:grumpy: :ouch: :grumpy: my DFP gas pedal won't show full throttle
it'll be weeks before the warranty replacement is here  and I'm useless with the DS2 .... my times for the next couple of races ? :nervous: :scared: :ouch: :grumpy: man it's been a rough couple of weeks :yuck:

Let us know how you come out with Neil's repair method. I (and many others) had the same type of problems. Because the failure to show full throttle was intermittent, I ended up thinking it was an issue with the connector at the steering wheel console, though the two pots in the wheel assembly didn't seem to be very well secured in their slots and there was some play in the shafts between the pots and the pedal, and I didn't care much for that. My wheelset was out of warranty when the problem became unmanageable but Logitech sent me another at a reduced price and it's been fine. I haven't had any reason to take the newer one apart, but I'm curious about whether or not it's different in the configuration of the pots.

Otherwise, why would it take weeks for you to get a new wheel? Logitech USA I think is somewhere very close to San Diego.

Neil had it right 👍

This was the 2nd wheel that I've had the problem with. The first was exchanged at the store I bought it at, Best Buy.

The delay in getting this one exchanged is thus: I bought the "extended" warranty. Which allows for one replacement. Which I did at the store. The next one I was going to have to ship to the warranty company. They inspect and then ship a voucher to me for a replacement.

As I found out, this happens a bit to the DFP. The thread Neil mentions I found by doing a string search ... DFP repair .... something like that... about the 6th or so post, someone posted a picture guide. Great help 👍 ... as Neil said, about 10 min. and I was back in business.

Now here's the kicker. Evidently, the pot has been moving around for awhile, because I'm getting around 2 seconds a lap quicker. I'm almost at my qual time :grumpy: ... but I'm up and running 👍 and having to re-learn turn-in points and throttle play.

Now, to learn about the paddle shifters :indiff:

I've thought for a while that there might be some variation in the failures of the DFP. I've heard of brake problems, etc. When I took my old one apart, I really didn't see anything that seemed wrong, except for the loose condition of the pot shafts. When I put it back together it seemed fixed. But later it showed the same problems. Along with the non-max throttle on the display, it would just completely lose communication with the PS2 and whatever I was driving would just fly off the track. I'd cycle the USB connector or the console connector, or both, and it would be fine---for a while, then I'd be back to the same problems.

And your experience with the greatly improved performance (and lap times) is the same as mine was. The car would just "feel" slow even though it wasn't necessarily showing less than max throttle on the display. So sometimes it felt slow but didn't show display indication, and other times it felt perhaps normal but the display showed less than full throttle.

Hopefully Logitech will have figured it all out by the time you get your new one, that is if you're going to "unfix" it when we get a break and send it in for a new one.

Well, I've been leaving the PS2 on for the past 3-4 days straight, leaving it paused in the middle of a race because I kept nodding off during the races and ended up going to bed early. So, I came back tonight after work to last night's start, (18 laps in of the 30!), and sat down on the chair, and bumped the controller that was resting on it... I was on the front straight just after the S/F line! The car slammed on the brakes and dove hard right into the wall! Then, aside from that, it of course made me go through the Pits... I was pissed! Oh well, it wasn't THAT good of a race, but it was decent, and it was clean enough...

After that, I sat down, had my strategy all figured out, and whipped out my current race. It's fast enough to submit, and I'd feel fine submitting it, especially compared with my showing last round. :yuck: I see about 10 seconds in it easily if I can keep it more clean the whole time and stick to the correct lines more often, and then a few seconds more from better tire management on my second set of tires...

Cool! :) I'm hoping for a decent top 5 this time, car's weight reduction should make it a possibility, but WHO KNOWS! I'm having fun though, so that's all that matters!

👍

Time sent to Eats!

Fairly happy with it, ish!

Could not get medium fronts to last more than 8 laps, and hards were just too slow.
Softs only lasted 6 laps max.

This is one slippery and strangely abrasive track init?

Not holding out much hope for anywhere near the top of the board, prob gonna be right at the bottom. Along with my fellow RX7 drivers.

Glad it worked mate, didn't find the thread myself until after I had actually done the repair. But found it later on.

I could! Well, lap 9 would be reaaaaaaaaaaaally reaaaaaaaaaaally slow. :sly: So that's actually about the same as me, same with the softs.

And, come on now, stop hating on the RX7. It's gotta be faster than my Altezza, my Altezza doesn't have any torque either. Well, I guess you do have more weight to lug around. What's your torque rating? I'll go check mine. That way we can compare torque/weight as well as power/weight, which STILL won't tell us much, because the power curves would be more telling of actual performance. 5spd tranny definitely doesn't help me...

Well Kyle, the RX7 has slightly more power in GT mode but here's my power/torque graph.

Gives an idea of the shape of it.

Don't hate the car, love the handling. It's fantastic on twisty tracks, but hill and long straights are just not it's forte.

Finally got one run in today. Had some oral surgery bout 10 days ago, got an infection in my jaw, then got the Flu and while wretching from the flu I threw out my back!!!! I've been a total mess all week, didn't even turn the PS2 on until today. I'm on super heavy duty pain medication(100mg. Morphine) so needless to say my reflexes are a tad off. Anyway I got a clean run in, definatley near or at the bottom. Oh well next race will be better, I'm fairly proficient at Cote D'azur and I should lose some weight this week. Good Luck all!!! Have a drink for me.

I've sent my time last night, it's not fast but quite clean and regular (almost always in 1:46), I'm quite happy of it, now I have just to wait the results (but I guess I'll be last)

time in, hard to be consistent probably another 10-20 seconds left in it, but i am fairly happy with what i have managed this week...

Time submitted.

About 10 seconds left on track from some minor offs, and I'm not certain I went with the right strategy, but a busy RL weekend meant I didn't get time to have another run.

Good luck all!

Time in.

Ugh what a dismal race. Didn't get much time in it since I rented Ace Combat Zero. What a sadly disappointing game.

Next week should be better, I hope.

I just started playing The Elder Scroll's III: Morrowind

Managed to get a game-of-the-year edition for £15 in the local 'Game', so have lost myself in there for more hours than I care to think about.

Fantastic game, only got it so that I could get used to the interface etc, B4 getting Oblivion.
Now that's a good looking RPG for ya!

Dude! Team-mate!!

No dismal races allowed! If ACZ was so disappointing, drop it NOW and do another race! You have time for about 6 more before submission deadline. Do not pass go, do not collect $200! TiVO the Laguna Seca race, I'll tell you who won at the Nurb (another good F1 race if I say so myself).

I ran two races this week with the second about 16 seconds or so faster than the first. Had a full spin on the first, no penalties. Had a lurid half spin/slide at turn 1 in the second, but much more consistent and no penalties. Still lost 2 seconds there and a few more going wide off at T11 at the end of my first tire stint. I can see maybe 5 - 6 seconds if I tidied up everything.

Still pretty happy with the results, though the Supras seem to have the potential to blast me by 30 - 45 seconds. We'll see if Curtis limits himself to RH like he mentioned. Looks as if VT did that, so it's up to Dan to go Soft/Often (not a very flattering description of one's performance though... heh...)

Now we'll see if Zeratul and fasj can whip their Nissan's faster, especially Francisco with the weight and power penalties... Zeratul, I'm still not fully convinced that your Skyline is that hobbled... Hope you do well this week.

Later!

It wasn't that dismal. I ran it twice, first one with a penalty and second one with out. I picked up about 15 seconds. Even if I did go run another race I wouldn't pick up any more time. I've been trying for the last three days and I can't go any faster. AT ALL!!

I also gots a Geography project to do. It was do Friday, but I decided to give myself an extra week-end..... which I didn't use. :dunce:

im gonna go and break someone's neck

first problem, i had the laps set to 47 still ~ but i was gonna finish off the race at the start of lap 31

second problem, my final pitstop ~ i accidently stepped on the gas pedal once the refueling started... and the gas was so low...

god damn...

I hit the gas pedal when entering the pits, on the final pitstop. I was gonna change tyre type...........just then, the pop-up screen came up and I was stuck with what I had on.

Start button, down, X.................swear a lot!...........Start again!

OMG! A chink in the armor! Heh... Like the time at Neil's Nurb challenge where I ran out of gas...

Of course with the right settings and that practice, you'll be that much faster... GRRR!

Time submitted from my one and only run. Let's see how far in front hotboi is after 1 run.

Had two AI-induced moments in my race, one on lap 18 when I had to stop in the fast left and right sweepers to avoid a recovering Ford GT. And then I had to go off-track and had a half-spin avoiding the C5R under braking for the tight right before you go under the bridge at the end of the lap.

But I had an ok run for the rest of the time. 2 stops, running 10 lap stints on RM/RH.

and i see you guys in monaco, because this race does not look good... with all my memory card problems, i had one race last night only... i was doing the second, but i was hit by a stupid panoz that brakes in the middle of the big straight... i was going 15 seconds fastyer than my first run...

well, at least less weight for monaco...

and i still couldn´t download the qualify file... stupid filefront:dunce: always a corrupted download for me:grumpy:

Ended up running 3 times today. My second race was a keeper so I went off to the beach, came home and went to review before submitting and saw that my HP was at 319 or 0, when it should have been 315 or -1, damn! Reran again with correct HP settings and was only 5 seconds slower...I'm quite happy with that. I also enjoy the track now, hated it till I ran 100 laps, but it has a very comfortable flow to it..you were right hotboi...again!
Time submitted, 3 pits, no hits, no errors and I'm sure no podium.See ya'll at Monaco.
Must admit I've had my share of pit errors, good to see you guys are human...cept you Neil:)

10 lap stints with MEDIUMS on the fronts!? Holy COW! That's mind boggling... How much did you have to reign in your driving to stretch that?

Sheesh. Wish I could pull that off, though I have to admit that I didn't even try...

I stopped every 5 laps on RS/RS.

Can't wait for the results!

Piss. I raced last night, but forgot to write down my times, so I went to watch the replay... of course my little bro comes in and presses start and quits it, then I accidentally start a new race and *poof* my time is gone. Piss.

Didn't have time to race again, so just submitted my time from earlier this week. Should be ok though! ;)

Used RM/RH combo the whole time, 7 laps first stint, then 8, 8, and 7 again. Can't wait for the results!!!

Neil, I'll see if I can dig up a picture of my torque curves, if not just the max torque figure. Been busy and outta the house a bit this weekend.

Don't mean to whine or anything but...

HEY EATS! At least read the submissions man! When can we start the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours"?

I want to start qualifying at Cote! :^)

-SHig

i don´t think we will be seeing the results tonight... viper was online for the last time yesterday, so he has lots of PM´s and stuff to read tonight... guess we have to wait a bit...
