Better late than never...I figured there would be a thread by now, but there isn't. I hope this thread doesn't flop :scared:

Please post anything additional that should be included in the OP, as I'm not an expert on making race threads. I don't always know what all the available media coverage is and even what proper info to put (this is actually my first thread in this sub forum).

The Circuit:

The Race:

Started in 1924, the original circuit was twice the length of the modern day track many of us are familiar with.

1979 was the year Spa was shortened to the length and configuration that is used now (with numerous modifications occurring over the years).

Since 1979, the race has fallen on to various series' calendars, with it currently being a part of the Blancpain Endurance Championship (since 2011).

Useful Links and Info:

RACE STARTS 16:30 (4:30 PM) LOCAL TIME/ 14:30 (2:30 PM) GMT

THAT SHOULD BE ABOUT 10:30 AM EST/7:30 AM PST

*Excuse my inability to accurately convert time zones and provide correct starting times.

UPDATE:

Official stream coverage is limited.

Ooh it's nice to know there are at least 2 other people interested in this! Thought there would be a lot more to be honest.

For reference, 16.30 local time is 14.30 GMT. Central Europe's currently on the CEST summer time adjustment, which is GMT+2.

A post is about to go up on the GTP blog about the race too.

The UK doesn't use the summer time adjustment? I did not know that.

The more you know!

It's half 10 here if that helps at all... To be honest I can't remember the last time our clocks changed. Some time earlier this year.

Completely forgot about this race, glad I found this thread.

Also, first post from tablet :D

We do - but GMT isn't UK time and never adjusts. The UK's timezone aligns with GMT in the autumn and winter, but we move to BST (GMT+1) in spring and summer.

GMT's also called UT/UTC (Coordinated/Universal Time) - or Zulu by military - because it means they don't have to bother adjusting timezones wherever they are. Even on the International Space Station...

So...

1630 CEST = Local time at Spa for the race
1530 BST = Local time in the UK for the race
1430 GMT = Time for the race

Kinda. Because Blancpain - a frickin' WATCH manufacturer - is reporting it as 1630 CEST and 1630 CET and 1530 GMT and 1430 GMT all at once. So I have no idea when the race actually starts.

Which is useful. But I'm guessing, from the various livestreams, that it's 1430 GMT.

I am getting ready to go there now.

Been there the past 2 years, great circuit and always spectacular to see the cars go through au rouge

Incidentally, alongside running the Spa 24 today, Jann's driving the British F3 International support races.

He had what can only be described as "holy crap" in race 1, the car was fixed and he got 6th in race 2 and race 3 is on right this second. And he's running less than a second behind the leader.

I'm now idling wondering if anyone's won a 24hr GT race the same weekend as winning an open-wheel formula support race at the same track.

Edit: He had a nibble and dropped back a bit. He's now clawing back the time - he just set the fastest lap of the race by nearly half a second...

Uhh...

So, anyway, it's on Motors TV in 5 minutes, after the Ginetta race. Not quite "live", as the program touts. Hope they show the race 1 highlights...

If you don't want to know the result, look away now...

On the replay it looks like Jann was measuring him up for a pass and target-fixated - the leader's made a mistake and run wide at Fagnes and Jann's followed him right into his own spin.

I've done that so many times in Gran Turismo

He only lost 5s too - a real Gran Turismo crash :D

I'm talking about the one at the end where he smacks into the back of the winner after the finish...

Oh poo, I switched off too early

As, apparently, did Jann :D

Just a shade under 2 hours then to start, anything especially different with the Spa 24 compared to the Dubai / Le Mans / Nurb events I have all watched this year? Any special rules, joker laps, fixed length pit stops, handicaps for Pro and Am drivers? Or is just old fashioned "Race the hell outta her" for 24hrs straight?

Maximum single stint time is 65 minutes. Other than that, nothing.

I put 15:30 GMT simply because at the time I was typing it, the info (I think it was the Twitter feed or something) I was reading said 15:30 GMT.

Also, why is the video I attempted to embed not working? I'm sure I did what I'm suppose to do to embed it correctly.

Radio Le mans audio has started and the Nissan Youtube streams are starting up. (slowly)
