Open-Wheel Race Cars

Formula One race cars aren't GT racers, but when, why do you think rally cars are in GT if they aren't GT cars either? To me, PD wants to try to bring in as much racing to whet as many palates as possible. Some may not like them, but I enjoy having them in GT. I don't say that in a form of "they aren't GT cars, but they are still some of the world's greatest cars." GTPlanet, I'm a racing ENTHUSIAST. So if I have access to an F1 or any other car thereof, I will race that machine until its engine blows out.

So should they be in a GT game? Hell yes. Where else can you have a series of race cars that can challenge the big boys of GT/sportscar racing? Even if GT can't have exact F1 cars, there should be car models that resemble some of the past models, and it would be a little surprising if GT4 features some of the F1 cars after 1994. Most surprising if it looks into the BMW Willams for this year with its weird design at the front. I would SURELY love to race the classic machinery of the 1950s and 1960s.

Say what you want. I'd keep them. Would you?

The only thing I want to see in GT4 that isn't in already is a current day F1 car, but yeah anything PD puts in will be cool.

If it's a race/rally version of a road car then it should be in. If it's a custom built race car, then it should not be in.

The GT series to me means racing road cars with maybe just a few mods added. Or racing "stock" racing cars with no mods added. I love driving my Oreca Viper but it should not have 1000bhp because the real car didn't. It's not a "real driving simulator" if it makes up cars and gives them more power than they should have.

There's a distinction to be drawn between 'could' and 'should', as most of these cars were conforming to the regulations laid down by whatever governing body mandated the race(s) the car competed in. In most cases they 'could' have had a lot more than they ran with.

I didn't realise cigarette sponsorship would be illegal in a children's game, it makes sense, but does that mean they'd have to change the classification of the game to include such cars?

That SR3 Turbo everyone complains about in regards to the Nordschleife record, that was open wheel wasn't it?

Yeah, they "could" have had more, but they didn't, so they "shouldn't" have more in the game. But this is just my opinion. Everyone is welcome to have their own (but only if it agrees with mine :D )

Actually, I'm not sure of the illegality of it but as of the end of July, it is illegal to sell a scale model car with cigarette branding on it. I don't imagine games being any different.

The Radical SR3 has a closed wheel open roof le mans prototype type body. If that makes sense :dopey:

The SR3 Turbo isn't alone in its design principles. Lot's of other manufacturers make lightweighters that should be able to slaughter anything that comes close in price. Britain has a few different types being made there (lucky bastards) including Caterham and i THINK the Radical is British. We here in Aus are getting a couple of our own, made by Elfin, they are single seaters which are 875kg (quite heavy for this type of car) and have Chevy LS-1's in them making 320hp.

As for open-wheelers... anything but the Dodge Prowler, i don't think thats the type of open wheeler we are talking about but it's damn ugly!

Most any high-end race car is basically custom built, even if it is based on a road model.

And hey, what's wrong with the prowler? I can't wait to drive that thing in GT4! I don't think I'd call it an open-wheeled car though...

Yeah, they "could" have had more, but they didn't, so they "shouldn't"

By that rationale you couldn't upgrade the specs on any car in the game o_O

Don't knock on the Plymouth Prowler, too much. I think it's one of the coolest cars to see on the road a time or two. The PT Cruiser is a nice modern hot rod. I mean, I'm a Dodge person, so easy on them.

Here's my next question, speaking of the now-defunct (based on what I've heard) Skip Barber Pro Dodge series, would you want to have open-wheel racers like the ones from SCCA (http://www.scca.org)? I mean, they would be sweet for license tests or even low-level racing. By the way, the Valvoline Runoffs are later this year here in America. Stay tuned for a new topic in the "Drifting and Other Motorsports" as I discuss this topic. Until then, what about the lower-level open wheelers?

I don't see how an internal combustion engine can be used in any kind of a car without some form of gear reduction...
still hoping for further comments from Schrodes on this
Sorry, haven't looked at this thread for a long time.
The drive comes straight out of the engine, along the prop shaft and into the diff. Sprintcars use a quick change diff so you can pull the back of the diff housing off and easily change the gear ratio between races. There is a lever in the cockpit the driver can use to put the diff gear in or out but once it is out, the car has to stop, the driver has to put the car back into gear and the car has to be push started so the engine can turn over and fire. The rear axle is one piece so the cars run stagger on the rear wheels, the right rear has a larger circumference than the left rear.
I wasn't defending sprintcars because I think they should be in the game. I don't think they should be in the game. There already is a WoO game and Gran Turismo is no place for speedway racing.

Which is why I said this

You get tuner firms that upgrade road cars. What tuner firm upgrades race cars? Race cars are built to a specification that is determined by the racing series it is in. We should not be able to change that specification.

I read that chunk of your post, I just think it's a bit weird to limit what you can do to one type of car and not what you can do to another. To say that a race car is produced to meet a certain type of specification and thus cannot be altered is a bad arguement from your stance, because if we then apply that scenario to road cars, we find that (for example in Japan as I understand it) cars are manufactured to meet a predetermined set of specifications with respect to the power they output (280psi or something, I've seen it floating around in various threads, I'd appreciate some confirmation). Thus we have cars that have been produced to a certain set of specifications, but are subsequently modified beyond these specifications. So if you allow one then you have to allow the other or you wind up with a neat little situation known as a hypocrisy.

As for companies that further tune race cars, I don't honestly know if there are any, I shall endeavour to look into it but I don't hold much hope of finding anything, most modification takes place on stock vehicles turning them into race cars as you know. But does that mean once you choose to perform a racing modification on your car, that's it? You can't alter anything else? That'd be an implication of your stance.

But they are 2 entirely different sets of specifications. Japanese cars used to be limited by agreement, not law. You can subsequently take a road car and tune it and it's still allowed on the road.

A tuned race car would be banned from whichever series it's competing in or be so unreliable it would not be of any use.

Ah, well my mistake then, I didn't understand the topic perfectly and I should have gone out and researched it. I was under the impression there was a law in place, but it seems there isn't, so consider my point withdrawn.

I wonder - do you think PD would actually contact the companies who produce these cars and ask them? You think they asked Toyota "If you had no restrictions, what would you have done power wise with the TS020?". PD doesn't seem like the company to just make stuff up, so perhaps the manufacturers had a say in this?

there´s already a OPEN WHEEL CAR. The Toyota Motor Trathlon car which is very quiet at first (and slow prehaps, too) but which also runs more than 277 km/h(tested in FUJI-GT4P) in its one and only GEAR!!!...would be COOOL if such cars came out in the FUTURE!!!

no it wouldn´t 👎

why?? wouldn´t u drive such a car?? u could take ur GIRLFRIEND sitting on the backseat and could drive 270(!!!) on a test COURSE (if there´s one in ur near)

i´d rather have a car where you can do 270 k´s and sit side by side
(ich hab meine freundin lieber neben mir ;))

bisse DEUTSCH???(jo college!!!...) KM/second??? 270kilometers per one SECOND??? u can´t drive that fast!!!...but i would prefer havíng my girlfriend beside me than on the backseat

Omg

Interesting development, probably a good thing I don't speak German.

' is an apostrophe, for abbreviation, he means kilometres, not kilometres per second.

What's the point of having a chick in the back-seat if she's not topless? Crazy people here on these forums.

On the topic-I think there's a very low chance there won't be any open-wheel cars in GT4.

...of course there will be open wheeled cars perhaps not only F1 cars...but who knows...
Mush...;>

He used a double negative...

I think there's a very low chance there won't be any open-wheel cars in GT4.

Which translated means... There will be a very high chance that there will be OWC's.

Whether or not he meant to say that I don't know... Either way though we already know that there will be at least one OWC. (Yes the T-MTRC)

...what do u think:
will there be f1 cars as they were in GT3
or
perhaps some F1 cars which look (nearly) like a licensed one(so that the color is almost the same ferrari=red)???

okok...then RENAULT (which have one of the best AERODYNAMIC, but some horsepower less)...
can u perhaps change the color of ur HELMET???

KY said in an interview he want's to include things like choosing your own helmet, race suit and gloves.
