This is really gonna sort the men from the boys.

*secretly fears he's a boy*

YAY, forced pit!

Good luck folks!

If I wasn't so good this race would be a problem :sly:

I havn't had a run at this yet, might have a go now. But I was just wondering why this week is "forced pit entry" and last was "speed limiter"? Just a random thing or what?

I think eatsviper was going easy on us for the first round. This time you definitely don't want any penalties.

Oh man, this is guanna be hard! At least I really enjoy this track, and with a bit of pratice on tires, I think i'll be able to kick sum ass. :trouble:

oh well, a good start is nothing when you have those stupid AI cars in front of you... the bad thing about this is

ROLLING START!

yes, that means they get to stay ahead of you a whole lap...

also, my qualify combo of RSS/RS, (softer tires in front) is not gonna work, so lots of work to do... in fact i´ll have to run opposite...

but the guys in the Nissan pit crew must been thinking about a solution for this... i hope so... i´ll have a go maybe tonight or tomorrow and then i post my experiences...

This may be one of those tracks where tires wear too fast, and RH RH is key. Also, I noticed the pit lane seems longer than most, which mean fewer pit stops for me!!!

Definitely going to be a tough track, with every tenth of a second counting!!!

I posted this in the qualifying thread, but it probably belongs here:

@fasj: I have the same problem with front tyre wear. The only thing is, it completely rubs me the wrong way to run a harder compound on the front. The car understeers already, which is the cause of the higher wear rate, so I don't see the point of making the car understeer more by giving the rear more grip than the front.

Simply because you're not wearing out the rears doesn't mean you should run softer on the back. I find my car much more pleasant to drive if I have RH/RH (even though the rears are still greenish when I have to pit) rather than RH/RM where the thing is even more of an understeering pig, my times are no faster, and I still have to pit on the same lap. If I want to try for a fast time, I run softer on the front to counter the understeer.

Unfortunately, unless I want to do at least 8 pitstops (always a possibility ) I have to run hards.

The RX-8 is quick, but it understeers and uses tyres more quickly than anything else. So, during the race I have to make more pitstops. On this track, by the end of 5 laps on mediums my front tyres are red.

And, after round 1 eatsviper adjusted the hp figure for the car so I'm down on power too.

I don't really want to complain, and in terms of lap speed the RX-8 is now pretty even with everything else, but during the race the tyre wear just kills me. We'll have to wait and see how the car compares on a track that is a bit more open.

So stupid! I got a forced entry on the 3rd last lap, because a certain Zonda was parked sideways on the corner before you enter the pits, just after T2. I couldn't even see the thing until I sent it flying. I hate this game.

I'm still a minute off want I want, and that entry could of cost me 20-30 seconds. So I'll have to have another run to find that extra half minute....

OMG! I got a penelaty on the third last lap too! I put racing softs on my car, making it speed up alot!!! When I caught up to the Falken GTR, I had nowhere to go. I nailed him from behind and got a penelaty.

Now that I have a pit strategy I'll re-run the race, and try and shave off another min or so.👍

There should be an option of say, Forced Pit for big hits, Speed Limiter for little hits.

It's just doesn't seem fair that you should have your race destoryed because the AI brakes half a mile before a turn.

I also had a situation in the race where I came out of the pits, and that BMW McLaren thing came up from full speed behind, and I had to dodge it so it didn't hit me into the far wall on the first corner. That stupid BMW ran off the track every corner anyway....

I hear you casio. I spent many a braking zone into the hairpins looking into the mirrors getting ready to dodge an errant competitor.

Worst offender: Panoz Esperante GTR-1. This guy does not like getting overtaken, so he uses me as a brake for the hairpins.

Not sure if it has already been asked or commented, but here it goes.

For a first experience in long races, this first one has been encouraging. No penalties, the car behaves well and tires wear evenly, allowing for only a few pitstops.

But.... my replay has not recorded the entire race. Is that normal? Is there any setting to make it possible? Or, when the time comes, should I send it has it is?

Thanks in advance for any reply, since I didn't know there was a limit for replay recording...

Yes, this is normal.

The game only saves the first 40 minutes, roughly, of the race. The replay save file though still shows your total time to complete the race, which means your result is still verifiable.

I suppose it is possible to go crazy once the replay has finished saving and start to wallride, shortcut etc, but it would definitely show up in the results if that started to happen.

Alot depends on how many saves you have.

Last week I was able to have the whole replay saved, cause I viewed the whole race the next morning to get fastest time, and I knew my fastest was in the last 5 laps of the race.

Thanks for your reply, VT. Didn't know about this limitation... and the ideia wasn't about going wild once the replay finishes  ; I like to play clean and I'm on these gtplanet competitions (BC5 first, for the portuguese team, and now WRS and this one) because it's a good clean place to compete. The issue here is that the best lap is almost always done in the final laps and probably won't be verifiable (I think I got mine on lap 42 of the second race, but not sure).

I myself am a judge and moderator of the portuguese GT4 forum, responsible for times reception and verification. However, we never organized races so long as these ones and I didn't know about the replay time limitation. Well... now I know.

As for the race, I tried it twice and fortunatelly my car is quite stable and tire saving. Those Ford GTs keep coming from nowhere. I once almost smashed one of them because it had stopped right after the last curve and was pointing to the wall in full throttle ( iguess now one had told him where the pit entrance was...). This was on lap 43, almost comprimising the entire race. Another one had stopped right after cruve 1. Maybe AI is becoming even less inteligent. I'll keep trying. I'm still getting my best results with a high top speed, since I still have problems with the manual throttle control. Maybe with more experience I'll get there. My DFP would help, but I got used to DS2 and didn't practice at all with the DFP.

Greats to you all.

PS - Just saw your reply later, teledriel. Thank you too. My MC1 has 700 K free, The MC2 is always clean for replay saving and copy through MAX.

Of course, the best cure for understeer (settings adjustments aside) is to take the corner slower :D

Out of curiosity, has anyone played with the Nissan Pennzoil Zexel GT-R yet? With either the DFP or the DS2. Not having my DFP with me I still have no idea if my sh***y laptimes are a result of the car or of having to use the DS2 which I'm not very comfortable with in GT4. Anyone who likes testing, please throw my car into the mix next time and let me know how it fares compared to the others, thanks 👍

well, i´m the other skyline driver, and i´ll have a go with your car...

what i can say about mine is, lots of understear, not enough power, but a balanced overall car for the race... lets see if yours is different...

did my first race last night...

please, somebody shoot that damn Panoz! :grumpy:
(and also the viper)

Strangly, I didn't have a Panoz or a Viper. From memory I had a Ford GT (Which I swear pitted every lap), a Zonda LM, BMW Mclaren thingy, A GT-R Skyline Concept (Is that the red and blue one?) and I can't remember the other one....it may of been a type of NSX...

My line-up (I got to know them all very well):

Nissan GT-R LM Concept (nightmare - very much faster than anything else)
Nissan 350Z LM Concept
Pagani Zonda LM
McLaren F1 GTR
Panoz Esperante GTR-1

These guys have a lot of trouble staying on the road, like everyone here I've come around a corner to see a car parked across the road with wheels spinning. All apart from the GT-R LM; that thing is a rocket.

For me, it is actually quite a challenge to win the race because I have to do nearly twice the number of stops of the GT-R.

Of course, the best cure for understeer (settings adjustments aside) is to take the corner slower :D

The problem is that I'm already 2 seconds per lap slower because I have to run hard tyres, and no matter how carefully I drive I get no more than 7 laps per set. You can do the math.

I did my second run tonight. :grumpy: I haven't driven on this track or in this car in almost 2 days, so I wasn't very consistant. I did improve on my first time, but the first 2/3rds of the race felt like crap.

I'll run another race tommorow, since I do get out of school early, and I have a long week-end. :) ..................w00t!

Honda Castrol MUGEN NSX can die!!!!!!!! :grumpy:

It seems like whenever I get near this car his only purpose in life is to slam into me, or force me off the track. WTF PD!!!!!

On a side note, the NSX pits every 11 laps, go figure.

lesson number one:

never ever try to get a extra lap when your front tires are orange...
lost 10 seconds in that final lap because of that... anyway, i did all the testing i could, now i have my pit strategy and on saturday i hope i can get my race togheter with no penalties and stuff...

btw, what´s with that BMW mclaren? he always goes to the grass on turn one, and then stops the car...

also, can someone please tell the AI that they are been overlapped?
because you pass then in one corner, and they try to slam you in the very next corner to try to "regain" their position... maybe PD had satoru nakajima in mind when they worked on the AI inteligency... go figure...

also, for me 10 laps in RH, 6 in RM and 4 in RS, so i eat tires 👎 not really my car, i think i have to be more conservative in the corners...

lol u should be very happy with that

Almost the same. Tested several combinations:

RH/RH - 9
RM/RH - 7
RM/RM - 6
RS/RS - 5

Made some pit strategy calculations, trying to figure which one would be eter, based on my times with the diferent tire sets; the results:

Without refering times

4 pits stops with RH/RH: time per lap (slower) x 45 + 4 30 secs pit stops = X secs
7 pit stops with RM/RM: time per lap (faster) x45 + 7 30 secs pits stops = X secs

(this X is exactly the same as the first; by the second).

This result produced a lot of indecision. Either I manage to go faster on RH/RH or it doesn't matter what tires I choose.

It was just an indecision statement... :dopey:
