised people will buy anything so they didn't bother all that much.

Fixed that for you. :p

 Granted the S3 is slightly HUGE and more like a small tablet attached to your head but still at least its got the leading edge tech.

Apple hasn't innovated with the iPhone since the first one.

If it doesn't have 4G yet I will seriously wonder why people still buy iphones.

What a letdown, the specs might be good but the design is so disapointing, normaly Apple stuff are pretty cool but that design is just too similar to the old one, me dont like it.

Lol this is pretty much the only iPhone that is actually physically different. The 3 and 4 are the same thing just ones rounder and the other more square. This one is actually bigger, thinner, buttons like headphone jack is moved as well as new usb connector. The headphones themselves are finally physically differen, even itunes will be totally different. Really tho every tablet and new phone all look the same. It's a touch screen that has to be a usable device. You can't really get crazy by making it a circle shape or something since it won't fit into people's hands or pockets. Plus most people don't even care and will never see the actual phone since they put it in a case right away. Cases are where you can show your personality. The black and white versions of it the back is slightly different as well. White is aluminum while black was something else. Either way I will get this phone when it comes out and tell you guys if it sucks or not. I don't think any other phones on the market kill it and it has a lot of internal power that still isn't being used which will be great for future apps and OS'.

Why am I not suprised this turned into a iPhone vs. Samsung discussion right away?

It's all a matter of taste. In my opinion the iPhone 5 looks amazing, and I'll probably get one soon after it's released. The fact that the display is taller and not wider is genius in my opinion. Easier to use with one hand, fits better in your pocket and better for wide screen videos. The fact that it'll be twice as fast as the 4S doesn't make things worse either.

Also, the design of it is just amazing.

I like the look, screen size isn't a factor for me as I've got an iPad and TV at home. Snappier gubbins is nice and a bump on the camera over my iPhone 4 is welcome. We didn't hear anything about bumpers or anything yet so I'm not sure what cases will be out.

One thing that has erked me though is the port. I only use once in a while to sync (still rocking leopard so now wireless sync) but obviously use it for charging, I use one charger for my iPad and iPhone so now having two chargers is going to be a pain.

I'll be pre-ordering mine Friday in hopes of getting it before I go to California for two weeks. My contact was up about a month ago so I'm due for a phone anyway. Sure it's not the most innovative phone out there, but I've grown accustom to the iOS interface and functionality so it'll work just fine for me. Plus iOS6 means I can now integrate my phone with my Sync system. The size of the phone is a little disappointing though, there's no reason for a phone that big, but I guess it's better than most Android phones which are the size of a small house.

The best thing about getting a new phone though is that I'll be able to tell AT&T and their fake "unlimited" data plan to bugger off.

"Welcome to AT&T, try our unlimited° data plan."

The only "enhancements" they need to make to suit their customers are to buy out Instagram and make that the exclusive camera application.

Is that it, Apple? Seriously? People will pay over the odds for this thing. I'll continue to enjoy my bigger 4.7" screen with the same detail, thanks.

This made me giggle too:

The camera also allows for panoramic photos to be created by sweeping the handset from left to right. The iPhone will also tell you if you're moving it too fast to capture the best image.

My Sony Ericsson C905 had that feature on it's 8 megapixel camera about 5 years ago. Most modern Android phones have it too, they just don't shout about it as it's not exactly a new idea...

Apple loyalists would say otherwise

I think they are making a thing of the panoramic feature due to the 28mpx final image they are going to produce. At least thats the only reason I can think they'd make such a big thing of it...

It seems like blogs are making a big deal about the camera's megapixels, it's 2012 for god sake, are we still infatuated with megapixels? Megapixels are meaningless unless the lens is actually of good quality, which I really haven't seen anything about yet. I am happy it has a sapphire cover though, I'm sick of scratching mine all up.

I also am pissed that it has a new connector for no other reason than they wanted to update it. I have a few old ones so I could charge my phones in mutilate locations without having to bring a cable around. However this new one is reversible so it doesn't matter what side you plug it in with. Like there is no this way up. However they also have a new converter to connect to old ones so you can still use old cables. The new converter is $15 but once other companies make them and eBay etc I'm sure you will be able to get them much cheaper.

As for the camera its thinner and taller which I hear isn't good for quality but apples not stupid so I doubt it will be bad.

I will be pre-ordering it though I'm not too thrilled about the news that Verizon will force anyone who wants the unlimited data plan to pay the full price of the phone, where as AT&T is still grandfathering people in from the older phones.

But, I do like having the unlimited data plan & do use it on my 4, so I'll probably bite the bullet & shell out the money.
