Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence was shown at E3. Looks good. For the first time ever, US will get the original two MGS titles. No elaborate info was available, but imagine they mean the stories only. It will also feature head-to-head online play!

Watch the trailer here! MGS3: Subsistence

hehe the place where the Shagohod is stored... whats the monkey mask doing there!? haha nice... Mgs3 im still playing it, looking forward to this one!

HOLY CRAP!

The online play looks fantastic. There's a new video and it'll make you drool! And yet another hilarious Kojima ending that involves Raiden. A must see!

New Trailer MGS3:S!

If only we could have MGS: Subsistence - MGS 1-3 with the Substence/Subsistence add-ons attached for those of us who've never played MGS (I haven't quite been living under a rock, I've got a demo of the PS-X version from the Dock to the DARPA Chief) ...

I'm a bit confused. Wasn't "Snake Eater" the third installment? The pics look great, btw. 👍

Yes, Snake Eater was the third game in the Solid series of Metal Gear.

Subsistence is an upgrade to Snake Eater, like Substance was to Sons of Liberty. Basically, it's the full Snake Eater game plus extras like: VR modes, mini games, extra content, and with Subsistence, online mode as well.

Thank you. 👍 Sounds like a great deal. :)

No, I don't think it has the full MGS3 game, this time. But, I could be wrong. The MGS2 game had the full version because so many hated Raiden Kojima exchanged the character roles in Substance.

MGS3:S will have two full versions of the MG games that came out for the Commodore 64, which I had and the SNES. The online play looks fantastic, and so do the story modes, boss battles and VR missions.

Well, it does have the full version of MGS3: Snake Eater and with the new third person view. Duh.

It also features new playable characters in the mini game section. One new character I haven't seen before this new trailer http://movie.thisisgame.com/TGS 2005/mgs3s_tgs2005.wmv is Sokolov. Watch the trailer, and wait until the end for something typical Kojima. By the looks of things, Raiden will be a playable character, too.

EDIT: I'm not going to retype everything new with MGS3 Subsistence, but I will provide you with a direct link, so you can read for yourself. http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/mgs3_sub/

I cannot not believe there were a lot of people who couldn't finish MGS3 that warranted a third disc, and a "Super Duper Easy" level!

Soz if this is a silly question but what exactly is SUBSISTENCE? is it like a VR mission?? based on Snake eater? Is it really worth buying if your PS2 isnt online?
Im getting that impression right now while watching the trailer with Sokolov and Big Boss. Is there another story in this game or the same story as Snake eater but with different options?
I dont know whats going on! :indiff:

subsistence

sub·sis·tence [ səb sístənss ]

noun

Definitions:

1. condition of managing to stay alive: the condition of being or managing to stay alive, especially when there is barely enough food or money for survival

MGS2:Sons Of The Patriots came out, and after that came MGS2:Substance, which was a extra bonus item follow up to it. So, Substance, to Subsistence makes sense with the meaning of the word.

No new info, but I've been reading Kojima's blog almost daily. Well, and much as those horrible Japanese to English translators give us... It seems he's wrapping things up, but it still needs fine tuning.

New Info: Release Date

This game has an official release date, now. It's December 22. Just in time for Christmas.

I can't wait, I really want to play this, I'd love just to do one on one rooms w/sniper battles going on. It just seems TOO sweet w/all the MGS goodies.

How much to go online with this game, if you know for certain? I would need a new PS2, or at least the adapter. I have Verizon DSL and only their modum they supplied me.

All you'd need to go online would be the Network adapter, which retails I believe for $49?

your DSL would be fast enough, as the "broadband" definition per Sony is 128Kb's, which I belive DSL surpases or meets at the minimum.

The service, however, is going to be free, and you have to play online! lol.

On the other hand, you could get a new PS2, but the benifit really isn't there for you, unless you just want the smaller one. I mean, to be honest, I'd wait.

Just a word of *hint* look for the PS2 to take a price drop *around* the holiday season, nearly the same time this releases. You'll be spending $50 more, but hey, you'll have a nifty slim PS2 :D lol.

OH, and make sure you have a router or something, as you'll need Ethernet to connect your modem to your PS2, and I'm not entirely sure if DSL modems have Ethernet connectivity out of the box, or if you'll need a router or not.

Hmm, something like that. I don't care, because it looks like I will buy the new PS2 thin model, and give my old PS2 away as a Christmas gift.

Oh, no problem there. My download speeds are 1,590 Kbits a second, or 198 Kbytes a second. More than enough.

Free? I can afford that. 👍

For the PS3? Yep, I see your point, but that's if Sony is going to World release the PS3 in the Spring, like they've been saying for a while now. But, I don't see us getting it for at least three months past that. Say.... early-mid June... That's too long to wait. A new PS2 at say, $129.99, or maybe $99.99, would be worth a purchase. By the time I get a PS3, nobody is playing MGS3:S. They'll be stuck playing PS3 games, the poor stupid bastids.

That was my plan all along...

The cable in use connecting to my PC is marked "ETHERNET" and is inserted in a connection labled "ETHERNET" on the Verizon modem, and with three squares on my PC. That's the right connection, I guess.

Does the PS2 go between the PC and modem, then?

You can run it through your PC lan card, but it would probably be best if you simply connected the ethernet cable right from the modem, or got a router.

Just for speed reasons, running through the PC can bottleneck it a little bit.

A router, too? Hmmm....

I saw the PS2 Network Adapter in the Best Buy ad for $14.99. I figure I'm going to pick one up when I got get RE4 on Thursday.

New MGS3:S info, the third disc will have a high-definition version of the MGS4 trailer from TGS. But that was for the Japan version, only. No word what we get.

Well you don't NEED a router, you'll only need the modem and the lan connection. It's just easy if you have a router so you don't have to disconnect anything from your PC ya know.

If you do get one, you should rent an online game and give it a shot, I highly recommend Socom 3 or Ratchet: Deadlocked

Didn't notice until now, but you have the wrong release date posted.

Dec 22 is the Jpn release date, with a Q1 2006 date following for the US of A.

damn that sucks, i thot snake eater was the 3rd installment, looks like the current MGS coming out is the better one.
i just bought a copy of snake eater on ebay for $20.50shipped brand new, at first i thought i was getting a deal (thought it was still 40-50 bucks), then i found out it retails for $30!
oh well :/

cant wait till this game gets down to $20 or ill jsut wait for the ps3 and the next mgs...

Dunno, but all release dates I've seen and have been given have been pushed back to Q1 2006. I think it's even Q1 2006 on Gamespot and Gamestop as well. I think IGN has similar.

Pretty sure though that those are the Japanese dates only.

so is this going to be worth buying to play offline? i had both versions of mgs2 and i liked the bonus missions they threw in there. if they can make more i would look into it but if its mostly an online thing i dont need it. i'll jsut get out my old copy of mgs3 and play it again.

It'll be worth it just to play MG and MG2: Solid Snake, as they were never released in the US, and I would assume the translation is MUCH better than the emulator versions.

Plus there's a lot of extra MGS3 content, should be pretty fun.
