@Rallywagon

I wouldn't run a RAID (stripe or mirror) in a home machine. JMO. Too much hassle if a drive fails. Just buy a separate drive and back up to it every week or so and put it in a drawer or something when not in use. RAID works fine in enterprise solutions where you have many hot swappable drives but in the home...recipe for disaster if one goes bad...I've been there.

Don't worry about this guy Joe, storage is my gig. Literally, I work on the SAN team for the State of Michigan. Setting up RAID on my PC will be for the fun of it.

@Rallywagon - was that English?

That was 'Greek to me.' As much as I used to keep up with technology after college, I stepped away during my kids Fisher-Price and Nerf years.

Now, I have no idea and I wonder if I am transmogrified into a bad commercial.

Ok, so you got it handled. Just making sure because just regular guys building home PCs should not be using RAID. They read some crap about striping getting better performance or mirror being the perfect backup drive solution...and when a drive fails they have no idea what they got themselves into.

I also run two Dell 2950's in the basement, my important stuff is backed up to a share on one of them. But, a 2950 is OLD, and my new flashy MOBO will have features and speeds that will be a lot more interesting to play around with than those dinosaurs. My wife is going to rue the day LightSpeed finally moves into our hood. Fiber to the house, and I'll be running a fiber network throughout the house.
Too add to that. The full intent is to get a poweredge 710, use that to run VM's, then use the 2950's to house hard drives and hook them up to a small fabric switch and have a SAN array warehousing the VM's running on the 710.

Double edit. @Handlebar, those are really light on the abbreviations and acronyms. We could go into more detail. Here is a taste. SAN is an infrastructure that uses FC cables and FLG's to run a signal from an HBA to an MDS 9720 FS which connects the a VMAX through the FA's that then routes the info the BA's connected to HDDs and SSDs.
I do come with an advantage, I was in the military...

All that for a home network. 👍

Rally, yer just crazy with yer toys man.

Can't say I wouldn't want some fiber to every device in my house however.
To be fair, it is a group effort, myself and 2 others own the equipment. We fully intend on doing some web/game hosting and building a small data center.

I just head something. I think it was the sound of all the technical computer mumbo jumbo flying right over the top of this caveman's head. If it can't be fixed with a hammer, WD40 or duct tape, you either need a bigger hammer, a cutting torch, or more duct tape.

Ok, last video post for me from this past weekend. I took my the data from Harry's LapTimer and overlaid it with my fastest lap from my GoPro Hero4 Black in RaceRender LLC from Lime Rock Park: The Road Racing Center of the East with CHUMPCAR World Series and this is what you get.

Below is from a TT session last weekend. This is a Time Trial event, so it is a mixed group of cars. The video cuts mid-session as I catch up to a train as I pit in next time around. The tires I run are only good for 3-5 hotlaps and then they become greasy so I was done anyway. The layout of the course and the car setup overloads the rears quite early and the car is rather loose, but fast and familiar. This session I was playing with an altered line through Big Bend and the esses, which is why you'll see the exaggerated single late apex, whereas under most conditions it is faster through Big Bend with a tigher double apex in a low powered car. I'm also playing with my entry to the left hander a bit in this session. The car is very low power(91ft-lbs of torque) so it picks up a bit of time(losing distance) taking the tighter entry as it has no trouble staying WOT through the right hander. A more powerful car would take the deeper entry to the Left Hander and that would allow a straighter exit onto Noname and higher speed entry to The Uphill. My car has none of these burdens that come with an abundance of power. For an indication, fuel cut hits in 3rd gear around 94-95mph, so the 3rd-4th shifts are within the same 1-2mph window. Of particular note is the gaps to others through different sections of the course and listening for the downshifts in the braking zone. The car does have powerful brakes and again is very familiar, so it easy to go much deeper into Big Bend than some.

@Rallywagon Sounds like a whole lot of overkill.

Or maybe you just don't have kids...I had a much more intricate setup before I had to maintain a dozen devices. I swear, a kid can corrupt a windows install within a week of you having wiped it. (Even now that they are adults, and even after my many years of my warning them about how they might accidentally bring upon the end of the world...they STILL just click OK to any message that pops up.)

I only have a standard network with one machine serving as a fileserver, but my family still drive me nuts with the "why can't I see the media drive?" tech support requests and system maintenance. I can't even imagine trying to maintain the setup you have just for personal use.

Well, my daughter is only 7, not quite to the age where I feel she needs a computer yet. Shes got a locked down tablet and a smart TV. My wife works, albeit on the financial side, in the IT biz as well, she can't build a SAN fabric, but she knows what to and what not to click. That said, the server network and the home network have a bit of separation. You can do fun stuff on a network with DD-WRT on a WRT54 and PFsense. Getting the dual NAT playing nice took a little work, but it all is agreeable now, for the most part.

All that AND you can kill people :)

I actually would argue that. I mean, anyone can learn to shoot a gun. But I was also a combatives instructor and have had it put too the test a time or two since getting my DD-214. It really did end better for me than them.

Hmm.

Notice Regarding Scheduled Seasonal Event Updates
Starting August 27th, 2015, the following updates will be made to the scheduled Seasonal Events for "Gran Turismo 6" available exclusively for the PlayStation®3.

(1) The frequency of updates will be changed from “Every Thursday” to “Every other Thursday”.

(2) The hosted Race Event entry periods will be changed from “2 weeks” to “4 weeks”.

(3) Time Trial and Drift Trial Events:
- Ranking registration times will be changed from “2 weeks” to “4 weeks”.
- Entry periods will be changed from “4 weeks” to “8 weeks”.

Although the frequency of the Seasonal Event updates will be reducing with the above changes, we plan to have more events available at each time with increased prizes, such as more in-game credit rewards and the return of popular Gift cars..

Thank you for your understanding and we hope you will continue to enjoy Gran Turismo 6!

Does this mean they are pulling the last 2 people off GT6 or what?

Hmm.

Does this mean they are pulling the last 2 people off GT6 or what?
"popular gift cars" I hate the stupid "gift cars" The seasonal events are tedious or just straight up stupid! (700pp race cars around nurb or sierra come to mind).
Alter the paint chips give us a lot more colour shifts! Like a gold with silver cross fade or something.

Come on PD FIX the damn game before moving on to GT7! At this rate NO ONES going to buy it, PCars looks like it offers a far better experience! (not that I have actually played it yet).

Things to fix about GT6 in my opinion:
1) make the sierra TT the norm not the exception
2) Fix the AI there stupid or worse!
3) make "coffee breaks" into seasonals (I love the fuel challenges)
4) We don't need repetitive cars mazda miata and gtr's come to mind! (just to bolster your car count)
5) make full customization of cars the norm not the exception
6) If your not going to allow us to fully custom paint a car atleast bring in some sort of body wraps.

In summary thanks for making GT6 a only snail racing game. Other then that their is no point in putting in the disk!

I'm talking straight up offline experience. The sierra TT's were great, the AI in GT6 is dumb and will slam you like you're not even there. Don't get me wrong I like what GT6 was trying for, but it seems like they just polished up GT5 and gave up.
Now with the idea that they are doing away with weekly seasonal and the seasonals slowly became repetitive. I was hoping for more thought into the seasonals when GT6 came out the introduction of the coffee breaks was great use those ideals for TT make it interesting use what is thought out.

Same with the paints I liked that you got your paint and it was your's (wish you could delete colours you don't want)
I liked that the paints we're won through the seasonals. Was waiting and hoping that the colours would get more interesting but when they ran out of the DLC paints from GT5 there going back to "Prize cars" not exclusively tuned cars say by F1 engineers.

GT6 just seems to slowly be getting less and less appealing and looking more and more like PD has lost interest in developing the title.

Some cars have turbo pressure settings. For example, in the Lotus 98T, you can adjust the boost on the turbo. In other words, adjust how quickly you will violently spin. That car is such a handful, but so much fun! Wheelspin in 4th and 5th is scary.

As for tuning, you're safe for the most part if you leave the car stock. I usually just change tire pressures and gear ratios.

I haven't lapped in P Cars in a few weeks. I'm moving this weekend, but will hopefully be back in P Cars in a week or so. New DLC is out, and a new RUF for free!

What'd he say? Doesn't matter cause that quite impressive ;)
wow back in the day I could build a 386!
things change so fast and as I get older, things go faster then I can go! :boggled:

@Die_Birdy_Die, same here. If not for SNAIL, I would probably not be firing up my ps3 at all. Itwould, and will, live in my daughters room for minecraft. With the new PC upgrades coming, I'm hoping to get some snail presence on some PC racing sim, or maybe expand into space? After GT6 though, I am done with the GT series, and console gaming.

So whens official practice going to be booted up? Can't wait to get started, and lol it just opened, give sec I will be in soon guys, got to get jag, way expense
