RULES : Standard online racing rules for clean racing applied when ever possible.

Race :

Minimum of 2 wheels on track
Rumble strips are part of the track
No intentional AI contact
No wall riding
No wall touching
No short cutting
No cheating of any kind

Since this is a semi-enduro format (just under 1h each round) we can’t really ask for 100% error free races. But you must still follow the same basic rules layed down for qualifications and use them when ever possible. Since you are racing with other AI cars little incident may occur and result in an excursion off the track, those are normal racing battles. Passing another car should always be done with caution and fair play just like in real life.

Hmmm? Soft's for the AI again!

Question: Is that what they will be wearing all season, Eats?

Just trying to get a feel for the format still, also it will help when testing a pit strategy once the No of laps is posted on a friday.

Neil

Like Niel, it's back to the testing, as now with the RS's on the AI, my opening is going to change.... the passing zones that I just figured out... doh :ouch:
Qualed in the middle again - shrug - 1 sec. behind and in 10th :scared: nice tight group GT300 👍 should be an interesting week here in JGTC :dopey:

# of laps was posted on Apr 28 2006 at 6:41 PM

That's 2h19mins before I was suppose to do so on Friday.

Eats,

You totally missed the point of my posted question there!

Are the AI going to be wearing SOFTS all season? Is the relevant part I would like answered.

Neil

Ta!

Comment about this week's race.

I am having serious trouble with the AI!
Because this is obviously a horsepower track, and the AI are set to +10...........AND the RX7's down on grunt!

I can get into 5th place, and 4th place without 'serious' problems. But, everytime I do get into 4th, I get drafted by the 5th place car down ANY of the straights. He pulls alongside, starts to push me into the dirt, gets infront of me, JUST, maybe 10% of his car width across the front of my car...........and then brakes!
I have had 7 attempts at this so far, and every time the same happens!

Forced pit because he has done the 'dirty' on me!

I AM NOT A HAPPY BUNNY!

Neil

I'm with you Neil! I haven't even really gotten around ANY of the cars... It's a pain in the butt. We'll see what happens if I start out on Softs all around and try to get around them. And then I'll try to just stay on the hardest compound tires and see how long I can get them to last while staying behind the punks for the first bit. After they pit though, I'll be swapping out to some other stuff so I can try and stay ahead of them. We'll see!

i'll be competing, just didnt have any time to do any qualifying..

Great!

This week is gonna be decided on pit stops!

Might as well be watching F1!

Mind you at least there might be 5 overtaking moves, so maybe it won't be quite as boring?

But seriously!

How the hell are we supposed to get by AI that have 130+ HP more than us(and romp away from us on EVERY straight, even though we are slipstreaming), use the same tyres as us(RS being the softest we can use), use dirty tactics (and get away with it, even ramming us)?
And the game punishes us for being ran into from behind by the same car that the last lap braked early and reverse parked into the apex?

Aside from the rant, I do have a question...............

Do we have to win the race?

or

Is it about the fastest time you can finish the race in?

Neil

:grumpy: sorry Niel, but I just took your car out
in 2nd before the last chicane, drafting 1st down the straight, overtake on turn 3/4 .... nice ride :) ... no wonder I wanted this car :)

Sweet. I have my strategy figured out I think. It doesn't seem like it's very fast, but the only other option I can think of I don't like too much. So, I'm about to start an official race! This is going much better than last round for SURE! We'll see how long I can keep it up. Not too much going on this week, so I should be allright.

Neil

I don't think you get penalized (other than whiplash) from being rear-ended.

I did get punted into the kitty litter at Midfield on one race exiting the pits! Not fun... Kinda like the guy in the DP car at Long Beach by Cheever (though it wasn't Eddie's fault...)

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

These $#$&*!@ AI grrrrr

These freaks keep punting me off the track, I always forget how much of a pain in the butt the AI can be here! I've just lost about 2 hours of my life in wasted runs thanks to them

</Rant>

For people messing with AI, I've found(and you might've as well), that if you take their line(in front of them), and don't brake too far off of how they're braking, you can stay in front of them decently well enough without contact. Sometimes they're stupid and go too hot into a turn, but a lot of the time it's much nicer.

And, yes, doing that does pretty much require the bumper cam with the rearview mirror to see what they're up to behind you so you can get in front of them, or let off the brakes a little bit, and so on. I normally drive on the roof, :sly:, so that's been a little bit of a hassle, but it's not too bad on this track.

OK,

Finally managed to work a strategy out that not only lets me not only keep up with the AI & pass them when possible, but also get into 1st and stay there!

Yippee!

The AI are still a PITA, bigstyle, but as Kyle says keeping an eye on them in the rearview mirror helps a lot. Pity the draw distance of the mirror is so short that they disappear when they are 5-6 car lengths behind, and suddenly appear again just as they are gonna rear-end you. Makes it hard!

Anyway........

Glad to have a clean, but aggressive, race under my belt. Now just need to test out different tyre strat's to see what's fastest overall.

Neil

Well I just ran my first race. My thumb is kinda sore, my ass is kinda numb, and the AI is kinda slow. From the way you guys were talking I was expecting a much larger challenge. I didn't find it hard at all, maybe because there is soo much space on this track to pass cars. I even had a penalty and still managed to beat the NSX :):).

I've got my own startegy,I hope it gives me the chance to have a podium finish again.Well,we'll see.As ejr_1 said,it's not a big challenge. At the beginning, there are few scary moments, but that's all.The NSX and the Falken GT-R are suicide again...Waste some time because of them.

Ugh. Took some time today to get a clean race in... I really wish I left it on on Saturday though, because I spent over an hour just trying to find some AI that I can weave through! And then by the time I could get through them pretty much cleanly(if not completely, don't know for sure, there's NO WAY to check until I complete the race), I got tired. So anyway, kept going for a while, then on my second set of tires, started to nod off here and there. Damnit! Got sideways on the S/F straight, then on my last lap before a pit, I REALLY nodded off, and broke so late that I went into the sand a bit. ARGH! Stopping for now, will finish the race tomorrow morning when I wake up. Hopefully I won't have any more time wasters!

I've done one race so far, I reckon that's all I'll do.

Using a 2-stop strategy, which may not be the fastest but it's fun. Also, in a startling break with tradition for this time of the season I just have to say, I love my car!!

It's very nice to have a car that has a bit of torque, and has responsive handling, and doesn't chew tyres massively. Plus for this round I'm relatively light, which is fun too.

I'm even starting to enjoy the track; I can see why hOtbOi likes it.

I finally managed a banker race yesterday. I wish I could upload my replays, because this would be a good example of what NOT to do on a racetrack. I just couldn't find my rhythm, and even on medium tires I couldn't gain any confidence in the car and was unable to attack the corners. The grip level seemed change with each sector. Very sad race.

Hoping to put in another, more solid run tonight. My DFP may be in a DHL box tomorrow morning so time is running out on me :nervous:

EDIT: Had another run, much better this time around. I'm still struggling for grip here, my car is not happy at this track in race trim. Very twitchy. If I can keep my DFP around for a bit longer, I will try to put in another session before Sunday.

[OT] I'll be back in Switzerland soon, and I've been looking at some drive sessions in the UK (Donington Park mainly)...the option to drive a Ferrari F355 and a Formula Ford on track is just too good to pass up! Anyone from western Europe done this? Any suggestions/info?

Yesterday I did a first attempt, it was bad, and I can win easilly 20 seconds if I do a clear race but even with that I feel that I will finish last :p

I will retry but not today, maybe tommorow or saturday ;)

I have done some track-days, but on my bike not in a car.

Mainly donington, Cadwell park and Oulton park. My favorite is Oulton Park, lovely track that if done right is fast as buggery! Donington is fantastic too, but scary in places.

Go for it man! It's one hell of a buzz!

have not had any time yet to race but i will get one in over the weekend, already figured my strategy, not my favourite track but i will try and put in a good showing...

:grumpy: :ouch: :grumpy: my DFP gas pedal won't show full throttle
it'll be weeks before the warranty replacement is here  and I'm useless with the DS2 .... my times for the next couple of races ? :nervous: :scared: :ouch: :grumpy: man it's been a rough couple of weeks :yuck:

J.R. mate!
Turn the pedals upsidedown,
Take a screwdriver to it, remove the bottom, clean out the acumulated hair and fluff, check that the potentiometer's are seated correctly( the fluff gets between the pots and their seats), spray a little grease onto the pivot points and re-assemble!

That should sort it out!

Have done it myself, takes about 10 minutes total. And if you are careful not to mark the screws, they will never know.

There is a thread somewhere on GTP concerning this very subject, but I'm sorry, I can't remember where.

Neil

:) :dopey: 👍
Thanks Neil

I found that thread 👍 great pictures
Now it's just my driving that'll be to blame :yuck: :D

thanks agian

No problems mate, happy to help! 👍
