There may be a possibility of open-wheel cars to be in GT4. What do you think about the chances of seeing any open wheelers?

I think some Indy, CART, F3000, F3, Formula 500, and of all, Formula One would make some nice candidates to be driven... I mean... DRIVEN down the courses. If you're going to have prototypes in GT4, why not pit F1 cars against them? To me, I'd love to see that. I'd take an F/090s (I'm going by F1 cars in GT3 I have, so I can't say "F/094h") against the Pescarolo Courage. But since the focus of GT4 is to celebrate the history of the automobile, I'll tell you what. Nothing gets my blood pumping like seeing those lovely F1 cars from the 1960s. Heck, even bring in that 6-wheeled F1 car! I think it was a Tyrell, but I'm not too knowledable on F1. Some more older F1 cars would also be nice. That BMW from the 1980s with about 1,000-something horsepower is also cool.

Open-wheel race cars. Would you want to see the open-wheelers return? You can also mention buggies, if you please. I don't know if they were influential in the history of the automobile or not, though. And PLEASE can your NASCAR Modifieds or USAC or WoO open-wheelers! They don't count as real race cars.

I'm almost 100% certain open wheelers will return, they satisfy a desire for cars harboured by a lot of people, and are historically of great significance. I think it was Matra that brought a 6 wheeled F1 car to the world, and the Porsche TAG and BMW engines of the early 80's reached well over 1000BHP. The problem is they'd never compare to today's machines in terms of aerodynamics or weight. They'd be good for some old fashioned races. I'd like to see some of the 1960's cars return, but again we're held back a bit by the lack of Ferrari. They'd be excellent around the Nordschleife, however I guess I'll get told to go play Grand Prix Legends or something similar.

Lotus 18, Ferrari Dino, some of the old Coopers, those would all be great.

Indy cars I doubt, CART has a chance but I don't see it happening, anything below F1 nah.

I've seen single seaters in a GT4 video, but not in-game. It showed you an old McLaren F1 car (1988 the Marlboro liverie or was it an Indy car?) an old Alfa Romeo from the 1950-1960 era, and I'm sure the other one was a forumla Nissan or formula Renault.

I'd love to see some of the old F1 cars such as the Lotus 49, and some of the cars from the late 70s/early 80s (the Brabham with the suction fan for instance). But as for some different open wheelers, how about some of the World of Outlaws cars for rally races? Driving those 800hp monsters would be a blast!

...WoO open-wheelers! They don't count as real race cars.
410 cubic inch fuel injected V8, no clutch, no gearbox, 800 horsepower straight to the rear wheels, immediate throttle response. Power to weight ratio second only to Formula 1 cars. Two tonne of downforce from the top wing. They are as real as any race cars you have ever seen.

It's not a fan powered car, the fan sucks all the air out from under th car creating a vacume and increasing the cars grip tremendousely.

AH thanx for clearing that up, but I was just copying GTXLR....

That car must have been mad to drive, it would have had more grip than current cars, but the fans were banned shortly after.

It won its one and only race, Brabham completely outsmarted everyone and dominated the race.

Swift complaints led to it being banned immediately and never raced again.

Edit: Sorry about the powered thing, I meant Fan car.

Williams did test a six wheeler prototype F1 car - it had 4 wheels at the back unlike the earlyer Tyrell that had 4 wheels at the front. The Williams, unlike the Tyrell, never raced.

I think March also tested a prototype 6 wheeled F1.

having various open wheelers would be nice. i´d like some formula 3 cars, maybe f 3000. the formula renault cars seen in one making of video seem likely to be in the game.
all those fan and 6 wheeler stuff, i don´t know... but the 50´s and 60´s f1 cars are a must. the mercedes "silberpfeil stromlinie" would be cool (not a o.w. though).

Ah... DOH... I do agree though... it is pretty damn sweet...

I want to race the things that Stirling moss drove... that would be sweet!!

C.

Yeti - Stirling moss drove one of those silver Merc's.

I do think open wheel racers have a place in GT4, but they should be kept apart from the normal road cars, like the rally cars were in GT3. Personally I think it's really silly racing against Vauxhall's and Ford's in a F1 car.

Cheers

Jamie

The last pic GTXLR posted of the Brabham Fan Car shows it when it was in pit lane. They didn't want people spying their invention, so they covered it with a dustbin lid...!

As for open wheelers, I'm all for it. But I think they need to revert to HP limits or keep them separate like j8mie said.

The Brabham fan car was designed by McLaren F1 chief Gordon Murray, for a team owned by now-rediculously-rich-F1-overlord Bernard Ecclestone.

The Tyrell six-wheeler was originally expected by its competitors to be faster than anything else ever seen before in a straight line, and nearly impossible to turn. Funny enough, it ended up as just the opposite. The six-wheeler was no faster than competitor's cars on a straightaway, and was very easy to handle in slower corners. This came especially in handy at Monaco, where the Tyrell dominated thanks to nearly every corner in Monaco being a slow corner.

The BMW 1.5l 4-cylinder Turbo's reached 1500 horsepower (1500hp/L!!!) on qualifying boost settings. The Renault V6 of the same year reached 1400 hp. The TAG-Porsche V6 reached somewhere close to 1350 two years later.

Of all Grand Prix cars ever created, I would most enjoy ripping around in a twin-supercharged Auto Union 16-Cylinder GP Racer.

I don't see how an internal combustion engine can be used in any kind of a car without some form of gear reduction...

I don't want Any Open-Wheeled type cars in GT4. But, I would like them in if they were allowed one championship series, one championship series only.

Someone said that the F1 machinery of the 1950s and 1960s are a must. I agree. While I'm watching my 2-hour taping of this year's Le Mans race, basically, all I know is that if I raced F1 cars in the "Grand Prix Legends" demo I have, it would be cool in GT4.

Some of you may disagree with me, but I wouldn't mind Indy or Champ Car rides. Also, people say the F1 cars in GT4 are fictional. Well, they are fictional, but do you realize how similar they look to the real cars? I mean, that F/686 or whatever had in gold letters "Polyphony Digital." But when you look at the similar car, you'll see "John Player's Special." So they aren't COMPLETELY fictional.

Wait... John... Player... I'm no player! How many times I got to say that? I'm a mack daddy! Okay, I should get back to my cereal-eating and Le Mans watching.

The F1's in GT3 are fictional in name and livery only. The F/686 you mentioned, i think, is the 'Camel' sponsored Lotus from 1986. So they are 'real' F1s' only under different names and colours to avoid licencing problems.

Hell yeah, the Auto Union C-Type, 540Bhp in a car from the 30's with a V16 and a curb weight of just over 800Kg's.

Go check out the automotive multimedia links page in the forum I have posted a site with pictures and VIDEOS!!! of the Fan powered F1 cars.!!!!

But they didn't win in Monaco. The Tyrrell's only win was in Anderstorp in Sweden.

Aside from licensing issues, it is illegal for a game aimed at children to have cigarette sponsorship in it.

My opinion on this is that open wheeled race cars should not be in GT. It's not an F1 game. GT cars are road cars. Race cars should arguably not be allowed in, but as they are, (and who wouldn't want them,) they should not be allowed to have their engines/turbos upgraded.

Have you never heared of GT racing, I do believe race cars race in GT racing.
