Looks very promising.

IGN
July 18, 2006 - Ramping up to make its first appearance on next-generation consoles, Codemasters has cracked the hood a tad on the next installment in its highly successful and critically acclaimed Colin McRae series. Dubbed DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road in the US and Colin McRae: DIRT in PAL territories (due to name recognition), the game will hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC simultaneously in 2007.

Promising to be the most diverse title in the series yet, the game will span locations throughout the world and feature the series' trademark point-to-point races as well as a slew of off-road events. Exact locations and tracks are quite slim at this point, but we're told that the entire 12.4 miles of the legendary Pikes Peak International course and all of its 150+ turns through the Rocky Mountains will be included.

In addition to its point-to-point races, DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road will include desert-ridden Rally Raid competitions in Dakar-style trucks and 4x4s, Rally Cross events that switch between dirt and road racing, and 850bhp heavyweight car Hill Climb challenges situated on cliff sides. Additionally, the game will offer a mode dedicated to each of the European, International and Global rally championships and will feature official 2WD, 4WD, Classic and RWD rally cars.

Lastly, while the game's multiplayer features are under tight wraps for now, we do know that it will feature online multiplayer support.

Codemasters is keeping many of the other details behind DIRT: Colin McRae Off-Road very secretive for now, but we do have a trio of screens to drool over in the meantime. Note that these are concept images as it's a little too early to show any in-game content yet, but we're told that these were created using the reference 3D models that will be featured in the game.

Fingers crossed that the G25 wheel works with the clutch and H-gate on PS3! Pikes Peak is gonna be awesome.

It looks lush, but I hope they bring some 720p shots out soon?

These are all target shots, none of them have any gameplay assets what so ever.

In fact, it's all reference models and such.

I'm happy the expert decided whats real and what isn't. Because of course, when there is a target photo on the 360 all hell breaks loose, but when it happens on the PS3, it MUST be true!

Anyway, the game will be pretty, no doubts there. Its too bad I haven't been keeping up on my WRC racing, nor have I played a McRae game in a while. Rallisport kinda ruined it (in a good way) for a while, as did GT4, Toca and Forza.

So cute. Even when I just make statements that are clearly made by the developer in the article you feel that you need to be personal. Such an adorable child you are.

I could apologise about what I said, and for the most part, I won't. I often get the feeling that you troll the 360 Forums to make us all sound like idiots for liking it, which is quite childish on your behalf as well. You may be an "expert" with some things, but that does not automatically make your opinion that of the most grand in the nation. You are not the Ayatollah, the Premier, the President, etc of gamming, and I often grow quite tired of you cutting down on everyone who even has a slight disagreement with you.

All I ask is that you play fair and dish out some respect for some folks. I don't care if you and I never, ever, get along, but I would appreciate it if you atleast treat some other folks as equals instead of lesser human beings because they don't follow your standards for how peoples opinions should be.

I'll have you know I said the exact same thing about this game for the PS3 as well, in this forum on this site, when people were claiming it was in game, or even used any in game assets.

I also said the same thing in regards to FFXIII.

I also said the same thing in regards to FFVII.

I also said the same thing in regards to many PS3 titles.

Thanks for reading all my posts. I'm not trolling this forum. I'm simply setting a few rumors to rest, I didn't say anything insulting in my first post, or demeaning. I simply stated that they weren't in game shots. You responded to ME (and indirectly) mocked me.

Well, if you were offended, I apologise. There have been many times where you come off quite negative about things, so I will try my best to take most things with a grain of salt from now on.

Don't worry about offending me, lol, the most you'll get back from me is some neo-hippy comment about something being cute etc.

The game will look nothing as those screenshots. They're all just renders (basically a photo that doens't reminiscince actual gameplay at all). ANyway, the way Codies' games been going, I don't have any confidence in this one being any better. CMR series hasn't improved a single bit since CMR3 and that game is from like 2003.

Looks/Sounds pretty good to me!

Your thoughts?

That's what I thought too! And the Rally Raid should be interesting as well. I can't wait to go screaming up Pikes Peak at an insane rate of knots!

Good find - I still think CMR2 was one of the most entertaining racing games of all time.. Finland in a Stratos, arse hanging out at a 150km/h - Pure bliss !...

[Edit:] Speak of the Devil !......

How awesome does that look? I wonder what the ingame graphics will be like. Being next-gen, it should by rights be pretty good.

nitro_2005
isnt that the Fenomenon Stratos concept car?
I think it is yes - But it's still the natural successor to the original - Good enough for me ;)

The one with the dashboard and hoom cam looks like real-time. All of the others look pre-rendered. Frankly I'll be impressed if the final game looks anything close to these screenshots.

Sweet screens! I wonder if those camera controls are in game or just a developer feature? I love to see Pikes Peak screens in there since I grew up there and have traveled that road countless times.

GET DIRTY!
