Since some people were surprised by GT2 graphic quality, when running it on ePSXe emulator, i decided to make this thread to post some screenshots.

Enjoy :)

I might post more later...

 Guessed all but 2 of the cars correct, even getting what model the Evo was. I was wrong on the Mazda and the RX7. Nice piccies, might have to look into this ePSXe when I have sorted my PC out.

Thanks for posting those pics, I never knew GT2 could look so good. That is just a testament to how good Polyphony Digital really are and how much the original Playstation hardware was holding them back! Even though it looked good at the time PD were so far ahead of the curve.

That's true.
Also, we must say that the ePSXe developers made a great work, even bigger considering it's a non-commercial project, exploring the PC capabilities to render PSX games even better than the PSX.

Another thing is that i'm using a GeForce2, meaning that it might look even better with a more recent Gfx card...

It looks about the same on my GeForce4 MX440, but it uses pretty much the same graphics engine as the GeForce2 MX ...

I doubt you'd see much improvement with newer cards considering it pretty much uses DirectX 6 graphics ...

A screenshot everyone hates to see ...

and a screenshot everyone loves to see ...

:D

BTW, why are my screenshots so dark, but it's not like that in the game ?

I played Prince of Persia2:Warrior Within recently and i had some problems with... pixel shader, i think. I had a warning when starting the game saying it wasn't supported. I could still play it but some pixels didn't looked good...
The minimum requirements for that game include a GeForce3...

I also had some problems in other games with transparencies.

So, i have no doubt that my card doesn't have the ability to show the same quality as the more recent ones. The difference isn't just speed.

On ePSXe, using Pete's OpenGL2 plugin i get an error saying "shader extensions not found" and crashes.
I was thinking in a more recent card using that plugin... what quality would it have?
Can you use that plugin?

You can adjust the brightness for DirectX and/or OpenGL aplications in your gfx drivers, if you're using the nvidia drivers. I think it might be that...

EDIT: BTW, if you equalize the gold time you get silver, you need to beat it... it happened to me :p

Happened to me just now ...

It's bright IN THE GAME, but the screenshots turn out dark for some strange reason ...

The OpenGL2 looks noticably better on my card, but runs at like 25 fps on the menus (60 fps in a race) ...

Do you use the "print screen" key or the other key ePSXe has for screenshots? (Don't remember which one is... i use PrintScreen)

Ahhh ok then.

It was bad luck ... but then I did the 156 - Rome and Corvette - Seattle in 1 try a piece :)

B, A, and I-C in <3 hours of actual play isn't a bad start, especially considering the tests in I-C :)

Should have I-B in another 30-40 minutes :D

That's great!
I took alot more time than that to get all golds.

That 156 Rome was a pain to me, same for the alfa touring car on rome night in the last license... i guess alfas don't like me... :(

Done I-B ... Imageshack isn't liking me right now ... won't let me load proof :p

Yes, i got it from a saved game i downloaded on the net.
It's a nice car, with about the same handling/power as the other touring cars (Calibra, TT, 155).

I was wondering how you managed to get it in the game. Do you know if it is still possible to hybrid cars when using ePSXe or do you have to have them saved in a garage first?

It's possible to use cheats in ePSXe, but about the hybrids i'm not sure... i don't know how hybrids are made... never did any.

I tried some hybrids from the net, and they work but... sometimes ePSXe crashes.
I have JP version, and those hybrids i tried were from a NA saved game that i converted, don't know if that affected. With normal cars i had no problems converting, like that CLK

You have to use the disk for ePSXe don't you? I've been playing some really old NES and SNES games on an emulator recently...and I can't find any ROM's for PSX...May have to hunt around to find GT1 and 2 in a yard sale or something.

Hybrids are made by replacing parts of the first car in your garage with parts from another car loaded from memory. If you can use cheats to get the Merc then I would guess you can do Hybrids.

guys:

i decided not to bother with the PSX emulator for any reason. since most games are over my head because of difficulty levels (have gotten 75% through an old Duke Nukem conversion with loads of Shark cheats), the lack of a proper style of controller (i have a PS style contoller for the comp, but the drivers don't work even for a windows 9x base), and this thing's way underset memory (this is only a couple years old, but it's still in the "high end processor, low end memory" comp style)

only a modern 512 mem and100 gig jobber could run even half of what these programs need.

My PC has 256 RAM and the emulator runs fine (WinXP/Win2k), and not only GT2 but also other games like Tekken and Final Fantasy.
