Really important if you're new to this series to take the time to read the settings we are using. One little single setting not respected could get you an automatic DQ so take the time to read.

For the returning drivers from last season you'll see couple of changes, both RSH and RSS banned, AI must start on RM tires. Don't forget to readjust your settings to match those. 👍

Damn, I'm going to struggle to beat the AI on RM. They're hard enough on RH!!

And will we be using the speed limiter for all the events this season or just this one? I preferred the forced pit, personally.

This will be a tough race.

Nope it's only because it's not a real racing track layout that we use "speed limiter", just like when we used it for Tokyo Route 246 last season since it was a city track with the walls really close. We might use that option maybe 2-3 times this season and the rest all "forced pit entry".

Just a question... what happens if u accidently run into a wall... or run off the track?? restart the entire race?? (non intentional that is)

Why would you want to restart! It's a normal race incident that's all, if the contact doesn't get you a penalty then you go back on the track and continue with only the off course excursion that cost you couple of seconds, if not the speed limiter will kick in.

Well, I just tried the 40 laps for the first time. I think i'm going to have to work on consitancy... alot. The line-up I raced agains was comprised of NSX's. Four of them. The Falken Skyline was there too, but he didn't do very good.

Hey guys, does the game have different settings from Time Trial to Single Race, because my Celica feels really loose?

I have a feeling the different tires are making the car handle a little differently!

Well you do qualify on RSS on all fours and I doubt your racing combo looks close to that! Yup the difference between RSS and RH-RM tires takes some kind of adjustment.

O yeah. The tire set-up does look a lot different. I think tommorow I will be used to it and I'll run a better time. Right now I'm in a qulifaction mind-set. :)

eatsviper, I have a question about "restarting", so what happened was.....

I was coming over the small hill on the second turn and I caught a little air, when my car landed the back end broke loose and I spun out (I controlled the spin enough to stay on the tarmac the whole time). The second place car was only 2.000 seconds behind me. I got my car straightened out and hit the accelerator.... then BAM!!!!, the second place car rams me... do I need to restart?

No, like I said those are normal race incidents it's part of the game. The only thing you should never do is ram the AI on purpose to improve your position, or shortcut in the grass to pass an opponent or stuff like that. So all in all in the race you never have to restart.

Well you can restart if you know you're behind your best time but that's about it. :)

One question. What exactly does the speed limiter do?

If you hit a wall it will limit you to 31mph for 10 seconds. It's just like the 5 second penalty in the special condition hall.

Ahh, I see. I guess it also applies if you hit an AI car? If so, I just hope it doesn't penalize you for being rammed by one of those fools. :indiff:

No, if they hit you from behind you get no penalty. It's only if you hit something hard with the front half of the car.

Just ran a race distance and am reasonably happy with the time, mainly because I didnt get any penalties :sly:

Had one off just before the first tunnel but I managed to control it and get back on track without hitting anything, cost me about 2s all up.

If I get a chance I might run the race again on softer tyres.

Good luck guys 👍

I've now done 2 races, and I think I've got a competitive time. There's just one thing bothering me:

Why, oh why can't we have some BLUE flags??

I don't know how many seconds I lost trying to lap these inept AI, but it was a lot. It is obviously compounded by the fact the all the AI cars are faster in a straight line. Who else is having this problem?

Well, on my third attempt, which was this evening, I actually caught the AI. Well, two of those stupid NSX's were really easy to pass, because I think I caught them at the right parts of the track. :) Then, I caught the third one in line on the sharp left before the chicane on the front straight. Well, that took me untill the tunnel to pass him. :grumpy: The last guy was pretty easy to pass though! :) I passed him in the pits.

Blue flags would be great. But really, there would be no challenge if you had blue flags in a 6 car field. It would just get more boring, if you know what I mean.;)

All in all, I ran a really good race, with only one off, which may have cost 3 seconds at most!

Please, everyone, share your stories too. This thread is surprisingly quiet and boring. :boggled:

Yes, passing the AI in the pits is the dream. Because trying to pass them on the track is a nightmare.

I've been doing a bit of testing with some other cars to see how my time is looking. Took the Xanavi Nismo for a run and now I'm scared. The RX-8 is slightly quicker for a given set of tyres, but the Nismo can run a softer set of tyres and still do the same strategy I'm running. That makes it theoretically quicker over a race distance.

Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. But there's no doubt the RX-8 chews through tyres.

I don't know what to think from some of the stories, I've won the race twice. I don't know if it's my car, or my driving. Most of my laps have been around the same time, only off by a few tenths of a second. Sure I have a "hot" lap here and there, but I think consistency is the key here.

Haven't had the time yet to run the actual race but it should be done friday for the first time. Testing & Pitting strategy on friday plus a first try, and maybe 1-2 more tries each day on saturday and sunday.

For round 2 the race thread will go up on the first friday of qualification week, given people two complete weekends to run the race. (friday, saturday, sunday plus the normal race week). 👍

Very challenging.. never tried anything like this before.. except for the enduros in gt3... 👍
Not very impressed with my results.. but i only had 2 attempts... dunno nothing about pitting strategies..

3 penalities this time, instead of the 6 or 7 from the first time i tried it :indiff:

Time Submitted!

After another few hours of racing I've got the ****s. The AI are about 2 seconds a lap too slow but are faster than me on straights. So that's fine...I'll take them on the corners...oh no!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you think they veer from their set race line, NOT A FRIGGING CHANCE!!! It doesn't matter if your car is 9/10ths in front of them they will veer into you if you are on their race line and I've had it!!!

I have one race saved where I spent about an hour of restarting getting past the AI, I got past the first 4 guys perfectly clean (not too hard) I then managed to have half my car in front of the first place green FTO before we both got to a corner and once again he turned into me but I decided there was nothing I could do so I kept racing to get a time. In the same race:

- I lapped a couple of cars who naturally turned into me despite me picking a safe time to pass
- I accidentally cut the final chicane twice.
- I copped one penalty during the race
- I had a grass excursion 2-3 times with no penalty
- I grazed the walls on about 10-20 occasions
- On the very last corner of the very last lap I clipped the wall and span around and went over the line in reverse.

I have an appaling race save that is perhaps questionable according to the rules but I may not have the time to redo the race?!? What do I do???

If each week is like this I'm in for some trouble because the AI have pushed me to my limit, this isn't racing? They don't have a clue where I am? Overall I've put probably 5-10 hours into this over the last few days and despite my best efforts I still have a dodgy race...

If no one else is having this trouble then I guess I just suck at this type of race series and well...you can just give me the wooden spoon right now, I'm done :grumpy:

Its not so bad mate, the purpose of the OLR rules are to prevent cheating not to penalise you for stupid AI driving. If you lose time in any of your excursions then I personally (and I haven't heard anyone disagree with me) dont have a problem with it. If you want to up the realism by not having incidents in your race distance by restarting whenever you have one... well thats fine too.

As for my race (looking unlikely I'll find the time to try again) the AI cars seemed intent to take all the paint off the sides of my car :indiff: . I tried to avaoid it whenever possible but it still happened a few times. Had a few brushes of the wall too. Overall I drove rather conservatively I think and that helped me avoid incidents, but will the time be fast enough.... guess I'll have to wait and see.

At the finish I was about a lap and 3/4 in front of the 2nd place car and had lapped all the others twice. If you want to avoid the AI my advice is to limit your number of pitstops to be as few as possible.

Cheers 👍

Yeah, that is another point for me... I thought I could do the race with something like 3 pitstops, but no way  I don't know if that's a general, a driving-style or rather a car problem...well let's see

Had some attempts, but didn't finish anything and the positive thing for me is, I can overtake all the AI cars before the first tunnel 👍

I see I'm not the only one that the AI cars like to mess with. I simply restarted every time one of them pushed me out of their way. I've run the race to completion 3 times now, I have 2 of them saved. My best one so far had no penalties, and no off track adventures. I think I did pretty well. We'll see how the results turn out. All in all I'm pretty happy with the series so far. I've run every race in the Enduro Hall in GT4 in A-Spec mode (excluding the 24 hour races, I did both A-spec and B-Spec in those), so I've got a pretty good handle on pit strategies. Fortunately for me I passed the AI cars while they were in the pits.

Good luck everyone, and I hope everyone stays for the whole series.

lmao told you it's not a walk in the park the JGTC series

Ok one thing you must understand is that Trial Mountain Circuit isn't a real racetrack layout. I shoved Trial Mountain intentionally on the first round of this calendar so that you learn how to pass the AI being always careful like you would in a real-life situation. Once we'll move on to tracks like Fuji, Laguna, Motegi, Suzuka, Apricot Hill etc.. you'll have alot more room to pass and negotiate a new racing line. AI is dumb sometimes but you just have to deal with it. Trial Mountain just proves to have even dumber AI than the average. :sly:
