I will be pre-ordering it though I'm not too thrilled about the news that Verizon will force anyone who wants the unlimited data plan to pay the full price of the phone, where as AT&T is still grandfathering people in from the older phones.

But, I do like having the unlimited data plan & do use it on my 4, so I'll probably bite the bullet & shell out the money.

Sprint has unlimited data too, I'm pretty sure I'm switching to them.

Everyone should know that Apple's product does not support regular sim cards. Good luck moving your contact information. You better hope that the iphone 6 does not come out with a pico-sim!

People keep their contact information on a SIM card with a smart phone? I haven't had my contacts saved to my SIM since I owned a flip phone 6 years ago. I just use my GMail as a exchange server and get all my contacts that way, I'll never lose them.

I migrated all of mine by hand, good way of pruning out people you don't talk to.

I wish it was old sim card because if I lose it I could use my old one. Now I'll have to pay for a new one. However all my contacts are stores on the computer now so it should just be plug in and update. Even if you have a old flip phone you can do the same thing or hopefully you have Bluetooth at least and can send them that way. If you have a phone old enough that can't do any of that than the transfer contacts is least of your problems lol. Have fun being totally overwhelmed by the extreme power of a smart phone.

I have to say it looks pretty good. And it's certainly a better upgrade than the 4S was over the 4. But I think I'm more excited about the new iPods, they look really good. And iOS 6 next Wednesday.

Overall the presentation was good. Literally new everything. Even small things like headphones, cables, sim cards, to big changes like the nano and a whole new iTunes layout. The iPhone 5 itself is gonna be awesome no doubt but I think the problem is details and mockups have been coming out for months now and all they did was basically confirm stuff we knew. Everyone was waiting for some big surprise feature to really wow the world and push this phone skyrocketing past all the others on the market just like some of the previous iPhones did. By searching for details before hand we ruined the element of surprise for ourselves. Made it out to be bigger than it really was and that is what makes it seem a disappointment.

This sums up how I feel:

http://www.manolith.com/2012/09/12/the-iphone-5-is-the-most-disappointing-iphone-ever/

As for Android phones being big, my One X fits in to everything perfectly. My pockets, my hands, and the 'pockets' in my car. I can still do everything with one hand and the screen is 4.7" with a fantastic resolution. Why would I want something smaller, Apple?
The article sounds like a sour grape. Everything new the iPhone 5 is doing is *yawn* & everything the author thought it would do but didn't, makes it a dud. :dunce:

It's not so much about what he thinks it should do; it's about keeping up with other manufacturers instead of simply making it a little bit better. What the iPhone 5 is doing is boring compared to previous announcement and competing handsets.

You know they're struggling for features when one of the announcements is something that Android handsets have had for years; panoramic photos. It's just very....underwhelming.

Just wait for the 5S, like any sane person would do, it'll come with a Hexacore Apple A20000000 chip, and 40 PowerVR SGX543 MP8's, with a 16000x9000px Screen with think-input.

Honestly, let Apple do what they want to do. I honestly like the fact that they'll only use tried and true hardware. Whats the point of being on the leading edge of technology when nobody has anything that'll utilize all that power?

And for the record, the Samsung Galaxy SIII is made for bears. No normal person can carry that damn thing around and feel like they don't have a minitablet in their hands.

The S3 actually fits my hands perfectly and is the absolute largest that I would get. Plus that large screen allows for great touch screen typing. One of the most accurate I used yet.

I actually LIKE the minitablet thing. I'm on my third iPhone (an original 4 that I've had for more than two years), but after not being blown away by the 5, I'm really considering a Galaxy Note 2. I spend way more time reading, browsing, and writing on my phone than I do making calls on it, and the extra screen real estate would be pretty useful.

Plus a 4" 16:9 display is a really pointless idea for anything other than video. It still will suck to type on when vertical, still no screen space left when typing horizontal, and when browsing it's not tall enough when horizontal and not wide enough when vertical. I really don't like 16:9 for anything other than TVs, but at least with a bigger screen you have enough width to be useable.

I've not used the S3 but I can easily hold and text on my One X with one hand and my hands are pretty small! I probably wouldn't go bigger than a 5 inch screen though.

Do you guys have massive hands or something? Anything wider than an iPhone is just too bulky and feels like I have a brick in my pocket. In a world where all electronic devices are getting smaller, it perplexes me why phones are getting larger. I mean do people really watch movies on their phones?

I don't have very large nor thick fingers, but it sure makes typing things out a lot easier. Switching to an incrementally smaller phone, but with the same resolution, a screen roughly 5mm narrower seems to make a difference (more typos). Watching full-length movies isn't something I do much of anymore, but I have co-workers and have seen other fliers that do. At that point, I'd figure a tablet is far easier to manipulate and watch from, or I'd rather be sitting on my couch...as for my phone; perhaps the occasional 10 minute YouTube vid.

Phone sizes will likely not change too much, but since half the population sticks their phone in a purse when not in use, a larger size isn't as much of an inconvenience. But I wouldn't be surprised if Apple didn't start a trend in this direction; if it's favorably reviewed over time, then the industry will shift in that direction. On the other hand, even though tablets are becoming more plentiful and cheaper, the idea of the phone that does nearly everything a tablet can is a portable feature I can live with. I've got a laptop for the serious storage of photos and other data.

My hands are fairly small according to a few guys I've met and I keep my phone in my pocket with my wallet without feeling any bulkiness. I keep it in my pocket at the gym too and it's never made doing anything a problem. :)

👍 I met a friend the other weekend who'd just got a Galaxy III. Whist it's decent enough piece of kit, with a great camera and nice clear screen, for something that you are ment to keep in your pocket it's just bordering on impractical.

Let's talk about the design. I saw some fella who thought that iPhone 5 is ugly compared to the S3. To each his own, sure, but if you think iPhone 5 is ugly I'd say you've got taste issues. Especially when compared to the S3, which in my opinion looks like a bigger version of the iPhone 3GS.

Bottom line is though, that there will always be those who prefer Samsung and those who prefer Apple.

I like the Iphone 3G design, but I didnt like the 4th and this one is just a bigger version of the Iphone 4. I was looking for something different, a bit more innovative.

Ok, you don't like it and that's fine. Saying it's "just a bigger version of the iPhone 4" is not true though, is it? The S3 is much more similar to the 3GS than the iPhone 5 is to iPhone 4. It has a well more refined and exclusive look to it, plus it's thinner and taller. How could they be more innovative without losing style?

EDIT: By the way, am I the only one who really likes the lightning connector?

I have a 3GS right now and it's my fav design yet. I like the slightly roundedness of it because it just fits nicer in your hands. Now looking at it compared to the 5 it seems a little fat. I wonder why they don't make a new brushed aluminum with black trim model to match their computers. I'm sure that alone would of made all the haters not talk as much.

It must be tricky being apple making new phones because their big thing is minimalist. Only putting what you actually need and being as simple as possible. They could of added a super small thick slide out keyboard which would of made the smaller than S3 screen size still be awesome since no keyboard taking up half of it but apple doesn't like button so they can't. However I was actually thinking about this yesterday and I think what would of been super badass is another camera on the side so when you put it on the side it can project a virtual keyboard out onto the table. I seen those keyboards for computers and think it would be perfect for a phone and especially a tablet.

What sucks is I didn't realize a new iPhone was coming out and paid 200$ 2 days ago for her a 4s. We haven't opened it yet so hopefully I can return it and get the 5.

The difference there is all those features Android has beaten Apple to are on a device that feels like cheap plastic & nowhere near as used friendly as Apple's interface. The update times are a bit bizarre for such a "fast" phone & all the customization people tout about comes at a drastically reduced battery life.

I also don't remember people finding the Android announcements boring when a lot of what their phones did was take what Apple had already did & added in stupid features like texting while watching a video.

But, it's Apple, therefore it must either be terrible by everyone else, or god's gift amongst Apple followers; the iPhone is constantly always set at a unrealistically high bar.

The real clanger was changing the port for absolutely no reason. Its not like the 30 pin connector wasn't thin or versatile enough to do what it needed to. People are majorly pissed at all the stuff (cables, docks, car connectors, sound systems... some of which are pretty expensive) that's going to need to be chucked out or modified because of this.

Apple just did it for the lol's and now want to sell you more overpriced ugly connectors and adaptors for things that the device should have built into it (like HDMI, card slots etc). Oh and lets not forget the nano SIM, just because there clearly no room inside that huge metal casing.

Even the Apple die-hards were complaining today, man that's scary stuff

It seems like blogs are making a big deal about the camera's megapixels, it's 2012 for god sake, are we still infatuated with megapixels? Megapixels are meaningless unless the lens is actually of good quality, which I really haven't seen anything about yet. I am happy it has a sapphire cover though, I'm sick of scratching mine all up.

Manufacturers have been bending the truth massively with mega pixel figures recently because they know most people are pretty ignorant and think more equals better when really it just means more of the poor quality your capturing.

My old K750i has a 2 mega pixel camera but the optics are so damn superior that the pictures are amazing and still will beat today's iPhone offerings which still seem to produce the worse pictures out of everything it its class. Apple seem to be pretty bad with cameras.

I guess we will have to see what happens when its released. The shares in most of the components suppliers fell today on the underwhelming news.

My phone doesn't feel cheap and plastic at all, it feels rock solid. As for being user friendly, every person I know who found touch screen phones confusing was able to use my old Galaxy S without a problem. It's very very similar to the iPhone interface (so much so Apple decided to sue them) as there's only so much you can do with a touch screen.

Also, the battery life thing is a myth; unless you run a heap of unlocked apps it won't make enough difference to be noticeable in day to day use. People who are rooting their phones and changing every last thing aren't using the device as it was intended; of course it's going to affect the handset. It's like overclocking a computer with standard cooling!

I also don't remember people finding the Android announcements boring when a lot of what their phones did was take what Apple had already did & added in stupid features like texting while watching a video.

I've never really bothered to watch any Android announcements myself. I just let my phone update when it needs to and be done with it. Texting while watching a video would be very very useful for me though, I'm not sure how that kind of added ability is stupid. It's certainly more useful than shouting about a panorama mode when there are third party apps on the App Store that can already do it.

the iPhone is constantly always set at a unrealistically high bar.

They usually match it though. Remember the Retina display? What about Siri? Groundbreaking features that nobody could match that justified the higher price tag and the hype. This time round we got nothing at all to be excited about and yet the price remains high.

It's by no means a bad handset. The design of the thing is sheer brilliance and I'm sure the construction will be superb as will the interface but it just feels like a bit of a let down to me.

Not impressed at all. Besides faster processer and bigger screen, nothing else. Well except 4G. But that's it.. and the Iphone 4s is already gonna get an update.
