i dont really care about playing old games. if they re made them up to ps2 standards sure that would be great but if i want nes graphics i'll go play donkey kong. the bonus stuff in the mgs2 version was fun if they built apon that it might be worth it. i had a hard time paying $50 for it though since i had half of it already.

actually it looks pretty sweet. i might get it if i have the cash when it rolls around.

i did some searching and found some stuff about mgs4. man it looks cool. cant wait.

well, between that (which is worth it, trust me, graphics are not everything) and alllll of the additional content that comes with it, I think it'll be worth it.

Online alone makes it worth it.

THe new camera should be interesting too, I'll probably beat it again just to see if it feels different.

i pulled out my copy of 3 today and started a new game.

i dont have my ps2 online right now so i need some good offline stuff to. so no word on bonus missions like in 2?

It looks like the Japanese will get a special deluxe versions of the game that include a headset. Click on the link below.

http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/mgs3_sub/japanese/index.html

If you pre-order now, you'll get a bonus disc called Metal Gear Saga. Click on the two links below to see what it includes. This disc is in limited supply!

http://www.konami.jp/gs/kojima_pro/english/mg_saga/index.html

MGS3:Subsistence will come out March 14. Price is only $29.99 and $39.99 for the Limited Edition which includes a MGS movie disc that's loaded with over three hours of MGS movies. You'll get the limited supply Saga disc if you pre-order for both versions now. So hurry!

Just finished watching the MG Saga Vol. 1.

It's very interesting, especially some of the info that comes form Kojima. He reveals a lot of information about Raidens origins (where his character design came from...which is disappointing) and about The Boss's character design, which made me laugh very hard, lol.

Among other thigns, they talk about some titles that were just random spin offs that Kojima was not involved in (i.e. Snakes Revenge, etc) and even go on to talk about future things.

The trailers are worth it, and the MGS4 trailer is absolutely AMAZING. Until you see it on your TV it's so...so...inferior. It looks stunning in Progressive Scan, but sadly the trailer is not High Def, and I doubt that it will be in the Subsistence Package either (I dont' even think it will be pakcaged with Subsistence anymore, the NA version at least).

From what I understand, it will come with 3 discs for the Limited Edition package:

MGS3
MGS3: Online
and the MGS Movie

I assume that the regular version only includes the Game and the Online disc.

Both versions (with preorder) will come with the Premium MetalGear Saga disc.

If you have iTunes, there is a Kojima/Subsistence Special on 1up.com's video podcast(episode 9, they are all free!). They show and talk about the game a little bit, and they discussed little bit about Kojima as well.

I can't wait to see my Saga disc, if I ever get a copy. I just saw yet another clip from it. It's available in the link below. "The Legend Of The Laughing Snake" sounded so awesome. It's too bad they didn't use that in the game. Maybe MGS3:Sub will have a surprise?

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6145169.html

Oh, if I do get a copy of Saga. I've been hearing stories already of retarded Gamestop employees just handing out Saga discs to those just showing a receipt they pre-paid for MGS3:Subsistence. One guy already collected three copies from his local store. And, others have heard some stores giving the Saga disc to those who only put down $5. They claim to not plan to get the MGS3:Subsistence game, but transfer the five dollars to something else. Because, the stupid retards at Gamestop never recorded they gave out a Saga disc to that customer.

But, not all are that way. Some have stickers on the Saga disc indicating who is supposed to get it, and how much they still need to pay. They insist you need to pay in full before getting it.

All I know, if I don't get a Saga disc that was promised to me since I pre-ordered in full on the net a while ago, they're going to find a canceled credit card payment.

This is why I'm soooo glad I pre-ordered a copy of the Limited Edition at EB Games online on St.Valentine's Day :D! I can't wait! Eight days till the release date and nine days till I receive my copy, since I chose "Next Day airmail", hehehe ! Anyways...it would be nice if I could play with someone from GTPlanet on Subsistence when it comes out. If anybody around here knows me anyway, lol..cause I've got a router, cable modem, a new network adapter even, so I'm all set to play online ^_^!

I just, eh...feel a little T_T...because nobody around here is getting the game, so it would just be nice to have some fun with someone on here who is getting it and wants to play online and have a good time :O! Anyways...if anybody is interested, you can either reply back in here, send me a private message to my GTPlanet account ooor message me on my AIM or MSN name, whichever you wish! Thanks and..eh...I can't wait >_<! Eight days :banghead:!!

What I plan to do once I get my copy from EB Games, is play all Metal Gear Solid games in chronological order.

First, Metal Gear Solid 3. Then, Metal Gear. Then, Metal Gear: Solid Snake. Then, Metal Gear Solid. Then, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. By the time I'm finished, Metal Gear Solid 4 should be out and I would be ready for it.

I'm sure it's good, but 9.8?!?! I hate IGNs mad scoring system, when they over rate a game, they make sure they really over rate it. I bought shadow of the collussus yesterday, and oh my, it's great, amazing etc etc, but IGN gave it 9.7....yeah i's freaking great but it's not 3% off perfection. This is obviously 2% off perfection...

Rant over. Bloody IGN.

Considering the camera is improved, which was the cause of it's lower score earlier, and it comes with a ton of extras AND an awesome multi player...I don't see why 9.8 is "overrated"...especially considering your taste in boring games like Splinter Cell over innovative games like MGS. I think more than them overrating it, you're selling it short.

Anyway, I just got MGS3, i was heart broken to find there is no 16x9 of progressive scan. Thats kinda why i didnt play it much after(submitting 20mins of my life just to move snake around) reading missinformation from the net that it did.

If MGS3S has both of these then I'll get the new game and get $2 off with trading MGS3 in.

Burn, there was no farking burn there!

Nothing deserves 98%. Nothing. Splinter Cell? I said it was good a few months ago, I'm hardly mad about it.

MGS 3 is a good, well made fun game, and I'm sure that this is even better, but just because I don't think it deserves 98% hardly means I'm selling it short! Hell, I bet even Oblivion isn't 98% material (and lets be honest, that's gonna be one of the best games ever...I hope as I pre-ordered it).

Yes I'm judging this off MGS3, but it's hardly gonna be a whole new gaming experience now is it. Personally, I think I'll stick with my "boring" games, like res 4, and shadow of the collussus, and soon Oblivion.

Man, honestly I think if you let either of those hold you back you're missing out on a wonderful gaming experience. Unfortuneately, I'm almost positive that this game does not support widescreen or progressive scan, because it's already pushing the PS2 EXTREMELY hard (play later into the game and you'll see). But I seriously would not dismiss this game just because of those two features, as it is more than worth the loss of widescreen and slightly less than sharp visuals (which actually don't work against the game believe it or not). I think you'd love it, I would definately upgrade to Subsistence so we can all play online, lol.

Nothing deserves 98%, ESPECIALLY

I can't say I agree, especially considering a few of these *tiny* facts.

I don't recall having read that you've played MGS3, at all, so given that, and your bias to Splinter Cell, you cannot accurately guage the worth, value, or rating of this game.

I DO recall you telling me how good Halo, Halo 2, and other Halo related titles are, and considering that all of them rated higher than 9.7 (with Halo 2 getting 9.8, and the freaking MAP PACK getting 9.0...just extra maps and a 9.0?) You're definately showing a little "bias" here.

Also, Splinter Cell, if I'm not mistaken, recieved a 9.7 for all but one installation...but you didn't say anything about that either. Fact is, this game has superior story, superior multiplayer options, and superior presentation, AND a butt load of extras, so how on gods green earth is it not deserving of a higher score than the above mentioned games with a lot less on the features and bonuses side? DIdn't think so.

edit: I think obliviion will most definately be 9.5+ material. THe game just looks too stunning, and given past installations of the series, I think this one will be the one to break the mold, given it's visuals etc...but if it get's past that 98%...are you going to say it's undeserved? I don't think it would be, as it obviously would have left the reviewer with a very good impression and reason to score it as such.

Tha_con, were you saying I should just get the new one anyway because I never said i gave up on the game totally, just that I'd trade up for the new if it had at least widescreen.

In my opinion, this is EXACTLY why I don't trust reviews. There used to be a user review of Subsistence (the Japanese version..of course :p) on Gamefaqs..and he gave it a 10/10 :scared:! NO game...I don't care WHAT it is...deserves a 10/10. There's always going to be some little glitch, maybe the music could've been better in a certain part, maybe there was a *hint hint* CAMERA ANGLE...you didn't like...just anything really. I just don't think any game is worth a 100% perfect rating, no matter how much you enjoy it >_>;. But that's just how I see it.

P.S. I hate to stray off topic here for a moment, but here's a perfect example. I'm in the process of playing Mobile Suit Gundam: Climax U.C. and I LOVE it! But when I went to look through some topics on Gamefaqs about it, I noticed that someone had submitted a review, I figured I would go read it. Well..the guy gave it 3/10, saying you shouldn't waste your money buying it..more the less, even renting it for that matter. So...now you see why I don't trust reviews? It's because of people like that !

Halo 2 doesn't deserve 9.8, nor does Halo deserve 9.7. I didn't mention them because honestly, I forgot what IGN gave them, I'm not an encylopedia of review scores afterall.

AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, I DO NOT LIKE SPLINTER CELL THAT MUCH, I simply think it does stealth better.

I don't recall having read that you've played MGS3,

What do you think i was judging substance off? I have played MGS 3, it's been out farking ages.

Who cares if a game gets an 8.8 or a 9.8. To me once a game gets past 85% on average(not one gaming site) it must be a great game.

I dont know what Gamespot has up their sleeve but they will be doing it Live online Tuesday. I dont know if they've done it before but it must mean something if they are doing it live.

But 9.8 could be the fact thats its a great extension to a great game at a great price of $29.99. The value could be the difference and its what stops many 7.0 games from getting a 6, its low price.

Edit: Code, did you read the review or just blow up over the score?

Well, "does stealth better" does absolutely nothing for the game. Splinter Cell is a boring title, the stealth, is mediocre at best, of course unless you enjoy the ever so repetative "hide in the shadows!!" vs. the ability to lure out your opponents with noises and such, or using camoflauge to hide yourself from the enemy. I don't know about you, but to me, MGS gives many more options as far as gameplay variety vs. splinter cell and it's "realistic" stealth.

And I apologize about the MGS3 thing, I think I have confused you with another member on another forum...GO ME! Everyone makes mistakes right? Sorry again man, haha :P

Labounti - Well, I'm definately saying you should trade it up for the extras. If anything, just to enjoy MG and MG2, plus the boat load of extras. I don't know if you play games online or not, but it would definately be worth the purchase alone just to play multiplayer, as I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I think LaBounti is dead on about the grading. Reviewers are only human, it should be just looked at as a feedback, not some Olympic type accomplishment. Kinda like with movie reviews. I don't always agree with them, but I always like checking out their opinions on them.

On "10/10" scoring thing, I think it's possible. At least for me, when I played the original Gran Turismo, it was better than 100% score. If you looked at it a year later, obviously you could've found flaws in it, but at the time of the release, it exceeded the requirement for a perfect score IMO.

^^^ Yea, I was a bit surprised, but not *really* since they tend to be a lot more...well harsh.

Really it wasn't like this until they gave Soul Calibur on the DC a *perfect* score and the entire website went up in a hell fire and brimstone save yourself riot about it.

Since then they've been extremely tough on games, and even getting an 8.5 on GS is pretty good IMO. IGN tends to be a bit more easy going, and they also tend to judge on a curve, which GS certainly doesn't do.

For instance, if IGN gives a game a 10, it's relative to the console it's on, not their overall opinion of impressive visuals, like GS.

Both are good reviews IMO.

It's also because Gamespot realise that a game doesn't need to get 98% to be excelent. Anything above 75% or so is a decent game.

So has anyone picked up a copy yet? I'm planning to get mine in a couple hours once I finish up my schoolwork.

I'm debating whether or not I want to buy a Network Adapter and cabling right now or wait for another couple months.

I beg to differ, but that's me. I feel that Gamespot is entirely too harsh in some area's for no reason.

And by the way, this game isn't "decent" it is Excellent, and in every single way deserving of a near perfect score.

Whenever you scrubs get online let me know, user name is tha_con...

Man, I didn't get it till late this afternoon and it's already PACKED with about 2,000 people and stats are already flying through the roof for folks...I gotta play catch up!!!
