This is a club that is about people who enjoy endurance racing in general, but focuses on the 24 hrs of Le Mans, the greatest race in the world.

So if you enjoy endurance racing or the fabulous sports cars that take part of it this is the club for you.

To join simply tell me you want to be a part of the 24hrs of Le Mans Club. You must then put a link in your signature leading to this post. The signature must read "The 24hrs of Le Mans Club" or "Join the 24hrs of Le Mans Club" or "Member of the 24hrs of Le Mans Club". Color or size is your choice.

This is also a place to discuss happenings in the world of endurance racing.

And of course Dark Elite will be starting an organization called Endurance GT. This will be a place where endurance racers around the world can come together to race eachother with GT4. Of course a 24 hrs of Le Mans spot race during June using GT4 is being planned. :) This of course will be the biggest race of year for this club as well as Endurance GT. Rules for this race are coming together as we speak.

Here are a few websites that any endurance fan should visit

http://www.freewebs.com/24hrclubadmin/ - 24LM GT Club website

www.lemans.org - Offiial 24hrs of Le Mans website

www.americanlemans.com - America's endurance series

www.lmes.com - Europe's endurance series

Thanks for joining appie17. 👍 Remember to add a link to the club in your signature.

I will send you a PM with a link leading to a private forum where we can discuss plans about the GTP + GTX online 24 hrs of Le Mans

Seeing that GT4 Online is coming out within the next few months I think we should figure out a prefix for our online name

Examples:

24hrEarth

LM Earth

Need good ideas for club member prefixes

Please, count me in! I've always loved Le Mans, but never been able to go because of the school's calander... :(

If you want a fixed club prefix for all members to use, how about VQLM?
Vingt-Quatre heures @ Le Mans (although it doesn't actually work in French... If you want a proper French version it'd be VQDM, for Vingt-Quatre heures Du Mans)

I suppose I'm a pre-registered member of the forums

Welcome Dark Elite

VQLM and VQDM both are nice, but I'm wondering if people can figure out what the prefix stands for without asking. They probably can't and won't figure out we're a 24 hr Le Mans club, unless they're french :D

Ah you can't go to Le Mans yet because of a schedule, but I can't go because I live 1,500 miles away :(

You have permission to post now in the forums...lol I'm going to get a club website up eventually. No any good places for me to setup my own website?

Hey Earth---

Check out www.freewebs.com if you're looking for a 'free' host account for your web site! :D

Hey thanks!

Just a little embarrased that i said "No any good websites" lol

Yeah, I'd recommend Freewebs too, Earth.

I use it without any difficulty.

But please, please believe me when I say the template sites are not much good. If you have any knowledge of HTML, the I'd strongly recommend building it yourself under the 'Advanced User' signup option. If you don't know HTML coding, I'd be happy to help out?

As for the prefix, I see what you mean - even a Frenchman would probably not figure it  how about LM24?

Let mejoin the sentence and say: Count me in :D

I'm facinated by this sport, especially in 1998-1999 when Toyota competed with it's GT-ONE 👍

Welcome to the 24 hrs of Le Mans Club Pink_The_Floyd. Looking forward to seeing you race in the Fuji 1000km. There is only a few cars left and I need a teammate for Creation Autosportif ;)

I too have been a fan of the 24 hrs since the TS020LM ran there. That was my favorite prototype for a while until I saw the C60

LM24 is excellent. The 24 won't interfere with the name that follows and anybody who knows anything about sports car can figure what LM24 means.

I took some classes on HTML code in high school but Ive forgotten it now. Yes, help is needed!

Hey, welcome to the club!

I've made a little progress on the website superfast. The HTML code looks familiar, but I'm still working with it. Website should be ready in a month or two!

Count me in Earth

Well Superfast work on the website has been haulted for a while now due to the the OLR Le Mans and of course the real thing, but I will get back to it eventually

Thanks for joining gOoSeTeR!

I hope you enjoyed the Le Mans 24 hr this year. I know I did. I thought it was a good race. In my opinion I see this race as just a build up to next year's race. Next year Audi will have serious competition from a closed cockpit diesel 700hp Peugoet (which should have insane top end speed:scared: ) and The Porsche/Penske LMP2 cars should be there as well, and lets not forgot my personal favorites, the Pescarolos. That will make for a seriously deep field.

I think Audi pretty much proved diesel is the way to go in sportscar endurance racing. If you have the technology to make a car with diesel you should do so. The fuel mileage of diesel is key.

All in all I see this Le Mans as a prelude to the huge battle that will take place next year. Too bad we have to wait 365 days...:)

I'd really like to join! I'll edit my sig when I can get a chance (going to bed when I post reply). Also, I believe that the Le Mans Endurance Series is actually called the Le Mans Series and the website URL has changed. I think your link is still good, just "for your information."

Flattered, but I can't take all the credit there. ICallShotgun took over for me when I went away and he is responsible for all that the series is as of now. Quite frankly, I think RACECAR and 'Gun are probably the two most important guys there. Without them who knows where the series would be.

I participated in my first 24 hour online race November 25-26 2006.

Game used - NASCAR 2003
Mod used - GTP
Team - WRRacing
Host of Race - WOSEC

By chance I ran into this video so I decided to look into WOSEC more considering I had the game and mod.

What do you know, I signup at WOSEC just 2 weeks before they run their 3rd annual 24 hrs of LeMans Race. I post a message asking does anybody need a driver. 3 teams offer me a ride.

For those not familiar with the GTP mod there is 4 classes of cars. Mazda 787B, Mercedes Sauber C9, a Porsche and Jaguar. All cars have different handling, braking, horsepower and fuel economy.

I was offered a ride from two teams running Mazdas and 1 team running Mercedes Saubers. My practice with all the cars made it clear the Mercedes was the class of the field. The Mazda 787b could only go 14 laps per fuel run while the Mercedes could do 16 or more easily. Also the Mercedes' top speed at LeMans was 213mph while the Mazda could only hit 197mph. The Mazda was lighter and made up time braking and cornering but LeMans is a speed track. I decided to go with WRRacing and the Mercedes.

One of the things I was worried about from the start was could I get up to speed safetly. I did not want to hold back the team. I looked into lap times and found out that the top teams could run 3:28-3:30 laps consistantly. This concerned me because at first I could only run 3:37-3:38 laps.

But with some help on the setup from my teammates at WRRacing and ALOT of practice I got my times down to the 3:33-34 range. 5 seconds a lap slower then the top teams but I wasn't too concerned. I quickly became the fastest driver on my team so I was happy. As long as I wasn't holding my team back everything was OK.

Before continuing on I think I should describe driving a GTP car around Le Mans '06 layout using NR2003. First off AIDS were not allowed at all. This means accelerating out of arnage and other slow turns was extremely difficult. The car is extremely tricky to drive through the Ford chicanes because the backend wanted to step out all the time. I countered this by using 3rd gear through it. I also never shifted lower then 2nd gear at any point which also helped with tire spin out of slow corners.

So all in all driving a GTP car at LeMans is definitly MUCH more difficult then driving any car there in GT4. Add damage on top of that and the stakes are very high.

Just one day before the race at the last practice session for the team only 4 drivers showed up. How is that bad? Well, WRRacing intended to field 2 cars for the race with 3 drivers a piece. The schedule for driver changes had been set and now it seemed 2 drivers would not show.

The team boss said he will withdraw the #18 car and have all 4 of us share the #17 car. I disagreed. I suggested 2 of us share each car until one of them drops out then the remaining drivers move and help out the remaining car. After all, our goal was to finish the race first, and then finish as high up the order as possible. And with the chances being very high that something would happen to one of the cars sometime along the run I thought this was a good idea.

The team boss agreed. So there you had it, 4 drivers, 2 cars. 12 hours of racing in a 24 hour time period for all the WRRacing drivers if the 2 missing drivers didnt show.

Before moving on I will explain how driver changes are accomplished in NR2003. Before the race we all create identical usernames and download identical paint schemes for both the #17 and #18 WRRACING cars. To do a driver change the rules state we must pit and come to a complete stop. Once we do this you exit out of your game by using ctrl-alt-del or pressing ctrl minus rapidly. NR2003 allows disconnected drivers to reenter online games. So your teammate will rejoin the IP address of the race under your user name. The game will allow him in the race from the pit stall but he will lose 1 lap. WOSEC mandates a minimum of 12 driver changes for 24 hour races to keep it fair.

The Day of The race finally arrives

WRRacing gathers on teamspeak 1 hour before the race. The server is open for practice but I dont feel like practicing, I'm ready for the race. But I give in and run a couple of laps and leave. Still no sign of the 2 missing WRRacing drivers.

But just 10 minutes before qualifying they both show up. WRRacing now has 6 drivers and things are looking up.

I was given the privledge of starting the race and qualifying the car. Qualifying begins and I turn in one of my better laps of 3:32.9 which puts me (WRRacing #17) in 11th place. WRRacing #18 is right behind me in 12th place with a fast 3.33.xxx lap.

But then the host makes a huge error and advances to race, deleting all the qualifying times.

We have to qualify again. No problem right?

I wreck in the next qualifying on the warmup lap.

I'm coming out of Mulsanne corner at 50mph and get on the gas earlier then normal to see what I can get away with. Bad move. I spin the tires and make considerable contact with the inside wall. I see pieces of the car fly onto the ground.

I move on and run my first Q lap. My top speed has been reduced from 212mph now to just 209. My first lap is a 3:35.xxx. I keep it steady for the next lap. I know I have to make up the time I lose on the straights somewhere. I wait until the Ford chicanes to make my move. I push it really hard through there and it pays off.

3:33.7

Good enough for 14th. WRRacing #18 does a bit better and qualifies 12th of 36. The pole sitter turns in an amazing 3:27.8 lap for the pole.

Now the moment.

36 cars start to roll for 1 warmup lap. When we get back to the front stretch we will be at full speed. On the pace lap some drivers are obviously very nervous. Some guys are accelerating quickly and braking hard. I almost make contact with the #10 Russian Ringrace car that is ahead of me. But in time it is all smoothed out. We get single file in preperation for the start.

WRRacing #18 mentions on the radio the scary truth: "Man, these tires are going to be ice cold for the start."

I look at my tire temps and they are around 100 degrees from driving at 55mph for 8 miles.

I'm even more nervous now.

Then one of the WRRacing drivers watching from a program that allows you to view the cars from an overhead map states: "I'm glad I'm not out there with all those cars all around me."

"I'll be fine." I remind myself

"I was chosen to start the car because the team boss has confidence in my skill."

Then I remember this is my first official GTP race. I've ran maybe 2 5 lap online races with the GTP mod, but nothing compared to the hundreds of NASCAR races I've ran. This was also my first race using NR2003 in months. Of course I never told anyone at WRRacing that. ;)

But I had confidence I would be fine.

The Green flag dropped and we accelerate.

Heading into the first turn the #10 Russian Ringrace car was ahead of me and I was followed by the infamous 'Chilean Racing' Team. These guys were infamous for terrible driving in endurance races. It wouldnt take long before he caused trouble and it wouldnt be long before me and the #10 would meet eachother on the track.

But the Chilean Racing Car tried a foolish daring move just 3 turns and 20 seconds into the race. He tried to dive bomb me going into a sweeping left hand turn but instead locked up his brakes and spun out.

He was then T-Boned by the MAZDAR4SPD team causing massive damage to both cars.

Just 30 seconds into a 24 hour race I am almost taken out. Is there any chance WRRacing or 17 or 18 could survive a couple of laps let alone 24 hours!?

Stay tuned to find out. The 24 hour race has just started, much more to come.

Yeah, sounds awesome. Remember to update this...

Does anyone have GTR2, and maybe be interested in an endurance race?

m.piedgros

Of course you can, nismo0. I got you signed up. 👍

m.piedgros I dont have GTR, unfortunatly. But I do have rfactor. And I still have NR2003(copies) and the GTP mod. Check the schedule on this website. http://www.sscarace.com/ They are running The 24hrs of Le Mans race again this June, exactly like the one I did. (WOSEC folded after it hosted its last 24 hrs of Le Mans, more on that later) If you, m.piedgros, or anyone else would like to get the game ;) NR2003 and run this thing with me PM me ASAP

now, m.piedgros, Mulsanne, nismo0, thanks for the interest.

Reason for lack of update for over a week is my NASCAR 2003 CD broke in half while inside my DVD drive. I was unable to access the replay of the race for a while. After alot of looking I have found a no CD patch so I'm good to go. I also have backups of the game that allow me to reinstall it but will not let me play it so I still need the NO-CD patch.

Now, as for this race I've decided to make a video of it instead of just typing and pictures.

I will post it all on youtube. Now I am new to posting videos on youtube and I am new to video editing.

I will give out these 2 sample clips of the race before I make the full highlight video which should take some time.

First video is the ill-fated Chilean Racing attempted pass on me (WRRacing #17). The previous photos are from this incident.

The next video is just the beginning of this nice little fight between me and the #10 Ringrace car ...as you can see from the video I've gotten around my teammate on the first lap (this is lap #2) but I'll show that happening and much more in the full review video.

Nice report Earth +rep 👍 - look forward to reading the rest.

Thanks for the interest TheCracker

As for the LeMans Highlight video I am putting it on hold as I am currently hard at work making another video for something else entirely. (It will be viewable in my Youtube Videos when its done)

But rest assured the LeMans Highlight video will be done before the end of this month (March), which will be the 1 year anniversary of this club. The video, when complete, will not dissapoint you, I'm sure.

I am also considering changing the name of this club to 'The Sports Car' club or something similiar for various reasons

edit: It should also be noted that I am very close to securing a ride for my second online 24 hrs of Le Mans in NR2003 using the GTP mod this June. I've contacted the team leader and he said he will forward my request on to the rest of the drivers to see if they approve which he thinks they will. Also, if I get this ride I'll set up a way for club members to watch AND listen to me race this thing LIVE. Yes, its possible.

EDIT 2: Just a quick capture of me practicing at Le Mans 3/12/07
