GTPlanet, hello.

This topic is a variation of my "American Cars" topic under the GT4 category. This time, it's time to let the Aussies loose. Holden and Ford Australia make the bigtime rivalry in Australia. Anyone who seen V8 Supercar Races know how much these cars love to battle. You may not hear "boogity, boogity, boogity" or "turn them loose," but you will see normal-looking cars with big V8s racing against themselves. And if you ask me, American racing in NASCAR-like tube-frame cars is getting older than Fidel Castro. I think the big motor Aussie V8s are incredible to watch battle. The Tickford Falcon (that I now remember I have for Gran Turismo 3) was a welcome addition to GT3, so why not GT4? If Australian cars were to be featured in deeper detail, what would you want to see? Personally, I would like to race the Melbourne F1 track, Adelaide, Bathurst, or maybe even Phillip Island. With all the modifications and additions being made to GT4 before we see them put to the test at E3, almost ANYTHING can be formulated.

This isn't a wishlist. Just want to further discuss a game in progress because I feel that even though a game is not out yet, it is a better idea to talk about a game that hasn't been released rather than not say anything. I mean, that's what I think. Humans have their share of wants and needs, and with a racing game, it's no different. So how about it, Australian car fans? Sound off!

Sounds like fun! Oh, I could also show my mate why the Skylines were banned from competing against the fords and holdens (They kept winning). Pushing any high powered car around Bathurst would be awesome. The could have an enduro for it aswell. Maybe not 1000km though.

I would love to see some Australian cars in the game and have a championship just for our Australian cars. It would be cool to take the R32 for a spin around bathurst too.

I would LOVE to see some V8 Supercars in GT4!. The Tickford Falcon was great to have in GT3 (One of my favourite cars by far) but im a HOLDEN man so i would have prefered a holden. In GT4 i would love to see last years or 2002's HRT car:drool:. I would also like to race around Bathurst and Adelaide although i dont see a very big chance in seeing the V8's really but hey, we can dream cant we?

There are so many great Austrlaian cars.

The most obvious ones that you non-Aussie guys and girls would probably know would be the V8 Supercars as John mentioned.

There are huge number of historic cars that would also be great for GT4 like the GT and GTHO Ford Falcons, Holden Monaros and Toranas.

Then there are some of the more recent cars like HSV's GTS, Clubsport etc, Holden's SS, Ford's XR6 and XR8 as well as the recent Tickford/FPV models like the TE50 and new GT (and soon in production) F6 Typhoon.

But apart from the traditional Ford vs Holden battle there are some other interesting cars that deserve a mention like the Mazda Australia developed Rx7 SP and MX-5 SP (click on the names to find out more ;) )

And lastly, there is one australian car that deserves international recognition. It is the Joss Supercar

I forgot about the JOSS, I love that car. I saw it at the motor show it was so cool!

why the Skylines were banned from competing against the fords and holdens
Because they were 4WD twin turbo monsters built for group A regulations, where as the Aussie V8 was adapted to the group A regs by people guessing at performance levels. For 30 years V8s were the ones to catch in Australian touring car racing and that is what the crowds loved. When the turbos started dominating, crowds voted with their feet. If turboed cars were allowed to continue racing in touring cars, speeds and costs would have spiraled out of control. So they banned them, as they did everywhere else in the world in touring car categories.
I would love to see some Aussie cars it GT4. It would be a nice change to have some V8 Supercars in a game which was made by people who knew how a car should drive in a game instead of the crap we have now like Race Driver and Need For Speed. Hopefully they would also include some of the older cars like the Toranas and Monaros, as well as the old Falcons, and here is one that hasn't been mentioned yet, the E49 Charger (265ci straight six). The quickest Australian production car until the introduction of the VT II GTS with the 300kw motor HSV started using in 1999.

The only thing Australian that i'd have in the game (if you could only choose one thing) would be the most obvious choice; Mt. Panorama. The TOCA games never really did this track justice. :(

I'd love more than anything to take a 600 hp R32 GT-R (even better if it WAS one of the GT-R's which raced there) down Conrod Straight (and the rest of the track too).

I'd also like to see the VX, VY and Monaro race cars. Plus, being a Ford fan, i'd like to see the AU and BA race cars. As well as the road going versions. :)

I knew I was digging for gold when I came up with a topic like this. That JOSS Supercar is SWEET! At first, I thought it had headlights like the Volkswagen W12. I'm sure it can be a contender on the track.

I tend to agree that Australian cars can be as awesome as anything here in the States (maybe even better than in the States). If you want race cars, I say get the black/silver Ford Falcon Craig Lowndes raced before deciding to go with green headlights (unless you think its cool). And for a Holden racer, I'd surely like to challenge a Mustang with Mark Skaife's red and while HRT (Holden Racing Team) Race Car.

i would like to see road going version of the falcon and commodores, instead of just a falcon racecar. id love to do up a xr6 turbo and cain round laguna.

plsu id like the surfers paradise track

The V8 Supercars are a bit dull in my opinion. I'd much rather see the older cars going at it in GT4. Have a 351ci Falcon fly past on the straight only to have the Torana catch up and duck through under brakes.
I'm sure it can be a contender on the track.
More than just a contender.
The following is from this months Wheels magazine.
"A fortnight before the car's public debut at the Melbourne Motor Show, it made it's first public appearance at Melbournes Calder Park, where it completed an initial set of performance tests. According to Thomas, it ran 3.7 seconds from zero to 100km/h, and laid down an 11.9-second quarter mile.
Thomas says the fibreglass prototype's cast-iron engine produces 60-70kW less than that of the aluminium production version, and it's all up weight is beefier to the tune of 90kg. The carbon fibre production car, he claims, will be significantly lighter, and he suggests there is ample scope for improvement during development".

"Thomas is well aware of Joss's lack of racing pedigree. After production is under way, he suggests he will field a two car factory team "straight away" in GTP Nations Cup. From there, over a five- or six-year period, he has a goal to be on the grid at Le Mans".

"Thomas' target weight, with the combination of compisite body and aluminium engine, is about 850kg. That's roughly 300kg and 500kg lighter than the McLaren and Enzo respectively".

"The prototype runs a 6.8 litre V8 hooked to a Porsche five-speed manual transaxle, but a production Joss supercar would be powered by a Joss-branded, 6.8-litre, all-alumunium V8, built in Melbourne by C.O.M.E Engines"

"Thomas says the sinificantly lighter production engine is under development now, with a peak power target "in the 500-550 horsepower (373-410kW) ballpark" He is aiming for a "solid wall of torque" -call it 650Nm- from 1500rpm upwards, with redline at an eminently reliable 5750rpm."

If there were only to be 1 V8 Supercar in the game. This would be it (see pic).

I'd love to have a big variety of V8's. Holden. Yay! and Ford. Boo. Tearing around bathurst :D Going through that VB Dipper. Down Conrod Straight. Oh what a feeling that would be.

Ford was in GT3 so now,I feel ,it's Holden's turn.I still hope both will be in just to race them against each other.

BTW, the new GTO coming out in the US is made by Holden.

Yeah and Pontiac totally molester it with the ugly front grill.

Anyway yes more Aussie cars please but more of the normal stock ones like Commodores, Falcons, Astras, Barinas, Commodore Utes, Falcon Utes. etc As well as the older cars, Torana's, GT HO's, Monaro etc.

That Joss Supercar looks very nice! :D but isn't very special, the desingn isn't that special (1 out of another 100 small sportscar manufacturers), neither is the perfomance. I won't say it's bad but it's just not special.......

Believe it or not, I like the new GTO. I don't think the GTO here is ugly. I actually like the styling of it, even with the signature Pontiac grill (which tends to look like Holdens, even though Holden is GM Australia).

Maybe there are some other Australia-only machines, but for the most part, all I know in Australia are Holden and Ford Australia. I had a chance to see the newer Ford Falcon on a website. And at first, I said that they looked ugly compared to the 2001 and 2002 Falcon XR8s. Now that I actually "studied" this car, I kind of think it looks like the Mustang here in America, starting with the 1999 Mustang. I kind of wondered if Ford's styling went to Australia to make the 1999-2004 Mustang. If that will still tick people off about my Ford Falcon claims, here is a smart reply. The Falcon is very stylish. It is mean without being extrovert. Australia has the right ideas with the Holdens and Fords. It's just too bad their American counterparts aren't doing so well.

I do, however, think that Ford is bringing back a total of three classics, considering the Cobra goes into production, so they may be in for a big payoff. Chevy... their machines get uglier with their grill designs, and my brother absolutely HATES the Avalanche. Only car company in America I like is Dodge. And I don't know of a Dodge contingent in Australia. Anyhow, Australian cars... can basically match up against American cars. That's why I think Australian cars would be a great fit for GT4. If the Ford Falcon V8 Supercar from GT3 is any indication, we can probably expect much more.

To end this one, it would also be a great idea to make a race series based on the Holden/Ford Aus. battles in Amateur, then the Holden/Ford Aus. race car battles in Professional. And who wouldn't want to take their Australian sleepers against others online? Australian cars can be a HUGE asset for GT4, folks.

I think it si great that GM went to the HOLDEN division to get the new GTO.I have allways liked what I have seen on tv and now,in a distant way,can own a HOLDEN.I wounder if it would meet the SPEED CHALLENGE rules?Kicken a$$ in the US with a Aussie car!!!

Holden/HSV. As in Holden/HSV itself is not very well known around the world. If the GT series were to pick up Holden/HSV, The Holden/HSV company would get way more sales. Think about it. GT3 has visually made the cars look absolutely stunning. Almost life-like. EA tends to make mistakes with the graphics of cars. By going to PD people can see how beutiful the cars really are and probably want one. Same with the handling and power of the cars. This goes for any car manufacturer. Seems logical.

I'll admit. I think an American Mustang is still a beast on the road, but the Falcon GT Cobra looks pretty nice. Almost reminds me of a Barracuda (Dodge), in a way...

beautiful is the only word to describe it

I saw an Awesome Falcon SS yesterday. Looked lik ethat only without the racing stripes.

Yeah Ford and Holden are the main Australian only vehicles, We don't really have Dodge here only maybe a Dodge Viper but there isn't really an Australian part of Dodge.

I am thinking that maybe PD could if they don't include the main Aussie Fords and Holdens like the Commodore and Falcon. The Holden Barina for example isn't relly an Australian car its actually a Opel/Vauxhall Corsa in Europe so maybe PD could instead of having the Corsa in Opel badges they could make it the Australian Holden Barina under Holden's section. The same goes for the Astra, Vectra, and Zafira.

Oh and John you say you tend to feel the GTO grill is similar to the Holden variation? To me they are quite different.

Hmm I spose I get what you mean, they both have the same grill space just with the bit in the middle.

A Falcon SS? I've seen Monaro SS, Torana SS and Commodore SS but never a Falcon SS.
There are a few Holdens I'de like to see in GT4.
