does anybody know for a fact how drifting is going to be judged in gt4??? I'm guessing... raceline, when the slide begins, ends, and how much u countersteer near the end to come out... or somthin

Kudos is not about drifting, its a driving style. Drifting would be judged like Need For speed Underground's drift mode. Speed ,angl,e distance. Good times I'd say.

KY said it would be done like the D1 series.

wut about crappy recoveries from drifts?? dont u get more points when u do that in NFS underground? they would have to make the ratings track, even more, turn by turn specific

Indeed , corner by corner would have to be. The ubber drifting in NFU is cool and insane but gives too many points. I have no idea how D1 rates drifting but id like to know.

No, it's a driving simulator. Get it right.
Damm straight although drifting is a form of motorsport thus its still racing related.

I've seen footage of the D1 but you still don't get the scope of how they actual score drivers but I would assume its the angle of the drift, the length and also how well you link your dirfts.

D1

Angle, speed, clipping point (how close to the apex of the turn), racing line, how much smoke emmited, other things such as flashy visuals. Also audience approval. Thats what i saw to be the factors of judging from the D1GP usa events I've attended.

It's a racing simulator, not a drifting game.

I dont know what rock you've been under but there will be a drift mode in GT4. At least aquire some facts before saying somehting like that

You seem to know alot of things...

If drifting is a part of the game why not, this can be fun ... but I really fear that PD spend too much time on developping things like drifting or tunning... which are not really the meaning of racing and GT ... I'm not sure a drift'n tunned car is really the best choice to win a race !!!

if people can't live without strange things why not...

lol... heck no drift tuned cars are not the best for tuning...:) Totally different configs for both, if ur settings are for serious drifting. I drift w/ my race setups sometimes

Its a competition of drifing style not racing. Again, this is the vision of Kazunori Yamauchi, its his game so he puts what he wants. It gets old when people make up their own definition of what Gran Turismo is.

exactamundo.. If he doesn anything in Gran turismo, it wont be half assed, so dont worry.. we're gonna be satisfied;)

Drifting isn't about winning a race, the cars are not in direct competition a bit like rallying.

I hope that GT4 aren't gonna have the slightest thing like Need For Speed Underground (except the styling). NFS:U is just another cheap spin-off caused by 2fast2furious,unlike GT4 wich they plan very well and for too long time :D

Apparently you haven't played the game for long. I love realism, but at times, arcade style racing is fun too. BTW, drifting in NFSU is nicely done.

like i said somewhere before..as long as PD puts all their time into creatign realistic physics..then drifting in the game should be as hard as it is in real life (minus g-forces etc)...therefore thos who master drifting in the game will have an appreciation for it....the way i see it is they should just take the gt3 approach, back then drifting wasnt too mainstream...but their game was soo realistic, that drifting was possible...so i just hope they take the physics level the next step up and show us what drifting would really be like.

Then select 'Arcade Mode' instead of 'Gran Turismo' mode. I hope drifting is only included in Arcade Mode. I don't want it to be a part of the game you have to complete to get to 100%. Apart from racing on dirt or clay surfaces, sideways is not the way to get around a track. It goes completley against anything any circuit racer has ever learnt.

Have you read any of this thread. Geez.:banghead:

Driftin IS a form of motorsprt, like it or not, KY aims to include as diverse a range of car racing possible at this stage, and drift races are in. It is in no way whatsoever unrealistic for this to feature in the game, if you don't like it, the do it just the once to get gold if your that botherred about a 100% complete stat, and stay well away after.

Well, IMHO a drifting competition feature in the game will make drifting allot more interesting and fun. I'm tired of doing drifts and comparing it to the memory of the last one I did because I have no memory card space and no sharkport to save my replays. Not to mention no way to objectively quantify my drifts, and hence not very many reference points to help me improve. Also no competition because I can't record my replays as videos and upload them. And the fact I don't know anyone who plays GT in real life...
At least if there was a built in system I could constantly try and best my best.

I hope the way they do the drifting thing in GT4 is better then what they did in NFSU. In NFSU they screwed up on the points thing cause you could just do constant powerslides and it was way too easy to win because of this. You didn't have to do real drifting in order to win the drift races. So I hope Polyphony doesn't do the same mistake as EA did with NFSU. But knowing how well polyphony is with making their games I doubt they'll do the same mistake that EA did.

Once again. Polyphony Digital has well over 80 members. 80 of them will not be doing the physics. And they wont spend 3 years doing physics. There is always time , members and room for other things.

Drifting may not be a bad idea. I have always wanted to learn how to drift really well beacuse it looks pretty cool. This might actually force me to do something about it. Having said that I am slightly sceptical. I thought the drifting in NFSU was pants.
